Daniel Mihai Popescu61,295This circle is called Survivors!  It is dedicated to all of you :)I waited to fill it a little more with some new faces :)I hope you are notified, if not, nothing changes.Just a "+1" is more than enough (and I speak here for the members) #danielmihaipopescusharedcircles   #maximumperformance  It is an homage to you, so there's no need to share it, there are no conditions. If I forgot any of you, please forgive me and tell me, instead of uncircle me without notice :)I never was in "follow me and I'll follow you back" game, not here, nor on Twitter, where people are more liberal :)I'm out of the sharing circles game, as most of you already have noticed, and it's up to anyone to do whatever he/she/it likes with that :) I thank to any of you who kept in their public shared circles the time I have been absent (there was a very motivated reason for it), and I'm absolutely passive about the people who took me out of their public circles, considering they have not an immediate benefit from that. Oh, and I'm very glad because some circle spammers have unfollowed me. I do not really deserve their company :)Have a wonderful weekend, dear friends!2014-10-18 18:08:10469333748

Dr. John Cassone12,100Dr. John's Selectgood content and engagementThese are people I follow, engage with, and suggest for my new followers who want quality people in their stream. This circle changes each time I share it based on how people are engaging and sharing content. This is not a megacircle.People are only added based on good content or my experience engaging with them.Best way to sort and manage your stream:1. add new circle2. follow it in your stream separately 3. engage with those that interest you (good content/interaction)4. cherry pick those you like and make your own circles5. let go of the rest (or put them in a circle that's dialed down on your stream)If you add too many people too often then you will not build meaningful connections which is the point here.Circle Management Basics:1. Circles control who you follow:►   I might feel like reading the news so I have a news channel circle. I don't build relationships with these pages but follow them and share content when interesting. This way I can completely control my stream based on my mood.2. Circles control who your share to: ►   Share to your interests: I like martial arts but most of my followers do not. By collecting a circle of others that like martial arts I can share specifically to those interested in this topic and not bore anyone.►  I have also collected an "inner circle" of g-peeps that I have gotten to know and share more person pics and info with.3. Control your stream flow:►   When you click on a specific circle in your stream you can adjust how much the posts from that circle appear in your "everything" stream. ►   Organize people based on flow: I have three main circles called 1, 2, and 3. I have the amount of flow dialed in priority (circle 1 is high, 2 is medium, and 3 is low). I move people between circles based on the progression of our relationship. ►   Notify circle: I have another circle with people that I don't want to miss a single post from. This circle is set to notify me whenever someone from it posts. This is a great way to focus on building a relationship with specific people.Happy Plussing :)2014-09-07 19:22:331921015

Dr. John Cassone11,568Dr. John's July Selectgood content and engagementThese are people I follow, engage with, and suggest for my new followers who want quality people in their stream. I've also included some of my new engagers. This is not a megacircle. People are only added based on good content or my experience engaging with them.Best way to sort and manage your stream:1. add new circle2. follow it in your stream separately 3. engage with those that interest you (good content/interaction)4. cherry pick those you like and make your own circles5. let go of the rest (or put them in a circle that's dialed down on your stream)If you add too many people too often then you will not build meaningful connections which is the point here.Circle Management Basics:1. Circles control who you follow:> I might feel like reading the news so I have a news channel circle. I don't build relationships with these pages but follow them and share content when interesting. This way I can completely control my stream based on my mood.2. Circles control who your share to: > Share to your interests: I like martial arts but most of my followers do not. By collecting a circle of others that like martial arts I can share specifically to those interested in this topic and not bore anyone.> I have also collected an "inner circle" of g-peeps that I have gotten to know and share more person pics and info with.3. Control your stream flow:> When you click on a specific circle in your stream you can adjust how much the posts from that circle appear in your "everything" stream. > Organize people based on flow: I have three main circles called 1, 2, and 3. I have the amount of flow dialed in priority (circle 1 is high, 2 is medium, and 3 is low). I move people between circles based on the progression of our relationship. > Notify circle: I have another circle with people that I don't want to miss a single post from. This circle is set to notify me whenever someone from it posts. This is a great way to focus on building a relationship with specific people.Happy Plussing :)2014-07-13 19:18:1119017315

Just a "+1" from your part will be greatly appreciated, there's no need to spend your precious time with sharing or commenting. For non-members, I think you have to figure out on your own what to do, because usually I don't promise anything, I'm don't barter my circles membership. If you add the circle, it's definitively your gain, so I strongly suggest you to do so. The circle's title is not in vain, it really suggests the circle's dynamic. #danielmihaipopescusharedcircle   #maximumperformance  This, like all of my other circles, is an homage to you.Thank you very much for being my friends!2014-06-26 14:46:19412442853

