#TravelPanoWednesday

I finally had time to get one more photo ready for you.
It is the always fascinating silhouette of Monument Valley during sunrise.

I was looking for something different of Monument Valley. Most of the time photos featuring single buttes or looking down into the valley but hardly ever someone gets the "feeling" how the landscape looks in total.

So I decided to get further away to photograph the silhouette at sunrise. I'm always most fascinated by view when getting closer to the Valley, if you had a chance to visit Monument Valley you will know what I mean.

Anyway, I photographed this panorama with my Fuji 617 on Fuji Velvia film and now scanned it with the Hasselblad X5 (Imacon) scanner.

This image looks amazing as a large print, it always sucks me right in when I look at it. Hope you like it!

I forgot... more »

#NatureMonday

Northern lights dancing above mountains in the Brooks Range, Alaska.

This is another medium format scan, original format 4.5x6cm, Fuji Provia, Hasselblad X5.
I won't be very active again this week as it looks like right now - we spend Sunday in hospital and our son got another virus, a nasty one. We still hope he gets right fast but our hope is fading after being sick almost all the time for over 8 weeks - very frustrating but I guess nothing really we can change right now.

If you interested in more of my northern light pictures please have a look at my website:

Anyway, I want to contribute this image to several photo themes again:

I 15's spy hopping near Robson Bight, British Columbia, Canada

I love photographing wildlife in its natural environment, especially orcas. While close ups are always nice and spectacular, I often rather zoom out to show some scenery with it. Here everything came together (I actually would not have dreamed of this shoot to be honest),
We came back after a long day photographing bears along the BC coast and decided to stay out for sunset, while we already photographed killer whales earlier in the afternoon we decided just to "sit" in the middle of Johnstone Strait, close to the Robson Bight Ecological Reserve off the Vancouver Island coast.
The I15's, a resident orca whale pod came into the Strait via Blackfish Sound and Cracroft Point. The sun was setting, fog was slowly building up before they decided to start playing right at the border of the Reserve. While the water was a bit choppy, which makes it difficult with a 300mm lense to stay on focus four orcas all it sudden came up for a cute spy hop. Needless to say that we were going crazy. I was not sure if I gotten the shot, well, maybe gotten but if it would be sharp I could not tell, it was getting dark, choppy water, so conditions were everything but ideal. Well...I'm more then happy now knowing that I nailed it, exposure, focus and the action.
What do you think about it? I probably will order a gallery wrap soon to see how it looks in my office.

after being sick I finally making it out of bed again. Hope I can continue now with showing you new photos.
For today I want to share this bald eagle shot with you. We normally see lots of eagles on my wildlife & scenery photo tours along the British Columbia coast. They give us plenty opportunities to photograph them from peaceful settings all the way to fishing action shots. That said - I'm thankful for every image I get. Even with lots of years of experiences it stays a challenge to get close ups with a 300mm lense which are also crispy sharp. I know I often push my luck using the 300mm but as I already have a wide portfolio with eagles I rather go for "the kill" with highest resolution and without cropping the image. Needless to say that I'm more than happy with this action shot.
Hope you like it.

Cute grizzly cub feasting along tide line

Cute grizzly bear cub feasting on mussels and crabs along the tide line along the British Columbia coast. The biggest reward was that we were able to photograph the cub with its mother for over 30 min. in a small hidden bay in Knight Inlet, without nobody around.

It seems to be a easy task to photograph dolphins, well, believe me, it is not. The first thing I tell my guests on the photo tours is NOT to get frustrated with them. Why? Well, we often find larger groups of dolphins, sometimes even large pods with 500+ animals. The difficult part is that you see them jumping "everywhere", almost all the time BUT, if you don't have your camera on the right animal you not getting the shot - it is as simple as that. And when you see them jumping in the corner of your eye one can get very frustrated not getting the shot. I found the best way to photograph jumping dolphins is by checking out the pod first, find active animals, then pick one and stay with it for a bit. I'm always happy when I can capture a jumping dolphin, especially when the shot is also crispy sharp. (which is another very difficult task!).

