TLDR; Comcast sucks. Help me Google Fiber, you're my only hope.

Oh for fuck's sake. I just got a notice from Comcast that my Atlanta internet is approaching the "cap" for this month. I had no idea there was a cap. Turns out to be 300GB. After that they charge an extra $10 for each 50GB. I really loathe +Comcast, and I wish we had other options.

Their customer service is generally TERRIBLE and their product is overpriced for what you get (ours is billed as 25MB for $50/mth, and we don't get near that speed, even on wired connections). AND it has a cap? Are you kidding me Comcast?

I have not even been home for most of this month. It's summer though, so the kids, who are home, stream stuff -- music and video. I guess that's what's going on. That means 2 streamers and 1 email/light web user (wife) in a household can hit the cap (2/3 of the way... more »

Good news if you ride a bike in downtown Seattle: http://crosscut.com/2014/07/23/transportation/121110/2nd-avenue-bike-lane-protection-cars-drivers/

That is actually the street I take to work when I ride my bike (which is only occasionally, I also walk since it's just a few miles).

Tangent: I do this crazy thing while I'm riding my bike in Seattle, I stop at stop signs and lights, and wait in traffic at lights! This seems to cause confusion with some drivers, and I think it's because they don' t expect that at all. Many of the bikers in downtown Seattle are dicks. Don't get me wrong, I love the biking thing, fun, healthy, better for the environment, win all around -- but just because you're on a bike doesn't mean you get to be a dick. Get over yourself. Weaving in and out of traffic and running lights and parking in crosswalks and darting to the sidewalki... more »

We're finally starting to take the wraps off the new product we've been working on since late last year: +FullStory / fullstory.com

These articles do a pretty good job of covering it, but in a nutshell what we've built is a searchable "DVR" for your web app's user interactions. We believe that if you have a web app, and care about improving user experience and/or doing a better job supporting your customers, you should consider trying FullStory. I know that sounds a little pitchy, but we really are pretty proud of it.

A lot of fun work has gone into implementing recording, playback, and analysis, as well as scaling the whole thing, which has been... non-trivial. As we settle in and get a bit more free time, I'll probably be posting some of the more interesting technical details. We still have a long way to go to realize our vision, but there's... more »

You better believe I donated to the Mayday PAC. I believe we seriously need "fundamental reform in the way elections are funded." Right now money runs politics in the states, and that's wrong. It doesn't matter which party you favor, or what your personal views are, having lawmakers beholden to corporations and PACs ruins the legislative process and drowns out the voices of the people, and reason and logic. We need to stop selling elections, and that's what Mayday aims to do. (Yes, it's a PAC, but a PAC that aims to end all PACs, even itself -- check it out.)

I really like Songza. It's the only online streaming music service I really use. I mean I have my own stuff on G-Play Music, but when I want to find new stuff or just chill, I hit up Songza. It's great because of how simple and focused it is -- load it, click 3 buttons, music is on. I congratulate them on getting acquired by Google, but the selfish gene says I hope that doesn't mess up my free and easy streaming service ;).

Rantmode on -- The worst behaved listview app on my phone that I still actually use is.... Google+. This thing constantly drops my position in the list and makes me scroll again, and it doesn't save other state like which circle I was in either. It's just a really frustrating app. Oh and once again Google, I never want to see "everything" and yet this app forces me to look at that. The value here is the curated content and opinions of my friends/acquaintances and not the front page.

I'm just getting around to watching all the I/O stuff today (I'm not there for the first time in 5 years, and was traveling). Overall, quite impressive. L looks great, performance, battery, APIs -- and it's not brand new, but the move to ART for reals is big. I also applaud the Auto stuff (looks promising). I'm a little bewildered by TV, because I did a lot with Google TV and it's unclear to me exactly what happened there and what this is, but I like the idea of one SDK for all the displays. And, Chromecast is one of my favorite things. The focus there is great. Native mirroring is a big win. The sharing when you're not on the same WiFi that figures out if you're in the same room and falls back to a code is cool too -- but it's old hat to me, I wrote that same thing at MOVL a few years back (and it's now in Samsung TVs) ;). Wearable, maybe it's just me, but meh. Fit,... more »

So I haven't paid any attention to the techsphere today. I was heads down on other stuff. Now that I check in to see the Amazon Fire Phone, the first thing I notice is $649! Are you kidding Amazon?

That surprises me, regardless of the specs. Amazon usually does the loss-leader style thing to gain marketshare. In this case they're going to be facing a serious uphill battle with the price. I know they think they have distinguished it with cameras and features exclusive to Amazon and so on, but, wow.

Seems like the market nowadays is rewarding the opposite, cheaper devices with better specs (at least improving specs).

I would like to thank +Univision for streaming all of the early round World Cup matches for free online. Works easily, great coverage, no BS, and you get to hear all the GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOALs!

(Other so called sports programming networks are not streaming it for free and instead require a cable subscription or deals with certain providers -- and all of that is really annoying. Yes, there are other ways to get it, I know that, but Univision works great and it's legal -- and you might even learn a Spanish word or two.)

Dear interplussers. Is there a way to make the G+ Android app always default to a circle I care about instead of "everything"?

I really don't EVER want to see everything. Seems like it used to stay on the circle I wanted but now defaults to every all the time.

I poked around in settings and didn't see anything, did I miss it?

The Dude abides! And 5th Element! And more.

Costumes in the lobby at the Cinerama in Seattle -- great single screen theater. Quality of the screen and projection is really nice, seats and theater are nice -- this is what paying money to see a movie out should be like -- not the local megaplex that has shitty all of the above.

The kids feeding "Popeye" the harbor seal who lives at the Marina in Friday Harbor (San Juan Island, WA -- we visited on the way back from Victoria, CA).

Please disregard our commentary about seal nipples, the audio has not been edited ;).
