Dylan Cuffy0#WhatLiesAground Well...you've been waiting for days, so I'll give it to you now.Welcome to the final edition of what I now dub the Fab 500! Time to say hello (and happy Easter) to this bunch of fine folks. Eleven here, not the usual ten, because someone's account went bye-bye without a word:• +Louie Baur, +Empire Avenue stalwart; ask for him whenever you want aerial views of your car dealership• +Alexander Moschella, a furry who also thrives on +Fiverr• +Juan Reyes (poet hailing from Texas; not that +Juan Reyes, our last milestone man. Thanks, +A Long!)• +Karen Woodward (yet another lit geek; thanks, +Sarah Brown!)• +Philippe TREBAUL (circled through an Empire mission)• +Domenico Mallimo (who had another milestone of his own—15,000 followers—the other day)• +Chris Voss (who recently gave FB users a compelling reason to switch to G+ or elsewhere)• +Kenneth Burchett (follower #10,000 of mine; also, a spot in my Marigot Magic dedication)• +Ray Hamlet (Dominica's second-best on G+)• +Angie Person (another Caribbean user, this time from Aruba; thanks, 2014-04-20 21:55:195000010CC G+

Mz Maau10,204I rarely share circles, and I regret to inform, this is not the promised #CircleDirk , rather, it's a circle I've been semi-maintaining since last spring, when it was created for +Pierce Arner to jump-start his Plus experience.Today, I'm resharing the current version on behalf of +Søren Dalsgaard Brath, who, like Pierce, is looking for new content for his stream.I figure he and I probably have a chunk of overlap, so I've added a few extras he might not yet know about. Some notes about the curation of this circle:I've tried to set aside those who have not posted recently, and I've tried to only include those who post publicly, or to extended circles.  I may have missed a few, and if you're in this circle and would like to be permanently removed, please let me know. This is not the final version, as I'm not sure such a thing is possible. This circle DOES come with a warning:You will, most likely, NOT enjoy everyone in this circle.  I, like many, have eclectic tastes, and I'm still a bit gun-shy after seeing some of the explosions from last year's crossing of the streams, so PLEASE, edit this circle to your liking with that in mind.If I ping you, you're in the circle.  There is no expectation or requirement to add this circle, it's merely a courtesy ping.  Again, if you would like to be removed from any future circle shares, please let me know. And yes, I promise, I'm still working on the #CircleDirk .Also note:  This is NOT an indication of who I like best, though some are included in this circle.  It is simply meant to be a sample of the diversity I follow.#PinkAndFluffyPersonsOfQuestionableRepute2013-06-22 16:38:09164143576CC G+

Joyce Donahue12,332+Jason Elizondo I hear you are wondering why Google+ --- Here are the top 500 relevant people in my Catholics and Friends circle. Good discussions happen with some of these folks.  Add it and it will add only those you don't already have.  I "live" here too, by the way. All day, all night.  Have 4500+ in my circles, over 12,000 have me in circles. Lots of interaction, made some good friends. Lots of people with shared interests.  I post "public" mostly , but for sensitive topics, only to Catholics and those who are sympathetic, because I got tired of arguing with atheists and haters. I have had occasional small opportunities to do a little "closet evangelization," too.  Enjoy!2013-03-27 00:48:375001107CC G+

I had an Easter bunny visit me today.  The dogs going nuts alerted me that someone was at the front door.  Shooing the dogs away I said, "Yes?"

"Mr. Kim?"

"No.  Mr. F**.  Do I look Korean?"

"I'm looking for Mr. Kim."

"Well he is not here and has not been for some time as we bought this house from a bank.  You are a special process server, right?"

"What is he getting sued for?  Let me see the complaint."

"So you do know him.  Where is he?"

(laughing) "No.  I do not know him.  It is just curiosity.  Also I would like him to send me the remotes for the garage door."

The jerk would not let me see the complaint.

Three game suspension.  Seebs knows better than that, especially since it is the playoffs.  There are two big no-nos here for all you young hockey players.
1.  Seabrook left the ice for the shot.
2.  It was a head shot.