Look what's on the this month's cover of Scientific America....Maybe word is finally getting out about how we really are Empowered to create our own joy or produce our own suffering. Yes, we are "influenced" by external events, and of course some experiences (death/sickness of family member; loss of employment; etc.)...But so much of our own daily pain is self-driven...Freedom is at hand, but YOU must DO THE WORK....May you be well, my friends.___21C Literacies: Meditation

Visual Storytelling: Synaesthesia

Light Motif is conceived as a synaesthetic experience based on a visual transposition of Music for 18 Musicians – Section II, by the American composer Steve Reich. The ambition of the film is to cinematically capture the extraordinary life force that animates this essential work of contemporary music by offering a truly hypnotic experience where music can be “seen”.

The inspiration for the project stems from the relationship between music and the visual arts, illustrated by artists such as Wassily Kandinsky, Oskar Fischinger, Norman McLaren or John Whitney. These works try to establish precise connections between sounds, shapes, colors and movements, to visually translate the concepts of rhythm, melody, harmony, pitch, timbre and intensity. Light Motif proposes applying the construction principles of Steve Reich’s compositions to visual language.

Rigorously architected, his compositions are based on the repetition of short melodic patterns subjected to the gradual processes of dephasing, lengthening pattern, rhythmic saturation and tonal changes. The result of these subtle variations in the repetitions is a sound texture in constant transformation. The listener passes progressively from a polyphonic perception to a global perception, from the perception of a discontinuous sound phenomenon to a continuous one. In Light Motif it is this perceptual phenomenon that is transcribed into images.

Procedural generation techniques are used to transpose the motifs and compositional processes into a semi-abstract visual form made of colored lights and geometric shapes.

Light Motif explores the possibilities of synergy between music and image through a subjective experience that can speak directly to the subconscious of the viewer.

"Business leaders' assumptions (often prejudices) about the capacities or even the validity of stakeholders - whether inside or outside the company - weaken the leaders' ability to make wise decisions. When they rise above such bias and engage more of their stakeholders effectively, they strengthen their decision-making talent and their leadership status."

1. People are aware that symptoms of dysfunction exist.
2. People care about this dysfunction beyond their own immediate self-interest.
3. People discern between symptoms and causes.
4. People recognize the causes are, ultimately, people.
5. People distinguish between the forest and the individual trees within that forest (or, to tie-in to my earlier reference: between the cauldron and the contents within that cauldron).
6. People recognize that a forest/cauldron-level view (vs. a tree/ingredient-level view) is the more promising means of identifying dysfunction at a system level vs., say, at the tree/ingredient level.
7. People identify the system-level dysfunction as the first issue to be remedied.
8. People strategize remedies.
9. People implement remedies.

"But there is also another direction this trick of language takes me, too, back to the dream, where we can look more carefully, and keep looking into an authentic mystery: the inspiring, energetic field that we also call leadership, especially when it emerges spontaneously among people. There really is a kind of beauty to it, and I see that beauty most frequently in those who have a boundless appetite for learning about themselves and their impacts; in those who see themselves very much involved in the problems they are trying to solve; in human beings who bring their love for others and their respect and nurturance to the many invisible everyday exchanges that make up their jobs, conversations rich in trust, interest in others, vulnerability and collaboration."
-- +Dan Oestreich   http://goo.gl/m2owVz

"Clarity of communication is so key. When I speak about invisible architectures I also speak about language. Our language so much replicates the old paradigm."

"My first contact with Tolkien's books was in about 1991, when I was eleven years old. I was camping with some friends in the woods and we used to read to each other at the fireside, first from the Hobbit, then from the Lord of the Rings. These were experiences which left a very strong impression on me." -Harff

Also, the flows of energy, materials, and genetic information between the forest's organisms become steadily more numerous and complex. If we think of the ecosystem as a network, both the number of nodes in the network and the density of links between the nodes rise.

Adaptive Cycles: Fundamental Properties
There are three fundamental properties that determine adaptive cycles. The system’s potential available for change. The potential determines the range of future options. This property is the wealth of the system, in terms of resources, financial capital, and human capital, among other attributes.
The system’s internal control is the degree of connectivity between internal controls and processes. This attribute reflects the degree the controls’ flexibility or rigidity and their sensitivity to disturbance.
Adaptive capacity is the system’s resilience, an attribute that quantifies vulnerability to unexpected disturbances. This attribute is the opposite of vulnerability.