A magic moment with no other boats around. Humpback whale spouting in front of the British Columbia coastal mountains. It was the perfect "finish" of a busy day on my wildlife & scenery photo tour. After we photographed grizzly bears, dolphins, orcas and other wildlife we decided to stay out after the sun was gone to enjoy the tranquility of a peaceful ocean (it actually can get rough out here too). While we were "sitting" there with the engine off a humpback whale came up after a long deep dive. The powerful spout can be heard very far under these magic conditions. We didn't have any other boats around and after watching him for some time he decided to come over to check us out. One of those magic and unique moments. #whales #britishcolumbia #humpbackwhales #canada #wildlife

Now I guess you think I'm gone crazy...but this is one of my favourite bald eagle pictures. After having covered all those amazing action shots for many years I wanted to come up with something new, something different and unique. Here it is: A bald eagle sitting on a branch in the Great Bear Rainforest in heavy fog. I have this one blown up largely on a canvas wrap and enjoy it every day in my office. What I love about this picture is that it is surreal, mystic combined with beautiful colours and the softness of heavy fog.
What do you guy's and gal's think about it? Am I gone finally crazy or do you like it too?

Hello Everybody,

it has been a long, long time since I posted anything on social media. Hello Everybody,

it has been a long, long time since I posted anything on social media. Having 2 young kids, one with Downs Syndrome, getting divorced and juggling around other challenges (plenty of them) simply does not give me time anymore to be active on Twitter, G+ or FB. I want to post more in the future but I won’t be able to engage in a lot of activities. Maybe I can be more active again when my life gets a bit easier again but at this stage I’m far away from it.

Ok, this is my update for all of you who are real followers and fans of my work.

I have been working more locally over the past few years, nothing wrong with that after traveling the world for almost 30 years. There is also a reason why I moved from Germany to Northern Vancouver Island. The reason is that I love it here and it is the area I love to do photography (I guess most of you know my Killer whale / Orca portfolio).

I was working on mostly wildlife photography over the past few years while also developing a new and very unique photo tour along to the Great Bear Rainforest. It is an individual tour, a private charter, which allows my guests to experience the area and wildlife in a way no “regular tourist” could do.

Over the next few weeks, maybe even month I will show you some new work, all related to my new photo tours up here around Northern Vancouver Island.

A lot of very nice and helpful people were asking me in the past few years how they can help or support me/us in these challenging times. I finally have an answer, help me to get my new images around (you are also welcome to buy prints too!!). You may even post a link to my photo tours. I’m fairly confident that this would help me to get my “head above water” again. Thank you for your support AND enjoy my newest images, I have plenty of very exciting images to show you.___

Happy Easter to everybody.
As you can see, I'm still not able to post much at this stage. Maybe I'm able to post a new picture tomorrow for #NatureMonday .

I want to introduce you to +Jen Baptist, Jen will help me curating #NatureMonday in the future. I'm very happy to have her onboard, especially right now when I can't be as involved as I would like to be. Jen will also do the G-Page.

Please submit your best Nature photos to #NatureMonday , what we would like to see are beautiful, relaxing quality nature images to give people on G+ a good relaxing start for the new week.

I hope you all enjoying great holidays. I hope I will be back soon.

Today I want to introduce you to one of my favorite photos of Mount McKinley with alpenglow. It is a 6x12 panorama photo originally captures with a large format 5x7 Sinar camera with a pano film holder, Fuji Velvia 220 and now scanned with the high res Hasselblad (Imacon) X5 scanner.

I photographed in fall on a warm'ish morning above Wonder Lake. It was magically being here all by myself sharing the wilderness with moose, caribou, bears and wolves - it was simply amazing.

As always, please find a larger version as well as my blog write up about this image on my website, and more panorama photos here:

Sorry for not being active on G+ right now - our house is sick now for over 8 weeks, the latest extension to our "sick list" was the strep throat virus. I guess we had more antibiotics here in the house in the past weeks then red wine - and that is a scary thought! I really hope that we get the last bugs now out of the house so we can have a somewhat normal live...and I'm hopefully able to do some more work again and share with you again too.

#FlowingWaterFriday

I want to wish you all a great weekend - Thanks for checking out my photos!!

Had time to do another scan. This photo is originally photographed in the format 6x7cm with a Mamiya RZ67 (Fuji Provia, Hasselblad X5 scanner). It was featured on one of my high quality poster series back in Europe. it is up to date one of my favorite bear photograph - simply because the quality and details is unbelievable.