I was thinking that it is worthy of a two game suspension, but three it is.

These are divining rods.  Divining rods are some sort of hocus-pocus to determine where to put a water well.  The theory is that the sticks cross each other when water is below ground.  That is where you dig your well.  Pfui!  That is absurd, but that technique is still used today.

The reason why I post this is because I have been lugging about a cast iron antique hand pump for years and would like to put it to use finally.  Where I now live none of the houses have basements (guessing because water is below) and it is very close to the north branch of the Chicago River.  Therefore I think my chances are high for striking water if I pound a pipe several yards down.

Does anyone know anything about this type of thing because I do not?

Sneaky Chicago speed cameras.  Here is one of my cars  (not me driving) getting clocked at a whopping 29 MPH on a major artery.  What the hell is the speed limit?  I, and most people, would assume that it is 30 MPH.  Apparently that is not the case if you are near a school.  In this case there is a high school right here.  A high school?  Why would the speed limit need to be reduced for a high school?  Are 16 year old kids that stupid that they jump out into traffic randomly?  I say Darwin them if they do and sue the parents for damage to your car.

The obvious answer is that it is a money grab by the city.  Let us be honest.  This is not about safety.  It is about the city trying to squeeze every nickel possible out of you.  Evidence of this is that it arrived from City of Chicago Department of Finance.

And they are all over the city.  This is a map of where theyare:  http://a... more »

Seriously?  It is April 14 today and this happens and it is still coming down steadily.  What the hell?  I am not complaining as I know this sort of thing happens where I chose to live.  It is just kind of depressing after having a brutally cold and snowy winter and being teased with one or two days recently that were in the 70's F.  Thanks Al Gore.

Any tips on TV antennas?  I refuse to pay for cable television as I should be able to pull in lots and lots of HD OTA channels without cable.  OK.  I do have cable.  It is the Comcast cable that comes with internet service.  It is basic cable and their version of "basic" is fewer channels that you can get using an antenna and presented to you in low definition.

At my old location I could pull in about 45 channels using rabbit ears.  At the the new location the lower channels not so much, the lower power stations not at all.  I would like something slim that I can carry around with the small TV if I want to watch my sports in the backyard or whatnot.

What to do?  Every website I go to recommends these antennas that attach to the roof.  Uh, I am about 35 yards from Chicago and do not believe I need such an installation.  Also of note, the TV that does work well with+Katie Ra... more »

It was not quite this complicated this evening when I went to take the dogs for a walk as I only had five dogs.  It is still in the mid 70's F right now.  I am kind of used to 10 to -20 F at this point.  This is awesome weather so I had to take the dogs for a walk.

During the short walk (cut short because I had to carry my #1 dog back due to arthritis-  her arthritis, not mine) I met some new neighbors.  Mind you that carrying a dog while walking four other dogs is not exactly the easiest thing, especially when one of the dogs is 90 pounds and likes to run after any squirrel she sees.  So I surmise that the neighbors that I met were less than enthusiastic seeing me with five dogs.  Whatever.  Last Friday I was less than enthused about the party their kid had which was noisy and left my lawn littered with beer cans.

I do like this guy's approach to walking many dogsthough.... more »

Not content with just selling my CDs to the used book store, today I went back and sold my records (I do not even have a record player any more or a stereo for that matter).  Really?  They buy records?  $5.00-$10.00 was what I was expecting and I was going to invest that money in a Jim Thompson book that I was eyeing the last time I was in there.  My first hint that I was in for a pleasant surprise was when I was browsing about the vintage book rack near the sell counter and and heard someone say, "Holy crap!  Joe look at this stuff.  This is an original 'Sandinista' by The Clash.  Look at this other stuff."

$72.00.  Not too shabby.  So I bought that Jim Thompson book and two Dashiell Hammett books and had lots of money left over.  Overall it was a very nice Monday.