Good Afternoon Dear Fellow Storytellers

What part of myself can I turn digital in a way that it grows legs and goes places?

Storytelling – Are You Straying Off Topic? The Questions To Ask Yourself

Marrying Story To Purpose: A Perfect Romance

Everyone’s got a narrative up their sleeve. Anything can become a story.

But they are not all created equal in their potency or effectiveness. Nor will just any story told any-which-way enhance the delivery and a solid landing of your marketing message.

Which ones are worthy? How will you tell yours in a way that supports the clarity of your message rather than dissipating or distracting from it?

Can you frame a story to fit your needs or will the story slyly attempt to make your needs fit it?

http://www.fateyes.com/marrying-story-and-purpose-for-a-perfect-romance/

Nothing New Here… Yet We Each Shape Our Own Twist

The use of storytelling in marketing isn’t a new convention or phenomenon. It’s a well-established and highly recommended form for good reason. This is primarily because it elicits an emotional response, a connection that allows us to tap into our humanity, our commonalities.

The act of recalling and sharing something that happened, that we’ve experienced or even a bit of suitable fiction enables our customers or clients to feel a sense of intimacy with us and our brand. Our brand story is created through all our behaviors and actions- everything our business represents and stands for, what we do both online and off.

Active storytelling on the other hand, the act of deliberately highlighting or telling a story to enhance our content, is an added benefit that allows our readers to get to know us, to feel they have an inside scoop to what we’re about. They instigate the sense that we are speaking directly to them personally as individuals. Which we actually are.

Stories open our hearts. They help our readers learn what matters to us, how we regard the world around us and our place in it.

We learn concepts, lessons and values more readily through story, parable, analogy, folk tale, myth, anecdote. We utilize storytelling to make a point, to teach a philosophy, demonstrate a method, make a suggestion, offer encouragement and inspiration. They are entertaining and educational.

Why I love Telling Stories

Like so many others, I understand the power stories hold but I also enjoy weaving them in to marry their heart and soul to my overriding message. It’s not that I have an over abundance of them, but when one occurs to me that illuminates a topic I feel is worth exploring, the process of storytelling is an exhilarating and satisfying creative experience.

In that process, there’s a singular kind of magic that occurs; I find myself entering into a delicious writing zone. One that opens up the edges and boundaries around a subject and allows my imagination to become lively and flourish. That internal energy seems to make its way into the piece and creates what I believe to be a more compelling, not so medicinal mix of informational absorption. Plainly put, it makes writing [and reading] what may potentially be dry marketing articles more fun and more digestible. And frankly, it helps me locate even deeper meaning and purpose than I might have. In turn, I hope that it encourages my readers to broaden their own interpretation and use of the material.

Walking That Skinny Precarious Line

How do we tread that fine line between allowing our creativity to percolate and steam while still managing to stay on track, give useful information, responsibly approach topics that require logic, sequence, clarity and actionable information?

It’s some part technique, some part structure, some part passion and another part freedom or flow. And then yet another part: alchemy.

Most distinctly, it’s remaining loyal to the topic and not allowing the juice of the creative process to distract us away from our purpose. [My personal temptation.]

Good Morning Dear Googleverse Netizens

Collaborative Sensemaking, part 104: Performance

+ConversationLab Work Equation:
Performance = Trust * Network * Meeting * Task * Learning

The below image of dancers and musicians tells us with precision everything we need to know about performance.

As for trying to save as much baby and throwing out as much bathwater as possible, this:

Mindfulness, Sensemaking & Organizational Performance
"How could knowledge of sensemaking during organizational change contribute to the investigation of how sense is made of organizational perfomance?"
-- Richard Allen
Abstract:
Managers and organizational stakeholders are confronted by a range of stimuli, emotions, events, data, paradoxes and ambiguities in endeavouring to understand and make sense of change and the performance of their organizations. However, there is virtually no literature available on sensemaking within organizational performance.
Historically sensemaking literature has focused on unusual events, disasters and high reliability settings but there is now a sizeable body addressing sensemaking in strategic organizational change. This literature has been systematically reviewed because of its proximity to organizational performance and in order to assess how sensemaking in organizational performance could be investigated.
Sensemaking in individuals is triggered by the unusual and confounding and is concerned with how people construct meaning from this. While sensegiving is about the role played by leaders, or stakeholders, in generating, articulating and “selling” a construction or interpretation of events emerging from their own sensemaking process.
Mindfulness can be thought of as how sensemaking is realised and is about responding rather than reacting while using information, attentiveness and clues to make sense of what is happening. The sensemaking studies reviewed are dominated by work with middle managers who are seen by the authors as key organizational change agents.
Organizational actors come to sensemaking through mental maps, or schemata that can be re-configured through the sensemaking process often as a way of addressing paradox or equivocation. The view of sensemaking as inter-subjective, discursive and narrative dominates giving scope to managers to facilitate the process. Sensegiving and sensemaking intertwine dialectically in a process which sees sensemaking informing sensegiving and vice versa.
There is insufficient information on mindfulness and change to be able to assess it. In conclusion there are sufficient similarities between the processes of organizational change and organizational performance management to warrant its investigation from an inter-subjective, discursive and narrative sensemaking perspective.

