Normally I wouldn't post a picture of myself but think of it as my way of saying "Hi!! I'm still alive and shooting. And a belated happy 2013 to everyone!" Went snow shoeing a few weeks ago with my friends +Justin Reznick +Danny Seidman in search of snow. Justin was kind enough to snap this shot of me. Now he can add outdoor portraits to his stellar photography resume :) Thanks +Justin Reznick !!
How is everyone? One of my n.y. resolutions is to get back in the social media groove so you may be seeing more of me soon. Hope you're all well and have the happiest of Monday's :)

"The Perfect Storm" - Went up to Teide National Park in search for some lenticular clouds that have been forming around the mountains the last few days in conjunction with a large storm that have swept over the Canary Islands recently. My photo companion +Raico Rosenberg managed to get a truly epic shot on Sunday (highly recommend to check it out on his profile). Luck wasn't with me but i was truly rewarded with a stunning lightning storm on the way down from Mount Teide. This is a single exposure, shot right in between two cloudbanks at roughly 2000m altitude. #lightning #lightningphotography #severeweather #storm #photoextract #tenerife

an Taobh Tuath, Outer Hebrides, Scotland
Here is the first of a few photos from last June's awesome trip to Scotland with +Ian Plant. We were out exploring, and when I saw these awesome meanders in the wetlands, it was love at first sight. Scotland was pretty amazing, to say the least. It seems I came away with a half-dozen or so photos I am happy with, which I think was quite productive for just a nine day trip.

Social Media for Photographers
When it comes to being a photographer, there is no shortage of online networks waiting for you to share your images, interact with others and potentially grow your business. From Google+ to Facebook, Twitter to Pinterest, 500px to Flickr, you have more options at your disposal now then ever before. But what really is Social Media? Why is it so important? Which networks are best for your needs? And most importantly, what are some of the ways that you can maximize your time on each of the major networks?
Over the next few weeks, I will be releasing a series of posts titled “Social Media for Photographers”. While I will be giving a broad over view of social media here today, each subsequent blog post will cover a specific social network (Google+, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter and Stipple), allowing you to have a more in depth look at the positive and ... more »

Gold Under The Rainbow
This shot is from my most recent trip to Death Valley in January, taken at Ibex Dunes during a thunderstorm right at sunset. That entire night was crazy as I was running around the dunes trying to get different compositions of this intermittent rainbow (and I'll have more photos of it to come as I process them).

"Altar of the Sun Gods" - http://www.createwithlightphotography.com
I am dedicating this image to my good friend +dene' miles, in thanks for her amazing support and accompanying me on my photographic journey of discovery (in spirit)...you rock girlfriend :-)
This is an 167 second exposure of a small spit of land in the Strait of Georgia in West Vancouver, British Columbia.
I used a 10 stop ND filter, plus a 3 stop hard grad ND filter to get the effect I was after.
Check out the larger version of this image on my website: http://is.gd/pQj84h
It was raining really hard that day and I learned the art of balancing an umbrella on my tripod and under my chin, whilst changing filters, etc. I got wet, but the camera stayed dry, which is the right result :-) This is probably my favorite image from 2012 so far...I'm loving the photographic... more »

After a week of chasing Aurora with Antony Spencer and David Clapp, the final night culminated in an unforgettable display. Photographing a corona was tops on my list, and this image is exactly what I had hoped to create.
If you are interested in chasing Aurora for 2013, Antony Spencer leads tours in Scandinavia every month, from September through March. Most spots are already filled so if you are interested contact him ASAP.

Hey everyone. Sorry i've been absent lately. Just tough to keep up with life, photo adventures and all this social networking biz :) This was one of my favorite Seattle sunrises from last year. It was a really cold and beautiful morning in December. Hope you're all well. Look forward to catching up =)

A recent lightning storm directly out in front of the Quindalup Boat Ramp/Jetty in Dunsborough, Western Australia. It was great to get away from Perth and head Down South.

Yes, i'm posting two images in one day but please don't comment on both. I just wanted to make sure there was something for everyone. If you like trees, check out my image below. If you like water and mood, this one's for you. I probably won't post anything again for a few weeks it's feast or famine on this end :) Took this one at Pacific City on the Oregon coast a few weeks ago. And the one below is from Zion back in November. Happy Tuesday everyone! Still catching up so if I haven't paid you a vist I will soon :)

Taken at Zion np this past fall. Got up early for a sunrise but awoke to fog instead. We knew there was fresh snow at the top of the park so quickly drove up there. Came across some snow covered whimsical trees that make the perfect photo subjects. Hopefully this image portrays a little bit of the magic we experienced that morning.

She
I wanted to see if it was possible to take a pure street shot and change it into something different, this was shot at distance, I noticed her head dress and I loved the folds of the cloth around her face, it framed her so well.
So some post editing later and this is the end result. if you wish I shall post up a before and after when I get back home.

Random Leaf
I took this image on my first visit to the Pacific North West. Living in the deserts of the Southwest where we don't see green like this, I was amazed how green it was. Since that trip I have been completely fascinated with the area. Another reason why I enjoy this image, is because, this was the first time I met, and now one of my good friends +Justin Reznick. We were shooting side by side freezing our toes off shooting this stream. Good times!
Also.........big thanks +Kevin McNeal for helping me out and opening my eyes to look for better compositions. I owe a lot of my progress in photography to him Thanks Kevin!

Taking pictures of this fast-paced ballet recital was much more challenging this year with more dancers and more arrangements. Luckily I got a few shots I really like.

Here's an image I took at Zion on the Narrow hike. It's one of the few Narrows images I got before my tripod leg fell off :( My friend, +Bill Ratcliffe who joined me on the hike, kindly said I could borrow his tripod if I saw a photo op. I decided this time around I would just soak in the amazing canyon views and shoot like crazy on my next Narrows adventure. This image is for +Randy Jay Braun & +Donna Luker who have been waiting patiently for some Zion love. This is not one of my favorites but one of the few I got from the river. What's everyone doing to bring in 2012??? Hope you all have a safe and Happy New Year!!! :)

Foggy mist, misty fog
Marvellous manifestation
Of magnificent nature !

Strong enough to blind
Quite weak to stand
The stare of raising sun !

Tunnel View re-edit using luminosity masks
I've been using SNS-HDR for my exposure blending for awhile now because it does such a great job of producing natural results but there was something about it that felt a little off, just a little fake.
I've been meaning to try just using luminosity masks to blend my exposures as I anticipated it would produce better results. I think the results speak for themselves; this one was done with luminosity masks (I use tony kuyper's great actions) and the previous post was done with SNS. What do you all think?

Last winter I came across this lone tree in eastern Washington. Since I'm a bit of a tree addict, I couldn't resist the urge to pull the car over at once and to photograph this little guy. Sadly, not much snow this year so no winter shooting as of yet :( Hope everyone has a fabulous Christmas with friends and family!! :)
