|Georges Pauly||14,521||Thomas HawkShared publicly - 30 Aug 2013 2500 Kick Ass Google+ Photographers (part 2 of 5)This is the fifth time I've shared my photographer's circle on Google+. I'm going to share it in 5 posts. Yesterday I shared last name A-Da. This one , part 2 of 5, today, represents Da-Ho. I'll share the remaining three next week. I originally shared my photographers circle at 500, 1,000, 1,500 and 2,000 photographers. I'll probably share it again eventually when it gets to 3,000.A few notes about this circle. The criteria that I look for (and don't always get right) in this circle is that the photographer produce interesting and engaging photography. I also look for people who are active in the community, post mostly their own work, and post regularly. I'm looking more for people who post their own work and less of the noise stuff (gifs, links, non-photography, promotions, etc.). I also like people who are positive, friendly, nice, helpful, etc. and dislike people who are mean, snarky, jerks, disrespectful, etc.I have a pretty well known bias against signatures and watermarks. You will see very few photographers in my circles who use them. I really hate the watermark debate and would rather not have it with folks. I just don't like them -- it's my circle that I have to look at. There are likely a few folks in here who use them who are friends of mine, but for the most part, this is a pretty watermark free circle. It's totally cool if you love your watermark, it's just not something I really want to look at. Please don't hate me for my aesthetic preference. Finally, the photography community on Google+ is probably the best one on the internet today. There is no way that I can possibly include all of the fine photographers worth following on G+. There are wayyyyy too many. These are just 2,500 that I personally have noticed. I'm sure I left out some really amazing ones -- like you if you are not in this circle :) I'll probably also totally kick myself when I realize that I accidentally left out a really obvious good one who may even be a friend of mine -- again, maybe even like you. :)Stay tuned for parts 3, 4 and 5 and thanks again to all of the great photographers on G+ who make this place such a delight to hang out.Part 1-5: http://goo.gl/17ujpn*Note, Google Circles are terribly wonky. It wouldn't let me add some photographers in my circle into these circles because of domain errors. If this affected you, sorry about that.||2013-09-01 19:56:06||482||2||0||4||CC G+|

This circle could be a great place (as if G+ isn't great enough already) for us to support one another.Been a while, but I think there is evan a #photobiz hashtag you can use to help you find answers to your photo-business related questions. If you wish to be added to the circle, please be sure to add your name to the original post.||2012-06-19 11:38:11||55||12||2||4||CC G+|

I mean, you've seen circles for "Most interactive photographers", The Kick Ass Photographers", "The Inspirational Photographers", "The best Nature and Wildlife Photographers", and the list goes on.This post contains a list and a circle. The circle contains the 500 most followed photographers with less than 60'000 followers. The list is a list of photographers that have more than 60'000 followers. Most people on the list have over 1 million followers because they are on the G+ list of suggested users (commonly referred to as the SUL). But who are the most followed ? Here is an updated version of a circle I shared a few months back. I have tried to find all of the top photographers and add them to this circle. Obviously the last 50 places probably change daily so this is the list as I checked it before sharing. The number of followers needed to be on the list has changed a lot over the last 4 months. Back in February you needed 13'117 followers, in mid-June that number is around 17'200. Why is this circle of interest ? Well, because it wasn't chosen by me or any other individual. It was chosen by the G+ community. Some of the people in the circle are great photographers, some are great at being interactive, some are just plain good at marketing themselves, and many have a combination of the above. But, in the end, the G+ community has chosen them as the top 550 photographers to follow.• Why is xxxx not on the list ? Photographers that haven't been active on G+ for more than 6 weeks weren't included. Several photographers that only post sporadically and generally less than one post a month aren't included• If you find someone on the list that you don't really think is a photographer, send me an email and / or a private post and I'll look into removing them or leave a comment below.• If you know of someone that I missed that has more than 17'200 followers, let me know and I'll add them to the list for next time.• You could call this the User's Choice Award circle because people on G+ have chosen to follow the people in this list and circle. Why share this circle ? Photographers were among the first people to embrace G+. Over the last few months I have seen photographers add significant numbers of followers and fall in over all standings. Wordy people and celebrities are overtaking photographers. +Trey Ratcliff +Thomas Hawk and +Lisa Bettany are the only photographer||2012-06-14 13:42:29||500||244||215||241||CC G+|
|Thomas Hawk||2,461,011||2,000 Kick Ass Photographers on Google+Part 1 of 4 (A-Ev)This is the fourth time since joining G+ almost a year ago that I'm sharing my photographers circle. I shared it with 500 photographers, 1,000 photographers, 1,500 photographers and now 2,000 photographers. I have to break my circle up into four 500 photographer circles as that is the G+ limit. Each day this week (Mon.- Thurs.) I'll share a different circle. Today is the first circle and includes photographers with the last name's A-Ev (although +Marc Evans you are in tomorrow's circle). A few notes about these circles. I always get hated on when I share them by people. Inevitably if I include 2,000 people, I will leave 50,000 people out. This is not intentional or personal. This circle is not "the best" photographers on G+ or in the world. It doesn't mean if you are not in my circle that you are not a "quality" photographer. This list is simply photographers that I've stumbled across for whatever reason over the past year and have chosen to follow their work. In some cases I've gotten to know the photographers in this circle personally -- through photowalks and trips, hangouts, in real life, etc. Many of these people are or have become my friends. Most of the photographers in my circle though I don't even know. They are just people whose work I admire and want to consume -- I hope many are future friends. :)I use some objective criteria with this circle but I use a lot of subjective criteria too. This is, afterall, my own personal circle that I look at and +1 from every single day. My aesthetic taste and personal preferences may be very, very different than yours. This is ok. Art is subjective. That said, here a breakdown of my own preferences and biases that influence who I add into my circle.1. I like people who are active on G+. If you haven't posted one of your photos in the last month you probably are not in this circle. I use a script to uncircle inactive people regularly.2. I like photographers who mostly post their own photographs. I dislike clutter and "dumb stuff" in my photographers circle. Excessive reshares, circle shares, memes, gifs, youtube videos, posts not about photography, web links, etc. make me uncircle or move people to a different circle. I also like photographers who regulate how much of their photography they post to their stream. I don't want to see 50 shots in a row of someone's vacation. I think about 5 photos max a day feels about right to me.3. *Controversial* I dislike signatures and watermarks. You will find photographers in my circle that use them. It's just a bias, not a hard and fast rule. I mostly want this stream to be as watermark/signature free as possible. I totally understand and respect your reasons and decision for using watermarks/signatures. I hope you equally respect my decision to not want to consume photos mared up with them. Please don't turn this into a discussion about watermarks/sigs, I've spent the last 10 years thinking heavily about this issue. It's just a personal preference and bias.4. I like people who are active, positive, helpful, enthusiastic G+ community members. I dislike people who are rude, mean, complainers, trolls, harrasers, etc. If you say mean things to people, about people, about their art or their work I don't want to follow you. I'm fine with debate and disagreement. It should just be done respectfully -- there's a huge difference between respectful disagreement and rude behavior. Not only will you not be in this circle if you are rude, I'll probably||2012-06-04 16:53:26||500||235||147||424||CC G+|