I need help here.  These are the numbers stamped on my 1980 bicycle that I am trying to sell once I restore it.  It is a Schwinn Predator which was first sold in 1981.  I was always told that this was a prototype by my uncle who worked for Schwinn at the time.  The HR number on the front head tube means August 1980.  That furthers my argument that it is not a production bike and is in fact a one of a kind prototype.    On the rear inside of the frame where the wheel attaches it is stamped with 1229 and 1228 on opposite sides.  I do not know what that means, but they are mismatched numbers.  On the front tube badge 0631 is imprinted.  I also do not know what that means.

I am pretty confident that it is a one of a kind bike, but I ask my friends here to confirm that it is.  Thanks!  Either that or I can have my uncle sign an affidavit to it's originality.  #bicycle #bmx #Schwinn#bike... more »

My niece's birthday kind of did an ambush on me.  It was today and was reminded of that by the lady of New Fort Fantastico.  So I scrambled about and came up with antique porcelain elephant figurines.  I said, "Wrap these up.  These are nice.  We will tell her that she likes elephants."

"Oh, these are nice.  I like these.  Where did you get these?  I'll put them on display in the dining room."

As I could not find anything else suitable for a little girl on short notice I had to go shopping.  I wound up gifting her a huge box of rubber bands that kids make bracelets out of.  It is really the rage with little girls these days.  Whoever invented that is probably really wealthy.  She was very happy with the gift, but I still think the elephants are cooler.

So I traded in my CD collection for these books.  To me books are useful and music is a waste of time.  I think I went overboard on the British authors.  The only two books I bought that are not of British authors are the Rex Stout books.  Those are my favorites of the lot though.  The reflection off of the plastic of the middle lower book obscures it.  It is The Broken Vase by Rex Stout.  It is not a Nero Wolfe mystery.  Instead it is a Tecumseh Fox mystery.  Also I am pleased with the hardcovers of the two Len Deighton books and the three-in-one of Frederick Forsyth.

If you are curious the shop encases older books in plastic to help prevent paper rot.  Paper rot is also that really awesome smell of books.

This is the Schwinn prototype Predator BMX that I am looking to sell +Rich Griffith.  Remarkably I still have 99% of it.  It came with the spoke wheels in the foreground.  I replaced them with the mag wheels to be cool.  The seat is also different, but the original seat and post are at the near right corner of the footlocker.  It also has different handlebars (again-- to look cool) but the original bars and neck are on the footlocker as well.  Heck, I even still have the pads that it came with.

There is no other bicycle like this as it is a prototype.  What should I do?  Should I take it to a shop and have them restore it?  Should I sell it as is?  What should I sell it for?  I am thinking around $250.00.  Also it is a bad picture as the frame, big gear, and chain look rusty.  Only the chain is (easy fix).

Please forward this to any bicycle enthusiasts.  Thanks!

What the heck?  I exploded at the guy that I hired to handle the closing at my old place today.  He called me up to tell me that the buyers were upset about dog poop in the backyard and that the upstairs shower did not have enough pressure.  Huh?

This is a summary of my reply to him:

"Tell them that we have dogs and dogs poop.  Bill it as bonus fertilizer for the lawn.  Tell them that the water needs to be pumped up two stories so it will obviously lose pressure.  Suggest buying a new shower head.  What the hell am I paying you for and what does this have to do with anything?  Just close!"

This really annoys me as I am a lawyer and could have dealt with this myself.  Instead I hired a guy to do it for me and he sucks.  My Irish temper got a workout.

So I found these prescription lens sunglasses to aid in the search for my glasses.  The lady said that I should never wear them again.  I see nothing wrong with them.   What do you say ladies?

+Mz Maau this is the watch that I mentioned last night.  I found it during my recent move to the wilderness.  It was my great-grandfather's watch.  He needed a watch with a second hand to measure pulse rates as he was a doctor in WW I, or the story goes.  It is nice enough, but probably not very valuable.  I would venture that a 100 year old Waltham watch like this in working order and very good condition would be valued at around $65.00.  But I really do not know what I am talking about.  It is just a nice thing from my ancestor and I am very happy that I found where I put it.

