The Enigma that is Suarez

There is no doubt that Suarez is a very controversial person but up until yesterday, myself and most fans have made excuses for him

When he handled the ball on the goal-line against Ghana at the 2010 World Cup, my reaction was that anybody with a competitive spirit would have done the same. In fact if i was a coach i might have encouraged my players to do the same in the same set of circumstances

When he bit Ottman Bakkal, the defense was that he was provoked during a melee and even though that went a bit too far, people do crazy things when provoked

When he was said to racially abuse Evra, i defended him by saying that he was misconstrued. He used the word "negrito" which Evra mistook for Negro

When he refused to shake Evra's hand, i defended him by saying that he probably was still hurting after a hate... more »

If this is true it would be great news. Changing 3 defenders and possibly a goalkeeper in the off season is not a good recipe for success in the following season as too many players would be making lots of adjustments and that could lead to a slow start to next season, something we can ill afford again

Great question Should he come back?, place your comments below

Mine is as follows

Most people want this deal to happen, and it is not hard to see why. He will immediately add experience, class and a cool head. The major obstacle however is not his transfer price or wages, the major problem is tactical.

Brendan Rodgers typically plays a 3 man midfield. A defensive midfielder that breaks up play and servers as a destroyer, a central midfielder that acts as the metronome of the side. He controls the tempo of the game, orchestrates play and generally tends to direct the game. The 3 midfielder is the attacking one. He links the midfield with the attack, and makes penetrating runs into the box. Alonso is a perfect fit for the central midfield role despite his age. Herein however lies the problem. Steven Gerrard already occupies that role after adjusting his play to suit... more »

I have been one of the staunchest supporters of Brendan Rodgers and rightly so because we are beginning to show signs of having an identity and the team seems to be coming together, but on Saturday against Southampton, he made a huge tactical error. He essentially played a 4-2-4 formation away from home against a side that defeated Man city and is fighting for their lives.

What infuriates me most is that he should have seen this coming.Just last week against Tottenham, we lost the midfield battle. It was until Joe Allen was brought in for Coutinho before calm was restored to the midfield and we won. I know it is attractive to play Suarez-Sturridge-Downing-Coutinho together and i also know that he wants to play Suarez in a free role behind Sturridge. The problem with that is that it makes us lose our shape and we lose the midfield especially against sides like Southampton that are very good at... more »

The problem with the Sahin transfer was that of positioning, In a 3 man midfield, Sahin was not tough enough to play in a defensive midfield role, he was never going to displace Gerrard in the 2nd midfield role, hence the decision of Rodgers to try him out as an attacking midfielder. Unfortunately, Sahin did not want to be a part of that experiment which led to his departure.

I was looking at the remaining fixtures that the teams chasing European spots have and i noticed that Tottenham still have to play Man City,Chelsea,Everton and Stoke away, immediately i felt pangs of hope, but i quickly shot them down, this article is right we are not ready for the Champions league.

For us to get into the Champions league we would need to win at least 8 of our remaining 9 games and that's a very big ask. The good news is that we are definitely moving in the right direction. The team and style of play is shaping up very nicely, and we are very close to having a first 11 that can match Tottenham and Arsenal in the pursuit of Champions League places next season(assuming neither of them buys Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo).

The board will need to back Rodgers in the next transfer market to cement the potential of this team. We need at least 4 quality players(2... more »

Originally, i had decided not to say anything about Liverpool's season until after it is officially over, but this article will push me to.
I will categorise current Liverpool players into 3 broad categories.

1. Players who are genuinely world class or have shown that they have the potential to be: In this category i will place the following players; Gerrard, Surez, Sturridge, Coutinho,Lucas,Johnson, Sterling(Debatable but lets wait and see),Kelly(May need to be shifted to central defence to achieve his true potential),

2. Players who are either squad players, or will be squad players at best: Jones,Henderson,Shelvey,Carragher,Coates,Wisdom,Enrique,Borini,Assaidi,Suso

3. Players who are either meant to be World Class and are not or are generally overrated: Reina,Agger,Skrtel,Allen

Carson might have come under a lot of criticisms for his speech, but i see nothing wrong in the spirit in which he said it. He was thoughtful and respectful and his intention was not to undermine the president.
What he is advocating also makes sense but there is so much debt right now that a flat rate tax will not help

What do you think of the flat rate tax?