Gaia: Golden Threads      http://goo.gl/nA5UC8

"People waking up, rediscovering themselves is a natural, biological, evolutionary process. During our awakening, we are presented with serendipituous opportunities for #meaningfulconnectivity and to respond and leverage by developing #intelligentbehavior .
This behavior when coordinated through digital platforms and anchored in local communities, can be focussed on rekindling fundamental principles of living systems.
Applying these principles, we can cocreate new artifacts, cultural artifacts and practices and whole future societies operating as resilient villages and regions, inhabited by vibrant, thriving people."
-- +John Kellden

Gaia: Vibrating, Shimmering
"I named her after the Greek equivalent of our Mother Earth, and this picture represents her incarnation, (birth) surrounded by an explosion of vibrating, shimmering energy. Her character affects everything, ……..as she changes so to will the landscape, creating a butterfly effect that sets in motion the end of the story. It was heavily influenced by how I see the human spirit; after losing my mother people often ask me what  I imagine comes afterwards, and my only answer is my belief in an endless energy, the circle I feel we are all a part of."

Humus, part 10: Gaia, Countryside, City, Digital

"When we heal the Earth, we heal ourselves."
-- David Orr

"When we rediscover our selves, we rediscover Gaia."
-- +John Kellden

There's a deep collective intention unfolding, It started with life on planet Gaia, and after a long, long time, people appeared amidst other lifeforms. Then cities appeared, out of which digital artifacts providing rich connectivity which we can use to rediscover ourselves and the planet, as if for the first time.

Gaia, Countryside and City as Three Stages of Humus
Each one of the three preceding stages, Gaia, Countryside and City have served to provide the soil, the humus, the ecosystem out of which the next stage, the next set of artifacts have sprouted.

Nurturing the Emergence of Ourselves
The next ten, twenty years, we are presented with an opportunity to close the first revolution of an ongoing spiral of unfolding life as well as a choice of nurturing the emergence of ourselves as both local and planetary stewards, rediscoverings our selves and what services we will choose to provide as a conscious, convivial species.

Your Imperfections Adds to Your Unique Beauty
The image of a Bonsai is chosen to as closely as possible remind us of our own intrinsic beauty, a beauty which includes stunted growth, imbalances, imperfections. Beauty has already saved the planet. We only need to rediscover and embrace it.

Yes, it's a bit on the saccharine and kumbayah side of things
Whenever you see a pithy quote added to a pretty picture, all these social media posts and regardless of their superficial function, what underlies is a deep, deep realization by those who create, post, share and notice them.

Google is an ideal platform for sharing pithy quotes on pretty pictures
By sharing, you are doing your part in the next step of our unfolding collective intelligence. Thank you in advance.___Good Evening, Dear Googleverse Netizens

Why slightly beyond? Because

learning, adapting, evolving

Your own instantiation of a database, your own body of knowledge, remains your own, regardless if Google or FB or Twitter is squirreling away, siphoning off, draining some part of it...

Your shared display can be as simple as a growing, evolving mindmap, where you need to decide for yourself, what part remains private, and what parts results in win-win-win, when shared.

Your comment stream, what public stream, what circles, communities and comment threads to participate in, follows from the preceding two steps.

The above might come across as a bit too technical, but it really isnt't. I've outlined large chunks of the above for myself, using primarily pen and paper. (of course, pen and paper IS technology, but you all get what I mean... :)  )

Oldie goldie post and comment thread

+Sakari Maaranen :
I think +John Kellden is posting too much. But that's just what I think. They're great posts. Don't you think?

+Joachim Stroh :
As long as John is not becoming a (serious) coffee addict this is ok. You can always adjust your information filters, n'est-ce pas? What we should do is to move stuff from our short-term memory here in the stream into a longer-term memory space.

