I think that this tax, however it will end, will be really important for the future of e-commerce.
If it pass, it may cause a chain reaction in all the web, changing the taxation from the place where the store is located to the place where is the customer. (And there will be an explosion of new services for man in the middle customers)
If it fail, e-stores will gain more power from this sentence and the e-commerce will move strongly toward those countries with the best taxation systems.

First thought: rats are going to leave the ship
Second thought: and what if it should be related to the iTV?

That's so strange... so, TOR just said that publishing e-books without DRM has brought no harm to their business.
Now, let's see what the DRM lovers will reply to this objective data from one big publisher...

My two-week review of Google Glass: it all depends on the price
This week I gave five speeches while wearing it.
I passed through airports four times (two more in a couple of hours).
I let hundreds of people try my Google Glass.
I have barely taken it off since getting it other than to sleep.
Here's my review after having Google Glass for two weeks:
1. I will never live a day of my life from now on without it (or a competitor). It's that significant.
2. The success of this totally depends on price. Each audience I asked at the end of my presentations "who would buy this?" As the price got down to $200 literally every hand went up. At $500 a few hands went up. This was consistent, whether talking with students, or more mainstream, older audiences.
3. Nearly everyone had an emotional outburst of "wow" or ... more »

I like it, a slightly different way of doing e-commerce, one that could save the final resellers putting them at the core, leaving them freedom for their offers, how to show their products... nice, really nice!
I want to find out something else about them.

When I read of #grrmartin planning to change #asongoficeandfire in three trilogies I got a bit down.
And I wrote about it, too, starting some sort of open letter, one last chance for the writer to take me attached to Westeros, before totally lose me.
Then I read one post about #magneto celebrating the marriage of #professorx in real life, but I didn't pay too much attention.
And only when I read of the new project for two or three films about #elric by Moorcock, from the makers of #lotr , I remembered what kind of day it's today.
April, the first. Fishes everywhere.
Given it's a holiday I kinda forgot it, and I totally fell for the #grrmartin post.
But Elric? My Duke? Nah, him on the big screen... nah, too unbelievable.
So, for today I'll stop looking to any news website.
Have a nice day guys (hoping today... more »

Here we have an interview with #otischandler and #russgrandinetti , the first CEO of #goodreads and the latter VP of Kindle Content, about the acquisition of Goodreads by Amazon.
The questions were simple: will Goodreads still be a neutral hub? Will it remain free or will it evolve in an extension of Amazon?
The answers were not so clear.
Grandinetti's ones can be summarized in "first do no harm, then we'll see how to change things slowly".
Chandler's ones are "we hope nothing change, mostly. But we'll see"

Wow, this is a big hit.
I love #goodreads and I admire #amazon , so I'm happy for them.
But I fear that now Goodreads will lose a big portion of its appeal, being owned by one publisher: last summer there were topics about how to handle negative reviews, attacks from trolls, hired reviews. Now I fear the policy will be totally author-oriented...

This is a really good piece about the last #internetwar that, as it was said, threatened the whole Internet.
Just, it wasn't so threatening... it looks rather like a great move from a great vendor, who was able to use in his favour one big attack against its company.

Nice, really nice post wrote by some once-bullied-guy who, at forty, overcome his fears and challenged himself.
With parallels with Bruce Wayne, too!!

This is really interesting... a great research by this unnamed man (or woman). It's not a surprise that many devices still have their default passwords, but to know how many those unprotected devices are, well, this makes you think...

Beware, Westeros High... Prom night is coming!
Who'll be the Prom King? Stannis the library boy? His brother Renly, with his best party ever? Or Joffrey, with his new queen Sansa?
Or Daenerys, who wants to conquer the school for preventing its destruction because of the prom night?
Nice :)

And I'm one of them.
I shall say it's kinda nice and it reminds dear old #googlereader thanks to its usage of #googleapp
We can login, so, with our reader's credentials and we'll find all of our feeds.
And when Reader'll die, they'll have our datas cloned in a new server.
My only doubt it's if they'll store our passwords (weakening them) or if they'll keep relying on Google Apps for allowing our logimn.
I hope for the second one, but the best option would be to allow us to switch (with all our feeds) to the normal login from the "reader user".
Anyway, it looks really a nice new reader, even if they should work a little more on the usability, I think

Google never made me feel like the product. Until today.
I would have paid a subscription price for Google Reader to keep from feeling this way.
The death of Google Reader reveals a problem of the modern Internet that many of us likely have in the back of our heads but are afraid to let surface: We are all participants in a user driven Internet, but we are still just the users, nothing more. No matter how much work we put in to optimize our online presences, our tools and our experiences, we are still at mercy of big companies controlling the platforms we operate on. When they don’t like what’s happening, even if we do, they can make whatever call they want. And Thursday night, Google made theirs.
