The Photoshop Show2,026*Macro snowflake master, +Don Komarechka joins us to talk about his the successful launch of his new book "Sky Crystals" as well as letting us into the fascinating world of digital infrared photography* About taking snowflake images Don says, "Using a steady hand, an old mitten, and freshly falling snow, you can produce an image worthy of sparking that childhood wonder in even the most jaded onlookers. Some people don’t believe my images are real, and that’s when I know I’ve created something worth talking about. Of course, some people simply think I’m crazy watching me take pictures of an old mitten in a snow storm". Don has taught Nature & Landscape Photography and Macro Photography, and loves to share his passion for the visual world. “Every photo has a story – the best come from the spectacular capture of ordinary moments.” This event will be broadcast Live right here on this event and can be re-watched from our YouTube playlist here: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLd2s9jicPHQHq7dHsAqnqtB4WCJ-SXLZlThe Photoshop Show 47 - with guest Don Komarechka2013-12-18 03:00:0090

Yesterday, I was out for a walk and slipped and fell in a mud hole, my camera the Olympus em-5 and 40-150 f:2.8 lenses was pretty much covered with stinking mud.
I have used Olympus cameras since my first e-10 and always found them dependable and able to take weather condition other brands could not. The em-5 and the lenses are advertised as waterproof and I have seen them submerged in water.
Trusting my equipment, I put the muddy mess in the sink and washed the mud off, it took a bit to get all the nooks and crannys clean. I dried them  off and set the rig in the sun to dry out.
Both the camera and lens work fine, the only difficult spot was the retractable hood because it has loots of rings inside it to trap mud. I just have to soak it for a bit.
Today, I got this shot of a beautiful Cardinal with my shiny clean Olympus Em-5 mark 2 and 40-150 f:2.8 lens

Standing Alone
I have seen many Weeping willow trees and indeed some may be old, many I think reflect the rigors of living. They have been tested bent, twisted and broken by nature. The wind, freeze and thaw each leaves a memory, a broken branch, a cracked trunk and ultimately destruction.

This tree stands by itself, alone and out of the way, crow call from the upper reaches and snow lays a soft glow over it.

This tree reminds us of the importance of prevailing, enduring and most importantly surviving.

I am working on some images I did in HDR and got the usual HRD look. I am reediting with soft ware I didn't have then and the result are very much more what I wanted to capture.

Lunch Guests
The cold and blustery weather the last couple of days has drawn a lot of birds to the feeders. These are a resident pair enjoying the feeder in the snow. I was lucky to get them both at the feeder facing the same way and an eye visible on each.

Day 7 Wildlife Challenge
This is the last entry in the challenge and I appreciate everyone's comments and encouragement.
The last image I want to share with you is something I have started doing recently and that is applying textures to create and artistic interpretation.
I call this "Last Flight In" it was taken at the Aylmer Bird Sanctuary outside Aylmer Ontario. Each spring thousands of swans stop over to feed and rest before continuing their migration north. It is a grand sight when they all rise up in a loud mass of beating wings

Day 6 Wildlife Challenge
I am going to say low but this is a different kind of wildlife image, this is gone with a process called Focal Stacking. Focal Stacking is the process of taking a shot adjusting the focus and taking another shot and so on to capture the whole object at 1:1 or greater. The resulting stack of images are then processed to render a complete image. I have to tell you that because the magnification is so high and the distance to the subject so these close, the fly was dead, I didn't kill it I found it dead.
I know this is  not traditional wildlife photography but it is about as wild as it gets for me. So here is today's image a  40 shot stack of a common house fly head. (CLICK ON IMAGE)

I want to drop down into a wilderness I love to spend time "Getting Low and Moving Slow". Sitting in a field as the sun comes up and everything is covered with dew or in the garden during a gentle rain. There is a world most don't see and the fantastic things living there.

Today, I got this shot of a beautiful Cardinal with my shiny clean Olympus Em-5 mark 2 and 40-150 f:2.8 lens___

Olympus just release a firmware update and included is a Focal Stacking function.  I am still working on understanding the best settings but basically you focus on the closest point on the object you are shooting. You can set up to 999 images but I think…

I like fall for a lot of reasons but a guess I like the many photo opportunities there are. I can walk out my back door and not take 5 steps and there are enough things to shoot for a couple of hours. There is also the chance to visit places with great scenery and fall colours

We were young and bright once with our beautiful coats and fancy hair do's. People came and took pictures and said how pretty we were.
Now in the fall, the frost has come and soon we will be just memories and another forgotten image of what was.

I am sitting on my couch watching it rain. several cardinals showed up at the feeder. The smallest flew to the feeder and got some seed and flew to a branch feeding a larger brighter fledgling.
I guess it like kids, they grow move out then come home to live.