+Susan Cox :
I think John's posts are always provocative and inspiring....images amazing. TOO MUCH is pretty subjective.....afterall it is for the gandchildren...we don't HAVE to read them.

+Sakari Maaranen :
I AM going to read them anyway... they're just too good.

+Marcy Luikart :
It is funny that you posted this +Sakari Maaranen
I was thinking that I must be missing a lot of interesting conversations  because I can't seem to process all the posts in my brain/life/day.  But I think they do come around again and again.  I was thinking more along the lines of how can it be better organized.  It may not be possible in this type of venue, but I definitely can't keep up.  :)
Maybe we can have a topic day or focus.

+Colin Kilburn :
I noticed a theme and his words are like the morning news - interesting if you have time and he will drop a bomb of recursion once in a while ... jk is feeding many minds, and takes it seriously without forcing anyone - honest and prolific so far .. continue on .
Saint John, be cool, they'll follow your rule uw el - Aerosmith

+Sakari Maaranen :
John is in his own class... I have a special spam filter for him, to never classify his posts as spam. My only worry is that I only have time to read some of them. :)

+John Kellden :
This is good feedback.

Would it help at all if I outlined one of the reasons being

#rhizome

the related media model being

#some2some

where there's multiple entry, connectivity and exit points?

Trust serendipity and let go of the notion of having to read all the content.

I am still working on a very small set of

#hashtags

which would enable a near automagical finding of good, conversation worthy threads, as well as affording shared understanding.
However, this is simplicity beyond complexity, and very very difficult to get right.

Meanwhile, there's a Dynamic Synopsis available:
https://plus.google.com/u/0/101010252943098026073/posts/5nLywwfkeeP

Clay Shirky has some great insights here as well, wrt to the need to constantly improve our filters:

+Sakari Maaranen :
+John Kellden you're still the only person who I have met in a G+ hangout. I'm not sure if it's a coincidence, but I can be picky of whom I hang out with. Sure I meet many people in person IRL, but that's another thing.

+John Kellden :
+Colin Kilburn Aerosmith!  +10 at least!  :)

+John Kellden :
Those are great ideas +Marcy Luikart - other than going directly against the four Conversation Community guidelines - in the Guidelines topic, most everyhing else can be conversed around, suggested, tested, engaged with, meeting others through, and much more...

There's so many great people here already, and if I would do justice to all of you, I would need to post five times as much, at least.

+John Kellden :
Thanks much +Susan Cox - one of the most important reasons is #sparkle - which is all about being unreasonably authentically ourselves, to the benefit of everyone else, grandchildren included!  :)

+Marcy Luikart :
+John Kellden
Oh Guidelines!  Man Made to be sure.  :)

+John Kellden :
+Joachim Stroh on that note, I have an idea or two I'd like to bounce - related to collaborative sensemaking applied, as collaborative weaving, editing and producing, eg artifacts, and how to turn that into a literacy in its own right, with side-benefits for both memory and decision quality.

+kevin jones :
+John Kellden digest maybe

+John Kellden :
+Marcy Luikart only choice conversations served here :)

Seriously though - there's almost always unwritten, tacit rules and behaviors developing in digital spaces like this, for a number of reasons, which eg makes it difficult for newbies to understand what's going on, and fight their way to a place at the table, and get acknowledged....

Which is one of the reasons why I'm working on a Conversation Community

#folksonomy

to render what is mostly a tacit, self-organized process, slightly more open and transparent.

The folksonomy kind of already exists, if we would imagine every word posted in here being a hashtag already.

+Jeffrey Anthony :
I find the volume of posting challenged me to wonder where my frustration was coming from, realizing that I want to learn/absorb but have limitations that frustrate me.  It's not that there's too many posts, it's that I have too much on my plate.  Fear of missing out because we can't consume it all perhaps?    I'm mostly afraid of getting myself lost in the interesting material.  A blessing of overabundance.  :)

+John Kellden :
That's a good idea +kevin jones - I'm testing the digest idea from time to time, eg here:

Shared Understanding: Diagrammatics
https://plus.google.com/u/0/101010252943098026073/posts/Yyv7zUj9vQz

which is a synthesis of ten related posts.

I'm also returning to and remixing old posts, one of the reasons is so as to showcase it is possible to decouple ourselves from the "stream" - from the need to keep up with everything.

+Colin Kilburn :
automagical - my favorite move ;)
good context is everything as no one framework should rule the fractals called humanity - other then fairness of being.  Make change - make waves - make change  .... resonate.