I've been refining this for the last month, adding photographers who have a good eye and aesthetic that I think are good. I like photography that takes you places and allows you to see people and things from all parts of the world from perspectives you've never seen before. I think many of the photographers in this circle do that very well. These are all very active G+ users and should provide your stream with some really nice content. If you are new to G+ you can start growing your network and enhancing your stream with with some of googles greatest. Please share.#photography #photographers #sharedcircles #artists||2012-04-13 00:13:54||485||38||30||34||CC G+|

|Sir John Hardy||17,427||There have been a few circles shared about lately. None, however, is as good as this one. Each person in this circle has been crash tested in a laboratory, simmered in a social incubator and boiled in the crucible of interaction. All have come up with a pH reading of 4 or higher.||2012-03-11 14:36:33||375||38||7||20||CC G+|

If you want to be added, please leave a comment here and share this circle. But most importantly, to make it happen, please use the hashtag #bizphoto when you begin a discussion or have a question. Many of the folks in this circle are seasoned pros and know a thing or two about the business of this passion we share, many are newbies who are eager to learn. It's a match made in heaven!||2012-02-17 21:48:27||219||9||7||12||CC G+|

|Mike Runyon||12,066||I am sharing this circle of Nikon D-7000 users in hopes that we can share information related to our particular model, which could potentially be of use to us all. At present it's not that large of circle and I know there are far more photographers out there using this model, so please feel free to post a comment and re-share so it can come closer to accounting for all of us that shoot with a Nikon D-7000.If you shoot with a D-7000 and comment I will include you in the next re-post of this circle. Thanks.||2012-01-28 16:41:43||231||17||2||4||CC G+|

Once when it got to 500 and then again when it got to 1,000. Today my circle hit 1,500 so I'm sharing them again.I have to break them up into 500 person circles because this is the limit on Google+. Also Google limits the number of people you can add to circles per day so I'm going to publish my kick ass photographers circle over 3 days. Today I'm publishing A-G. Tomorrow I'll publish G-O. Friday I'll publish P-Z. By last name.In addition to the kick ass photographers in these circles I've also added three other accounts. Our new photography hangout show which will be on live tonight at 8PM PST +Photo Talk Plus as well as our show's sponsors +Drobo and +SmugMug as a way of saying thanks to them.A few notes about these circles. not to be long-winded, but…Every time I've shared my circles I've gotten haters from it. People who are upset that they are not in them. I absolutely detest that. It makes me not even want to share them because of that. These circles are not meant to be the definitive list of what photographers you should be following on Google+. These circles are simply who I have chosen to follow for photography on Google+ for my own personal consumption. I want to share them because I think YOU may also benefit from having these rich, talented, kick ass photographers in your streams. This is the circle that I browse every single day looking for great stuff to +1 and comment on Google+ and as such it reflects my own personal biases. For example. I hate looking at watermarks. This is a personal preference thing. If you use them, more power to you. It's absolutely your right. But as a consumer of photography I find them ugly and distracting and so I tend not to follow people who use them. This is not a big deal. This is not a personal attack against you if you watermark. This isn't even a universal rule of mine. I do have a few friends who use them that I still follow. But by and large, what you get with my circles is a watermark/signature free circle. I also prefer people who are active on Google+ both in terms of posting and in terms of contributing to the community. If the last photo you posted was in November, I probably won't have you in this list.If you were in my photographers circle before but removed, it could be for a lot of these sorts of reasons. Watermarks/sigs, not posting enough, posting too much non photography stuff that I'm not interested in, or all kinds of other things. Who knows. But it's most definitely not personal. (Unless I'm blocking you and then maybe it is personal). Also if you are not in these circles it may simply be because we don't know each other yet. In time perhaps we will become great friends (hopefully). Or you may not be in these circles just||2012-01-18 23:20:26||500||193||111||261||CC G+|
