This evening, we organized a small exhibition and a slide show at the German Embassy in Port-au-Prince. We had invited few people I had photographed and Haitian supporters of +LESPWA and the OPEPB projects.
It was a very nice evening.
Thanks to the German Ambassador and his wife!

15 months ago, anyone could go in the Cathedral. Today, the Cathedral is bricked and surrounded by a high fence. The forecourt is also blocked. Some say the reason would be the danger of collapse. Others say that the homeless there were billeted.
Currently, money is collected around the world to rebuild the Cathedral.

Sité Soley, Port-au-Prince, Haiti:
Napoleon Lurena (66 years) has two grandchildren at the age of 5 and 14 years. Her daughter had a heart condition and died. Then the father does not care for his children, she provides her grandchildren. By the german organisation LESPWA e.V. she could start a petty trade. She sells cassava bread and peanut butter ("Kasav").

Pierre Mylene (31) lived on the street since she was 14 and earned her living as a prostitute. On the street she gave birth to three children by different suitors. Eventually she married. When she became pregnant by her husband, he left her. She learned the trade of seamstress. Today, she lives with her four children in the little House of her sister and can use her sewing machine.

Here is my contribution to the #plusonecollection2012 by +Ivan Makarov and +Plus One Collection:
Marie Prophet (58) lives in Sité Soley. She was the mother of six children, 5 of which are still living. When she was pregnant with her sixth child, her husband left the family because he was not able to care for them anymore. One of her daughters died leaving two children ages 3 and 6 who were cared for. She is now able to support her living family, by assisted funding through the German aid organization +LESPWA e.V. Marie has a small retail trade that sells bread with Mamba (peanut paste) and homemade coffee in the street. Today this flourishing business is what qualified her family for the aid from LESPWA.
People who are successful in the slums of Port-au-Prince are envied which makes them a target of great danger. Two days after I had taken this picture she was robbed... more »

Marie-Jean-Louis (28), came from St. Marc to Port-au-Prince and was a street kid since she was 12 years old. She lived from prostitution and has 4 children by different fathers. In a Salesian project, she learned to sew.
Today, she sews mainly school uniforms. She gets more orders by walk-in customers, which she see sew on the Gallery of their small home.

The Little Schools Of Father Bohnen (OPEPB)
The vocational school of the masons in ENAM. It is taught with the simplest means.
And very typical of the people of Haiti: the teacher dresses up with a bright shirt and tie, to show that he is higher in the "order of precedence".

Two half-siblings in Lakou, Port-au-Prince. Both are "20 Gourdes children" by different fathers.
20 Gourdes are converted 50 Euro-cents. That is extremely little money also for Haitians.