My Le Coultre Atmos Century clock is for sale.  There is no real place to put it in the new house as it has to be not jostled in any fashion to work as well as being perfectly level.  A bookshelf where people walk by it?  No go!  The vibrations from the floor to the bookshelf (God help the clock if someone takes a book off of the shelf) will mess it up.

It is a real cool piece of antique Swiss machinery though.  It is billed as "The Perpetual Motion Clock."  That is because it does not need winding or any sort of power source other than the atmosphere.  Really.  The movements are from small changes in the atmosphere.  That just baffles my mind (and the clock also has a baffle).

Working and keeping perfect time.  Gold plated, original box and instructions.  $800.00.

It is really cool and steam punk so maybe I will keep it.  $800.00 is nothing to sneezeat though a... more »

Here is the problem with moving (well, one of the problems):  You cannot find anything.  By "anything" I mean everything.  It does not matter if you have unpacked what you are looking for or if it is still in a box somewhere.  Unless it is a large item of furniture you have no clue where it is.  That includes the cat who is completely freaked out and finding new places to cower.  I surmise that her being put into a soft suitcase and then into a car trunk really did a number on her brain.

It is also about finding places...  I am unable to find most of anything.  I look online to find such things as hardware stores, Greek restaurants, etc. and find oddly named streets.  Natch I look it up on an online map.  "Well where the heck is that?  This does not really help me." I think.  I get hopelessly lost of course after getting directions.  Stupid diagonal streets! Even when I... more »

I sold about 250 books today because there is less space in the new house for my library.  After some negotiating we agreed on $80.00 for the lot which I think was a bargain for him.  Who knew that there were still bookstores that buy books (other than really rare stuff)?

After that transaction was done I asked if he had any Jim Thompson or Dashiell Hammett books to sell.  "We don't really carry pulp trash like that." was his reply.

Really?  The guy thumbed his nose at Jim Thompson and Dashiell Hammett?  To heck with that snob.  Natch I stormed out of the store never to set foot in there again.

My neighbor is probably one of the most decent humans I have ever met and I will miss him.  We are always trying to one up each other in the doing good things to neighbor category.  Tonight when I let the dogs out, ("Who let the dogs out?"  Geof did!) I found my neighbor pacing about his driveway and not looking happy.

Me:  "* I have not seen you for about a week.  Is everything OK?"

*:  's mother is in a bad way and we have been there and will likely return back in two days or so."

Me:  "Oh jeez.  That is the worst.  If there is anything I can do for you let me know.  By the way I wanted to tell you this sooner but you were gone.  We are moving on Friday."

The new plan re:  moving is to have the movers put all of the crap that I could not sell into the garage.  I will then put up a Craig's List post advertising free stuff.  And not all of it is crap.  There are decent things that I am trying to get rid of.  After that I will hire some junk mover to clean out the garage of everything leftover.  It sounds like a half-baked plan.

Sometimes I blurt out the wrong things.  This afternoon I encountered one of my sister's friends from high school.  The first thing that I said was, "Hey!  Didn't your dad just die?"  I made a mental note that is not the way to greet people that I have not seen in a decade or so.  Uncouth.

And another one down.  Sold is one NordicTrack Pro cross-country ski trainer thing for $60.00 (sells for $700.00).  This time the buyer actually seemed like a normal person as opposed to the other freaks that I met on Craig's List Chicago.  Tomorrow morning the recliner should be sold to a Mrs. Flores for $35.00.  Saturday the twin bed should be sold to a Mr. Irwin for $15.00.

Bargains!  If you live near Chicago you might want to check out what I am selling.  So far there is no interest in a nice maple wood dresser that is only $15.00.

Tomorrow I shovel out the snow to get access to the bicycles for sale.  I have some nice bikes for sale on the cheap.  One of them is a one of the kind prototype.

I have been working on slogans for Chicago neighborhoods and suburbs.  Let me know what you think.

Lincoln Park:  Where your parking space costs almost as much as your condo.