What Coutinho needs to do to  realise his potential

Coutinho's transfer has finally been completed and there is a lot of excitement about this signing given his obvious talent. There is a word of caution though, Brazilians especially the attacking ones don't tend to succeed in the premiership due to cultural changes, language barriers, the physical style of play, media pressure and lack of effort. So how can Liverpool and Coutinho himself buck the trend. There are 3 key areas that must be attended to before Coutinho can realise his potential

1. Physicality: The EPL is a physical league and even though the likes of Silva and Mata have thrived in spite of it, Coutinho would need to add some bulk up especially if he is going to be playing in the center of midfield eventually. He had already started that process in Inter and i am sure he will harden up. He also has... more »

It seems like Liverpool scouts now work for Southampton. Once a player is linked strongly with Liverpool, Southampton bids more and steals a march on us. This will make it the 3rd time(after Gaston Ramirez and Forren) because i don't see Liverpool paying more than £8 million pounds for him. Our only hope is if Coutinho says no to Southampton and insists on Liverpool which is unlikely given the statements he made a few days ago. I really want us to get him, so lets hope a miracle happens before the end of the transfer season and as for Southampton, i hope they get relegated.

Yesterday, Phil Mickelson suggested that due to high and growing taxation, he might consider leaving California, maybe even consider moving to Canada (who does that?)  So, like Gerard Depardieu, who is now a Russian citizen due to 75% taxation in France, Mickelson is being ridiculed, primarily in Fortune magazine guest writers.

My take, is that if celebrities are coming out publicly regarding over-taxation, this signals a pretty interesting shift that might grow into wave of America's tax base leaving, either for Texas, or *gasp* Canada.

Is America going to respond by articles like this, calling Phil a "whiner", and "lucky" to have what he has earned, or will the nation figure out that for every Phil Mickelson thinking of leaving the country, there might be hundreds or thousands already making similar plans?

I am very excited about this transfer. I have followed Coutinho for a few years now and i can say that he is a very talented footballer, definitely more talented than Thomas Ince. Skillful, fast and with a very good technique he can be a very good signing for LFC. The drawbacks however are that he is lightweight and a little inconsistent. If he can overcome these 2 weaknesses and settle down quickly, he would definitely be a massive hit.

I haven't bothered to mention the whole sad Aaron Swartz saga, because it's been covered elsewhere.

But having the involved US attorney then basically lie about it all in a very public statement is something that I find particularly offensive. Compare these two statements - one from July 2011, one from yesterday, and tell me Carmen Ortiz isn't lying..

Yesterday (as reported by the Wall Street Journal and elsewhere):

"At no time did this office ever seek – or ever tell Mr. Swartz’s attorneys that it intended to seek – maximum penalties under the law."

And July 2011 (as posted by justice.gov itself):

Maybe that official and very public PR thing wasn't"te... more »

What's Wrong With Facebook Search
The real problem with Facebook Graph Search has to do with the implicit assumptions Facebook is making about what must happen in order for the search to work and results to be relevant.
Assumptions:
1. The place, product, brand, doctor, service, or whatever it is you hope to find, exists as a Facebook business or brand page.
2. That page must be promoted or somehow discovered by people in your network.
3. Your friends have to have truthfully "liked" that business/brand page on Facebook.
4. You trust your friends' opinions and recommendations.

Number 4 sums up the problem i have with Facebook Graph Search. I don't trust my friend's recommendations. I prefer to go to Google, do my research and make an informed decision.

I support most of the proposals brought forward by Obama(especially on  universal background checks), but i fear it won't do much to stop homicides if it passes through Congress(which is unlikely). I feel much more effort should be geared towards ensuring that those that are mentally ill get the proper care in time to ensure that they do not kill themselves or go on a killing spree

I am always surprised when people denounce the use of torture and yet they are expecting results. You don't just expect to ask an ideological terrorist to tell you where Osama is or to give you information and he will start blabbing. He has to be pushed to the limits he can divulge anything.
I don't like torture, but i am pragmatic enough to realise that in most cases it is unavoidable

Very sad story, a classical case of legal overreach. Not excusing bad behaviour, but common sense should prevail

A cleaning service worker at a Florida airport found an iPad – with $13,000 stuffed in its case – and turned it in. He then gave away the small reward he got from the owner to two people in need.

+Eman Zaman +Ryan Caddell I think Google Communities could be the best thing that has happened to LFC fans on Google+. Brace yourselves for more interesting conversations. We should start thinking of bringing back Hangouts

Apple needed to make this move. They are feeling pressure to be more innovative especially given that they are only one company going up against a legion of Android licensees.
The question is will they be willing to take a leap of faith on some of these projects like Google did?

A Look-back at the 2012 Political Campaign

I love following political campaigns. It's always very interesting to watch the different campaigns try to outwit each other in terms of message, ads, ground game, turnout and many other parameters. In short it is like a game of chess. Whoever has a better strategy and whoever executes better will win an election. This campaign is about to come to an end and in 48 hours, we will know who the winner will be. I will be looking who has run a better campaign and how they stumbled, what was each campaigns strength and what did they do wrong(IMHO) and then tomorrow i will look at the swing states and try to predict a winner. In looking at these 2 campaigns, it is important to note that i am not looking at the morals of each campaign, but how effective their different strategies where given the nature of the candidates.