Right now it seems like being one of those times when I have to work 4x as much as normal to get 1/4 of income of normal - I really don't like those times, especially not when the kids getting teeth at the same time.

Because I'm not sure how much I will be able to show you next week I want to contribute this photo to more photo themes, even the ones which are coming up next week.

#ThirstyThursdayPics

A picture with many elements - fitting to some different photo themes today.

Sunset behind the silhouette of Destruction Island Lighthouse with heavy wave action in the foreground and a huge sun fireball in the background.

I photographed this on a trip down the West Coast and started here on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. I may said it a few times already but the Olympic Peninsula and the National Park is one of my favorite travel locations in the Pacific Northwest.

I was working a bit on my new free wallpapers and computer backgrounds in the last few days and "stumbled" over this image which I overlooked for some time.

I got no idea how I ever catch up with work, it is getting more and more to deal with. Sorry for not being able to be more active right now here on G+.

I at least want to contribute to my own theme today: #TravelPanoWednesday

It is a panorama photo of the Quirpon Island Lighthouse. I would guess that most of you never heard about it. It is located on the Great Northern Peninsula in Newfoundland, overlooking the Strait of Belle Isle and the Labrador Sea. it is an amazing place but can be bitter cold in the winter.

I wrote a little story about my experience when I was out here for you if someone wants to know a bit more about the experience. You also can find more of my panorama photos here:

#MyTownTuesday

Sometimes I feel a little bit home sick for the city of Freising which I was born and raised. Freising is a little city with about 48000 people, located 35Km north of Munich. it is a beautiful city and got a lot of attention through a visit from Pope Benedict XVI a few years back.

The Pope was appointed Archbishop of Munich and Freising in 1977.

Freising is not far away from the Munich Airport, in fact the airport is much closer to Freising then it is to Munich. if you make it to there make sure you have at least one day to check out Freising, there is lots to see. No wonder, the history goes back to 996 when Freising was given the right to be a city.

I want to contribute this photo today to #MyTownTuesday by +Melanie Kintz and +Eric Leslie.

I wish you all a great weekend and hope everybody is well. We are still waiting for spring here and for the rain to stop, hopefully this will happen soon, it has been a long and very wet winter here.

Another free high resolution computer background (wallpaper).

A dramatic sunsets with beautiful clouds and sun rays over the pacific Ocean, Cormorant Island and Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada.

When we are out photographing whales we often come home fairly late but we often see incredible sunsets on the way home. I must say that the sunsets I have seen here on northern Vancouver Island have blown me away many times. NO, there are no filters used on this shot, not even a neutral grad was needed, it was just a "perfect" sunset after a long day out on the water.

I just started a new page on my website with free high resolution pictures which you can use (private use only) as a computer background wallpaper...I think I got a good start so far...much more to come:

My contribution for #TravelPanoWednesday come from New Zealand today.

It is a panorama of a swing bridge over the Hollyford River which cuts through pure nature and a very beautiful rainforest in Fiordland National Park, New Zealand.

I captured this photo while it was raining, my preferred time to photograph rivers and rainforest because the colors are most of the time totally different and more beautiful then they are when it is overcast or sunny.

I photographed this picture with my Fuji 617 on Fuji Velvia film, then scanned it with the Hasselblad X5 (Imacon) high res scanner.

So here we go, a Canadian classic shot in large format for you to start the week.

Beside #NatureMonday I also want to contribute this photograph to #MountainMonday which is curated by +Michael Russell and I think the reflctions also fit well for #MirrorMonday by +Gemma Costa +Elizabeth Edwards +Jonny Scholes. We are slowly getting sick of being sick, getting a bit better but still ways from being well - hope to be able to catch up next week with you.

My submission today to #FlowingWaterFriday by +Kate Church and myself is the bottom part of a small waterfall, another noname waterfall from the Great Baer Rainforest along the British Columbia coast.

The other theme I want to contribute that picture to is #FourSeasonsFriday by +Karin Nelson and +Stephonie Ogden that waterfall will be only there in spring when we have lots of rain.

I wish you all a great weekend - sorry I can't be more active right now.

Still having a sick house - not sure when we return to normal. I must say this is sure a challenge with two sick kids at the same time, it also does not help when parents sick too.

So I will contribute a picture today which fits to some more themes.