Oak Park:  All the big city crime and all the suburban taxes.  (The same applies to Evanston)

Niles:  Live here and feel young as everyone else is 90 years old.

Lake View/Wrigleyville:  Come for the Cubs, stay for sucking on some chubs.

Englewood:  It is better than Austin.

Austin:  What's that Englewood?  I'll jack you up.  Wesside represent.

Skokie:  If you are Hebrew Skokie is for you.

Bedford Park:  Home of the large water supply A/K/A Lake Michigan that everyone else has.  Coming soon is the telegraph.

Kenosha, WI:  No, really.  We are a suburb.

Gold Coast:  One magnificent give me your phone!

Charles:  Hey buddy checking out ur weights any of them cracked?

Me:  There is the CTA Green Line (Ridgeland stop), the CTA Blue Line (Austin stop), the Metra Union Pacific/West Line (Oak Park stop), and the Metra Milwaukee District/West Line (Galewood stop).  I can pick you up in a car this evening at any of those stops.  The Green Line stop is in walking distance (well, about a mile walk).

I am sorry that I have been away for so long.  Things are a bit hectic around here with the move and all.  Two good things I have going for me:
1) I sold the grill tonight.  Some Marine actually drove all the way down from Kenosha, Wisconsin to get it.  Boo on him for pulling the, "Can you come down on the price?  I drove all the way from Wisconsin and I am a veteran" card.
"Bully on you for being a Marine and trying to use that to chisel the price.  Fine.  I will discount it $5.00."

OldSay.  The recliner is also going to be sold at a $15.00 discount on Thursday.  The other items I will deeply discount on Craig's List since there seems to be little interest.  It is good stuff that I am selling on the cheap.

2) One highlight tonight was when I called up Comcast to cancel internet service at this place and establish service at the new place. Now we w... more »

1) Starbucks espresso machine used only about twice.  New is about $450.00.  I ask $50.00.
2) Barca Lounger blue leather reclining chair damaged by dogs scratching it, but still very nice (the red spots in the photo are from the flash).  New it would be over $1,000.00, I sell it for $30.00.  Really, those scratches might buff right out.
3) Nordic Track cross country ski simulator thing.  It is in excellent shape and new would cost around $700.00.  You can have it for $50.00.

Sorry that I have not been around much lately my friends.  I just bought a new house and am working hard at trying to get water to it.  Sub zero temperatures do not really help the situation.  The insurance company made a spot check to see if the house was occupied (much cheaper that way) and luckily I was there with my dogs.  "Would I be here with my dogs if the house was unoccupied?" I asked.  Of course it is unoccupied!  There is no f'ing water.  We stay at the other house which just sold for a ton of money yesterday.  Delay the closing until the new one is habitable...

I will be sinking about $30 k to get the house right, but the sale of the house I am in now will more than cover that.  And so long stucco piece of crap house.  Maybe stucco is a good building material in a damned desert, but not so much in Chicago.  So I guess I am moving from one nightmare toanother...... more »

A little trash talk.  It should be a good game tomorrow.  Both teams are stacked up with talent and it is unfortunate that it is not the finals as the two teams are clearly the best teams in the Olympics.  Not checking Vegas, I would put Canada at -1.  However, Team USA put together a complete team whereas Team Canada seems to have just slapped together the top guys without a thought about if they could play together.  Hence I am not betting on the game.  Whichever team that wins this game should get the gold.  Of course there is still either Sweden or Finland to get through for that.  Also, I am not discounting Finland (they eliminated Russia) although everyone assumes Sweden will win.  That should also be a good game as it is also a rivalry.

And congrats. to Canada for getting the gold in Women's Hockey.  America fell apart in the third.  America was playing prevent instead of ofkeeping up... more »

Just another Chicago politician.  Well, no.  Mel Reynolds took things to a whole new level.  What the heck?  His illegal shenanigans in Chicago were not enough, so he went to Zimbabwe to get put in prison there.

