http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-21882845 I wrote what I thought was fairly uncontroversial and cheery piece about the way kids are using Raspberry Pi this week.
The first comment made me laugh: "What a good tech story. I wonder how long it'll be before someone feels the need to criticise it."
But quite soon there were indeed people piling in to knock it - whether it was criticising primary school kids for wanting to use "bloatware" like Skype, or mocking the whole idea of Raspberry Pi.
Overall the tone of the comments is much more reasonable than is usual on my posts - but there does seem to be a section of the tech community that can get cross about just about anything.

I'm trying to do a Google Hangout using a Chromebook Pixel - but my office network doesn't seem to like it. Keep getting errors - micropohone not working when I know it is switched on, connection problems when tests show I'm on a fast network.- I'm wondering whether it's something to do with the settings on the Chromebook or with our work network, but after half an hour with an in-house support guy, we've failed to crack it. Any ideas?

Did you play Elite, the classic 3D space trading game - on the BBC Micro in the 1980s? One of its co-creators David Braben is trying to bring out a new version using the crowdfunding site Kickstarter.(http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1461411552/elite-dangerous?ref=live) Within hours of the project going live, he's raised £170,000 towards his £1.25m target - but after the initial excitement has died down is there a big enough audience for this game? I'll be watching with interest

Had a great trip this week to the Isle of Skye, in search of Britain's most remote broadband user. Through diving rain, and travelling across a loch, we eventually found Iain Wilson on the Knoydart peninsular - no roads, no mains power, but a speedy broadband connection via the Tegola community scheme beamed over from Skye. We used a Freedom of Information request to find out how much the UK government had spent on Facebook adverts for its GREAT campaign. The answer was nearly £100,000 - a drop in the ocean compared with other spending on the campaign. But was it value for money?

A Chirp Experiment - can your iPhone hear this?
I've been playing around with a clever new iPhone app called Chirp that uses sound to transfer data between phones. This video is a bit of an experiment to see if the audio signal transmitted by the app still works over YouTube - if you have an iPhone and download the app you can test it for me. (NB - the computer scientists from UCL who are behind the app tell me an Android version is coming "soon")

Raspberry Pi - 4,000 A Day, Camera Coming
The Raspberry Pi project is taking off at a phenomenal rate. In May last year David Braben and Eben Upton from Cambridge came to see me at the BBC and tell me of their plan to build a tiny computer the size of a USB stick to encourage children's interest in coding. The YouTube video I made that day has had more than 800,000 views. By February this year they were ready to release the device - which had grown a little but was still only the size of a credit card, though they still expected demand to be in the tens of thousands. The day they announced pre-orders, the website crashed - and ever since they have been ramping up production through two suppliers RS and Farnell.
More impressively, a vibrant community has grown up around the project - this weekend in Cambridge saw the latest Raspberry Jam event where people come together to ... more »

A week ago I set up a Facebook page for an imaginary business called VirtualBagel as part of a BBC investigation into Facebook adverts. I did not promote it anywhere - but I bought adverts to let Facebook users around the world know about it. Amazingly, 3,000 people decided they "liked" a page with no real content about a non-existent business. But were my new customers really worth anything?
