Sometimes when it's dreary and you've got a lot of chores and just can't go out, you take photos of what's at hand.

This leaf isn't actually very big - it's just a Japanese Cherry.  But I like all the striations in the leaf from the backlighting, it's like microbes in a raindrop - a reminder that our world, our universe, is awesome in the macro -- and the micro sense of the word.

Just writing this post reminds me of one of my favorite quotes of all time - and I don't mean to be posting a lame thoughtful quote with a photo, but it just got me thinking of it;  by William Blake:

"When the windows of perception are cleansed, man will see the universe as it truly is, infinite."

The world feels so alive this morning.

Having just returned from driving my fiancée to work, I find myself reflecting on the things I noticed in the morning sun. The beautiful clouds and dew-covered grass, and the first dandelions of the year going to seed. Mourning doves perched on a wire, watching us scramble like crazy ants getting from point A to B.

I also noticed very intense emotions in the sky; I can only assume a large raven raided the nest of a smaller bird, with something clearly in its mouth. The smaller birds were attacking the larger predator, defending their home, family and future. Meanwhile, a few Canada Geese graze on roadside grass and a mix of unidentified birds fill the air with morning chatter I hear through my open car window.

Night Light... Donner Lake, 1am, Truckee, California

A good night light makes you feel safer. Lets you see in the dark. Is discreet and doesn't sear your eyeballs out of their sockets if you have to get up in the middle of the night and don't want to run into the door frame.

A good night light kisses you on the forehead and says quite tenderly; "It's time to sleep, sweet thing. Good night." And you always reply "'Night, light. Sweet dreams."

A good night light is timeless.

squeeze it in

this is the world's largest Tiffany glass dome , inside the Chicago Cultural Center's Preston Bradley Hall.  The dome is 38 feet in diameter.... I couldn't get right underneath the dome because there was a piano recital in progress... So I tried my best to squeeze a much detail in as possible (needed an even wider lens, this was taken at 24mm)