Oh and something about the #teahousesequence device ... it takes no quarters - LZ

+Sakari Maaranen :
I have noticed and I like the fact that you repeat worthwhile posts +John Kellden. The good stuff is most definitely worth resurfacing again and again. I hope we keep repeating our best lessons for a thousand years and more.

+John Kellden :
+Jeffrey Anthony fwiw, I'm frustrated as well,  eg right now, there's great conversations happening in at least ten other communities which I'm also a member - but the design of Google+ makes it almost impossible for me to participate as much I would want.

We're all in the midst of a great action learning, experiential learning, informal learning experiment!

+John Kellden :
Good to hear +Sakari Maaranen - you are performing an invaluable service to the Conversation Community as well, not in the least with posts like this, being courageous enough to ask questions that others often shy away from.

Oh, and on the eternal importance perspective, I'd like to post much more about #humus and walking gently on Gaia, so as to being able to hand over a decent biosphere to our children. It's just that the whole ecology, biology, ecosystems field is so fragmented, I would need to post much much more to even begin to move closer towards design synthesis...

+kevin jones :
Less volume equals less noise.

+Jeffrey Anthony :
I love g+, i have volume controls.  :)

+Sakari Maaranen :
+kevin jones but potentially also less signal...

+Susan Cox :
+John Kellden to me there are not too many...like Sakari says we get anxious about reading them ALL. My social inbox is filled with you....I randomly pick one when I have time to check it out...what I have found is what I found in my own work...saying a thing 4 different ways repeating and reframing core concepts then weaving them all together insures people get it when they are ready to. I save them and look back at them sometimes.

+Jeffrey Anthony :
You know... i was driving around a little this morning, and had the cb radio to 19, trucker's channel of course...  and i kicked down the squelch.  Tons of static, but not just that, parts of conversations...  a southern drawl singing some bawdy tune, talk about where the police were (and from the sound of it, around 14 miles away...  impressive for CB)  It was it's own strange broken feed to gleam little tidbits of a busy and interesting life around us that we usually miss.

+John Kellden :
A great story +Jeffrey Anthony

+Susan Cox :
+Jeffrey Anthony to me your story is a poignant metaphor for the life... the "civilization" in which we participate....unconscious children blasting out every single stimuli that comes to mind...filtering out the deep resonance is harder then (that is why I live in Santa Fe and not Manhattan...the blaring stimuli of THE CITY on every level made me into someone I wasn't and I had to remove myself so I could BE.
How do we develop a filter....
I feel like conversation is a safe haven where we choose to be civil and thoughtful where we support and share and do so consciously (mind body spirit engaged)
I don't even want to be in other communities but thanks +John Kelldon for filtering through them....I trust your lead.

+Colin Kilburn :
+Susan Cox  if you have the time .... to follow John.  He has good assumptions, not all I'm sure.  no one is perfect.  He has got plugged in... to a great feedback system, he loves that, we all do ... ...

+Susan Cox :
+Colin Kilburn time is always a challenge...I keep all the Conversation posts and select one I have time for...it means I always have rolling conversations....to get grounded in the present of a conversation I just go through comments and then if I have one share my point of view. In my inbox I have about 70 conversations right now...

"When the student is ready a teacher appears..."

thats my core belief so I don't feel overwhelmed

+Colin Kilburn :
+Susan Cox I find it difficult to offend you - that is nice. Thanks.  And I am both teacher and student - we all are really ;P

I have to be careful to follow the threads that have sleeves rolled up science behind them, hopefully needing me and some others to play along.

I build or get bored - I need real successful employ soon or I will be poor and bored.  Hopeless perhaps in the little manual labour town I live.  Smart people seem to ... leave. ??

John is a job I can't afford FT right now, so I dip and hope I get noticed. It is deep deep in there and he reveals as he goes, fine tuning the feedback system and plotting the next mission.   methodical-meta-man ... i suspect he is saying. I hope he is loving it. I consider it as a time consuming mind stretching hobby.

But I am a long thinker so I am not passing any judgements or final answers.  Perhaps I am a bit off course as I am not getting any real engineering connections that are in the art of it all.  I see it in ppl, though I have nothing substantial to contribute, no company assets, just me and a magic black box i built.

And it is a setup when dealing with million dollar guys, a setup to be used as a cog and nothing more.

Engineers are tools in themselves and work themselves out of a job done right.  So I need real human neural stimulus to be understood and feel breathed, spoken and shakenspeare.- not easy - but here perhaps...

No mame sir (sir was cheeky and a compliment none the less), my engineer hat is in the back set with two-ply duct tape; the artist is driving madly off in all directions ....  I do like the interaction ...