So far this week I learned some about wavelengths.  WGN launched a new "radio" station.  It is in quotes because it is actually a television station according to the FCC.  87.7 FM is the same thing as the VHF television channel 6.  The analog TV spectrum is due to be freed up sometime in the spring so it must have been a cheap spectrum to rent.  Rent is key here as WGN is owned by the Tribune.  They already have a newspaper, a TV station, and a radio station in Chicago.  They would be blocked if they bought by the FCC it as that is too much media in one city owned by one company.  They are free to lease whatever they want.  Antiquated rules.

And another strange thing is that as it is actually an analog TV channel it is hit or miss if your radio can get it.  Some radios start at 87.9.  I never knew it was this weird.

Is anyone in the Chicago area interested in free shit that I am about to give away?  You pick it up and I do not have to deal with it for the move up north.  Let me see here...  Free for the taking are three bicycles.  One is a vintage Schwinn Stingray, one is a Schwinn Tour de Force racing bike, one is a Schwinn Predator prototype BMX bicycle (probably very rare as it was a prototype).  I have a twin bed that needs to go away.  There is a chest freezer.  There are an assortment of dressers.  There are two leather chairs kind of damaged by dog nails but fully functional.  There is a love seat.  I have CDs and records that I have not touched in about a decade.  There are a couple of chests that would make nice toy chests for your children.  A couple of charcoal grills.  A snow blower (not available for immediate gifting).  An assortment of gardening implements.  You name it I have it and it isfree.  Just sh... more »

+Angie Person I will attempt to put my harrowing story of my barroom brawl in Toronto into terms that Canadians can understand.  He threw the first punch when I was just a guy on the ice watching what was going on.  I got into it after that of course.  It escalated so clearly we both get a major penalty and a game misconduct.  Canada also slaps me with a ban from the league.  Whatever you do, do not defend yourself if you are in Canada.  Just whimper on the ice and call out for your mommy.

Well this video/article does not really say anything of value.  In fact it does not even list the "Top 10 wireless modem/routers."  Stupid Australians.

The situation is that I now own two houses.  Home owners insurance is really high if the property is not occupied, so I was volunteered into moving into the new place ahead of everyone else.  Well, I will probably take the dogs with me.  The problem is that I need internet and cannot simply take the modem from the house I am with me because internet is needed there as well.  What to do?

Buy another modem (not going to rent one from Comcast).  While I am at it, it might as well also be a router.  Besides, the current modem I have has a noisy transformer which reeks havoc if you try to listen to AM radio.  Stupid ground loop!  That was even too technical for me.

Are the all-in-one deals good, or not?  Iwould pref... more »

There was a proposition bet on if The Red Hot Chili Pepper's would wear shirts.  That bet is just giving money to your bookie.  Of course at least one of them will.  That is what they do.  I did not realize that they also shave their chest hair.  What is that?  Is it to look more like a woman or a prepubescent boy?  Is it to accentuate their muscles?  Why would anyone do that?  Are they auditioning for gay porn movies?

I am the man with many questions about this.

That said, it was a pretty cool half time show which is saying a lot from me since I am not into music at all and do not know who Bruno Mars is.  Also, it was nice that they did not sing about how they are from California, enjoy living in California, and how Los Angeles is the greatest place ever.

The game itself blew donkey balls.  The commercials.  Yeah, I never watch those, but I hear they weresubstandard... more »

Who is betting on the Super Bowl?  I was going to bet heavily on Denver before I saw the line.  Screw that!  The only way that I see to get big bucks is to do some of the prop. bets.  Every offshore site offers about 200 strange bets.  You can win if you do the research (which they did not really do as they just had to offer about 200 strange bets).

Here is a little slap stick comedy from Fort Fantastico tonight.  I went to put my dogs out to do their business.  One was laying on the lady's lap while she was knitting (the human, not the dog.  I wish I could train the dogs to knit).  The other was nearby.  I proffered a laptop with something that I thought she might want to see in exchange for the dog on her lap.  Offer, acceptance, consideration--  a valid contract.  When I got to the door she yelled, "Stop!  You guys are all tangled up in my yarn!"

