Anthony Cymerys is a barber. He is 82 years old. Every Wednesday he brings his chair, his clippers and car battery to power the clippers to a local park in Hartford.
He then gives haircuts to the homeless. He doesn't charge them a dime.
All they have to do is give him a hug.

How Not To Be A Dick To A Little Person
From From: http://m.xojane.com/issues/how-not-to-be-a-dick-to-a-little-person
1. Do Not Refer To Little People As “Midgets.”
There is a lot of confusion around this word, so let me break it down for you. There is nothing wrong with the actual word, midget; it’s just a word to describe something that is very small, for example, Midget Carrots, Midget Car Racing, my ex-boyfriend is an emotional midget. The word midget becomes offensive when it’s used to objectify a person of short stature, as in Midget Tossing, Midget Porn, Midget Rentals, where you can literally rent little people for parties and events.
Some little people don’t mind being called midget, but I do. I’ve never heard the word ‘midget’ used in a positive manner; it always seems attached to some form of hostility. When was the last time you heard s... more »

Dear Google,
Honesty, I really do know how to control my own stream.
I know what I want to see and not see.
I know how to manage my circles.
I'm not a child and YOU need to stop acting like Facebook!
Seriously....knock it off.
Behave yourself, stop fixing things that ain't broke and put everyone back in my stream.
YOU'RE NOT THE BOSS OF MY STREAM. I AM!

If roses grow in heaven, Lord, pick a bunch for me; place them in my mothers arms and tell her they're from me; Tell her that I love her, and when she turns to smile, place a kiss upon her cheek and hold her for awhile; because remembering her is easy; I do it everyday. There's an ache within my heart that will never go......... away. In memory of my Mother...

Oh shit!
This scaredy-cat was forced to run for cover when a herd of brave buffalo decided to strike back. The lion found itself outnumbered by its plucky prey and is pictured sprinting away from the African buffalo in the Kruger National Park.

This African craftsman is so talented at recycling old tires into shoes that he will even measure your feet and make a pair that fits your feet exactly, to the millimeter.
When you have nothing you have to be creative.

"When they write the history of how cancer was conquered, the Pan-Mass Challenge will be in chapter one." — Edward J. Benz Jr., MD, president of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Dear Friends,
This August I'll be riding in my 4th Pan-Mass Challenge, alongside my wife Janet, her sister Carol, and 5,500 other cyclists. Over 2 days we'll ride from Wellesley to Provincetown, raising money for life-saving care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
I've been sharing my story on Google+ and the response has been amazing. Never before have I had such support from the world of social media. It speaks very highly of the caring and generous spirit of the many people I've met in my short time here.
I hope you will follow along on my training and fundraising journey this summer, as I work to pu... more »

Sometimes all it takes is someone listening.
8-years ago, CHP officer Kevin Briggs talked this young man out of jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge.
That young man's name is Kevin Berthia.
Today he is 30 years old and married with 2 children.
This week he presented officer Briggs with an award on behalf of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
The story of how officer Briggs talked Kevin down is remarkable.
As you can see in the picture, Kevin is literally one step away from jumping to his death. But for more than hour, the officer listened to Kevin pour his heart out about his troubles and told him, “I know you think things are bad, but they can get better.”
Kevin says, “Officer Briggs never made me feel guilty for the situation I was in. He made feel like, I understand why you are here, but there ar... more »

And here's the direction yesterday's blog post took, for those who are #wondering Apollo's mom Olympia has guarded him rather jealously, which means most of my really good shots are of his #bigbrother Bomassa. So lately, when I go out to the #NCZoo I have been trying to follow Apollo a little more closely.

I cried (happy tears) when I read this.
Earlier this year a military family fought to get Mina, a dog that served nine tours in Afghanistan, the proper soldier’s burial she deserved. On Sunday he was laid to rest with a flag line and taps. Instead of the traditional 21-gun salute, a chorus of trained dogs howled on command to honor his service.

Jada Pinkett-Smith on "The War on Men Through The Degradation of Woman"
Speaking against human trafficking
"How is man to recognize his full self, his full power through the eye’s of an incomplete woman? The woman who has been stripped of Goddess recognition and diminished to a big ass and full breast for physical comfort only. The woman who has been silenced so she may forget her spiritual essence because her words stir too much thought outside of the pleasure space. The woman who has been diminished to covering all that rots inside of her with weaves and red bottom shoes.
I am sure the men, who restructured our societies from cultures that honored woman, had no idea of the outcome. They had no idea that eventually, even men would render themselves empty and longing for meaning, depth and connection.
There is a deep sadness when I wi... more »

· Mother's Day ·
I'm spending the weekend scribbling for Mother's Day (May 12th - but you wouldn't forget it, right?) - scribbles & haikus! This one straight out of the sketchpad. Mixing in some watercolour with the ArtLines :)
Want to see your Mother's Day haiku/poem in a scribble? Post it in the replies. No guidelines: if it works in my head, I'll scribble it:)

Flashmob of Love for Girl With Cancer Bestows Princess Status
An 8-year-old girl with brain cancer found herself surrounded by hundreds of people yesterday lining the streets and chanting her name -- and it's all thanks to a man who lost his daughter to the disease.
Tom Mitchell became Tara Sankner's Prince Charming for a day, coming to her house in a horse-drawn white carriage, with plexiglass slippers for her feet. She embraced the role and waved to her subjects along police-lined streets in Chantilly, Virginia.

Hat's off to the Iranian men participating in the protest.
H/T to +Joe Bolin for the share.
In late April, an Iranian court forced a male convict to wear traditional Kurdish women’s clothes in public, perceiving it as a humiliating, degrading punishment. In a remarkable and unusual sort of civil disobedience, Kurdish men are protesting the misogynistic, gender-shaming decision by dressing as Kurdish women and posting the photos on social media