I am about to go whale again ... in the code and home repairs.  No yachts here I am afraid. Why not??? freaky cosmic lottery I guess.  Suffer through it is then ...  Deep in the code. Could be gone for a day or two ...

I am so privileged I whine ;)

+John Kellden :

7:00 PM Film Screening GMO OMG

ABOUT THE FILM

GMO OMG director and concerned father Jeremy Seifert is in search of answers. How do GMOs affect our children, the health of our planet, and our freedom of choice? And perhaps the ultimate question, which Seifert tests himself: is it even possible to reject the food system currently in place, or have we lost something we can’t gain back? These and other questions take Seifert on a journey from his family’s table to Haiti, Paris, Norway, and the lobby of agra-giant Monsanto, from which he is unceremoniously ejected. Along the way we gain insight into a question that is of growing concern to citizens the world over: what's on your plate?

Suggested $10 donation adult / $5 children 10 & under.

Space is limited. Please RSVP (info@urbanhomestead.org or text/call 626.765.5704.

Good Morning and Good Afternoon Fellow Pointillists

This here particular post represents a somewhat turquoise pixel in the Seurat stream.  :)

Just trying to make a point.  :)

Which particular pixel and what color are you today?   :)

The Art of Seurat: Science and Pointillism

After winding through the bucolic Dutch countryside, two bus loads of scientists were disgorged at the Kröller-Müller Art Museum in Otterlo, hoping for a dose of culture to leaven our week-long immersion in research (on ATP-driven pumps; http://p-atpases.org/). To our delight, the museum was hosting the work of Georges Seurat, the master of pointillism. Fittingly, Seurat once said, Some say they see poetry in my paintings; I see only science.

What's the Point?: In contrast to traditional methods that mix pigments, pointillism is a technique where dots of pure color are applied, allowing the eye and the mind to blend the colors to give a richer and brighter effect. Although the term was first used to ridicule the technique, pointillism (also called divisionalism) gained credibility by the end of the 19th century, giving rise to neo-impressionism, cubism and modern art, and influencing other artists like van Gogh and Matisse.  Seurat's most famous work showcasing pointillism is A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte – 1884 (http://goo.gl/WXcS48). Estimated to be made up of ~3.5 million dots, it took nearly 2 years to complete!

A closer look reveals individual dots of blue, green, yellow and even red in the water, which give the impression of changing, shimmering color as the viewer moves towards the canvas. Our brains blend the dots into a color that is not actually there.  When pigments are mixed, they absorb light. By avoiding mixing, there is no subtractive effect and colors appear brighter. The white canvas between dots enhances this effect.

The inner rings in the animated circles a and b appear to be different colors: pink or orange. But it's just an illusion - revealed when the surrounding circles are stripped away. Notice also that the color surrounding the inner circles in a and c, or b and d, is the same, but the frequency of concentric rings is different, altering our color perception.

Points to Pixels: Never could Seurat have guessed that the principles behind pointillism would be so widely used in modern technology- computer and television screens light up individual pixels colored in RGB (red, green, blue) and printers deposit CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, and Key or black) dyes. We are all pointillists now!

Natural Light Painting
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Currently I'm stuck in Klaustur. The breaks of my car decided to strike and so I have to stay in this little village in south Iceland (also know as Kirkjubæjarklaustur) for at least two days. With 120 inhabitants it is nevertheless the biggest village between Vík and Höfn and has a car repair service.

This gives me some time to look through my pictures from the last days, including this shot from Jökulsarlón with Northern Lights and the reddish glow from the Holuhraun eruption on the other side of the Vatnajökull glacier. A very special and unique moment to me. We all know the amazing light painting techniques. But this is natural light painting at its best.

What do you think?

Southampton, UK and the Beauty of Twitter Chatter
Once a couple of gazillion dancing wu li typing fingers have done their worst, what emerges is beautiful. At least if looked at just so.

Monkey Minds, Typewriters & Generativity
Outlined as a generative sequence, it is all very simple:

gather, diverge, emerge, converge, celebrate

Gather
We, the digitally literate, the embodied spirits gathering in the 21C London Coffeeshops, disguised as Facebook, Twitter and Google+.

Diverge
Embodied spirits equipped with dancing wu li typing fingers.

Emerge
A collectively intelligent discourse:

catgifs, selfies, content marketing

Which is a very wise, robust, resilient comms protocol - catgifs is for signalling harmlessness towards other Googleverse Netizens in the Digital Village. Selfies is to help others figure out who we are as digital selves.