Sure enough the little lap dog brought the yarn down with her.  The giant German Shepherd in excitement got entwined with it, and it was roped about my shoes as well.  The lady laughing at me did not help matters much while I was trying to free the dogs and myself from the yarn bondage.  It only got the dogs excited.

I guess it would have been funny had youbeen there.... more »

Well this spiraled out of control fast.  The lady wanted to buy her brother a Hawks sweater for his birthday.  She scoffed at the prices of the sweaters that she found so she came to me.

"Yeah, I can get them much cheaper.  I have a guy in China.  They are exactly the same down to the tie-downs.  Which sweater would he like?"

It is cheaper if you buy in bulk so we put in an order for 15 sweaters.  Her brother is getting a Toews one.  I am taking the Hossa one just to annoy Pittsburgh and Detroit folks (also because he is awesome).  Kane is going to my sister.  Sharp is going to my brother-in-law.  Shaw is going to my cousin, etc.

Two hippies knocked on my door just now.

"Hi.  I'm Alex and this is Lydia."

(Lydia waving and smiling)  "Hey."

"We're working to clean up the rivers in Illinois, from the Illinois River to the Mississippi they are polluted.  Especially with the runoff from big agriculture.

(Me giving the thumbs up sign and closing the door)  "Uh-huh.  Good luck!"
(Alex)  "Thanks."

1.  Door to door soliciting is illegal in my village.
2.  I recognized Alex from two years ago when he was droning on about some other cause.

Last night I took the car out and noted that the windshield was all salted up making it hard to see.  Of course the windshield wiper fluid is frozen solid.  As the lady needed the car today for work I gave her a bottle of alcohol and told her to wipe off the salt with it.

This morning she goes off to the garage armed with the alcohol, rags, and Windex.  Windex?  Mind you it was about -10 F this morning.  She came back into the house saying that the Windex instantly froze to the windshield.  Well no shit.  Perhaps that is why I gave her the alcohol and not the Windex.  So I went out and scraped the ice off the windshield for her.

What happened to the City of Chicago?  I do not recall lots of businesses just shutting down due to the cold before this winter.  This is "normal" now.  For God's sake, man up and bundle up.  This is Chicago.  What did these people expect?  And it really hurts the working poor the most.  Some people really need their hours at work to put food on the table and they will not get them.  Compounding that is that schools will be closed tomorrow so people have to scramble for a baby sitter so that they can go to work.  If they do not show up they are fired.  When I grew up here nothing shutdown because of the cold.

Bunch of panty-waists if you ask me.

The latest nice find that I found while going through my stuff is a Thorens double claw lighter circa 1920's- early 1940's (was not able to pin down the date) that looks exactly like this one.  It is awesome and I forgot that I had an antique lighter collection.  The button on the right side underneath the lid is actually a screw to lock it.  If it is unscrewed and you touch it the lid flips up, the wheel strikes the flint, and you are good to set things afire.  The lock I assume is because the lighter will set your liar, liar, pants on fire if it is not locked while in your pocket.

It is really a remarkable piece of engineering from pre-WWII Austria.  Well, if you ignore that it is rather complicated to change the flint and really complicated to change the wick.

It really is cool and the lighter in its condition is valued at about $70.00.  I prefer Zippos though as youcan d... more »

Operation Niles is over.  I repeat.  Operation Niles is over.  The inspector found mold.  The bank (it was a foreclosed house) sent someone out and estimated the cost to fix it at $13,000.00.  Because of that they were willing to cut the price by $10,000.00.  How about screw you and your house o' mold?  Mold always comes back.

I did not like the house one bit as it did not have a basement, was a bit too suburban for me to be comfortable, and it is all on one level.

I miss Kevin Matthews.  Here Jim Shorts is calling up Harry Teinowitz's sports show today to take charge of things.  Ignore the YouTube stuff.  The audio link is above it.

Probably only funny if you are from Chicago.  Maybe not.