Converge
Content marketing delivers an invaluable third part of the comms protocol - a scaffolding of desire lines, through the village parks and between the various village squares.

Celebrate: Emerging Beauty and Unfolding Wholeness
The truth is, all cities are at least as beautiful as Southampton, UK - it's just that most of the city dwellers are not fully aware of the extent to which their analog hollering to each other on a busy New York construction site, or a group of Mountaineers gathering at Sagarmatha Café, Lukla Airport, Nepal, is part, parcel and parsing of a much larger, planetary discourse in the making - an unfolding wholeness, a beauty only waiting for its participants to rediscover, hiding in plain sight.

Conversational Gems
Until we all rediscover our own unalienable beauty in the here and now, here's some choice conversations mined from the Members in the Conversation Community - proud purveyor of mindful metalogue since Nov 2012:

1: Problems
If there's problems in our lives, it's a sign we're happening magic, slightly beyond our contentment zone.

2: Solutions
If we keep part of our hearts open and our heads empty, between them there unfolds solutions, provided we've edged ourselves close enough to the problems off course.

3: Building Blocks
Life is like LEGO. Now and Zen you find small sharp pieces right underneath your feet. This is cause of much happiness, since it tells us two things: we feel something and thus we can firmly attest to being alive - two, we have found yet another small part of The Puzzle, or The Millennium Falcon, or whatever Big Idea it is our calling to build.

4: Context
Context can be essentialized down to a simple Tea House Sequence:

synthesis, selfhood, service

One of the interesting things about life is that synthesis is something we need to work towards. Our own selves is a journey of rediscovery. Once we've glimpsed any which big picture resonant with ourselves, we proceed to serve.

5: Participatory Sensemaking
This is one of the best parts. We get to engage in Battul!
Battle of Attention, Battle of Skillful Will, Battle of Scenius, Performance and Spell Binding Audiences and - Battle of Legacy and Immortality. What more do we want? What could possibly be more fun and rewarding than this?

6: Theories, Models, Galore
All models are worth exactly 0.02 of whatever designated currency you are enthralled with, for the duration of your modelling career. As of now, there's one gazillion different models and theories to choose from - a causal, cognitive, relational, social, actional smorgasbord of ideas. When it comes to ideas, I plead Altucher.

7: Metatags
Around fifteen different, relevant for augmenting contextual intelligence, will do nicely. All fifteen, and then some, are for #recursion  -  which means we're back at item #1 - Or #3 perhaps...

Somewhere on a smartphone screen near you, moving around on a small planet, there's a brand new Monday already happening, offering us new words and images, triggering our Dancing Wu Li Typing Fingers, catalyzing our own unique voice, which when shared is making a small yet beautiful dent in our corner of the universe.

HoA: Conversations that Mind and Matter

A conversation with
+Zara Altair +Kristin Drysdale +David Wells & +John Kellden

In this inaugural #FabGangOfFour   send, we will talk about
- email
- inboxes and
- social media streams

as three popular pastimes - and provide personal insights and perspectives towards seeing and using all three a little bit differently.

We love to figure some thinks out and move forward

In this send, we will talk about:
- email, inboxes, social media streams and why we like these three things so much
-

"I'm out on my porch every day--sun, rain, snow--to watch the wildlife around me. Get buzzed by the hummingbirds. The robin gives me a low fly-by greeting. Hawks and the occasional eagle soar overhead. I live in a Nature Channel."
--  +Zara Altair

"Probably the greatest thing I've learned thus far in my journey in Social Media is that much of what we share and to what extent it resonates with others depends on how we position ourselves and frame our content. The more we learn to be vulnerable and open to sharing our stories to frame what we share, the deeper our connections can grow. Life is too short for shallow relationships; instead, let's go deep."
-- +Kristin Drysdale

"I see things in ways most people seem not to, and marvel at how everything is connected.
I'm interested in social reform and breaking down the barriers that seem to be holding our species back from its potential."
--  +David Wells

"In a network, the best place to store knowledge is in other people."
-- +John Kellden

21C Stewardship: Reclaim

This TED Talk is truly excellent and worth your time, or save until later.

There is a corruption at the heart of American politics, caused by the dependence of Congressional candidates on funding from the tiniest percentage of citizens. That's the argument at the core of this blistering talk by legal scholar Lawrence Lessig. With rapid-fire visuals, he shows how the funding process weakens the Republic in the most fundamental way, and issues a rallying bipartisan cry that will resonate with many in the U.S. and beyond.
