New photo from my us trip. This time a seascape -> second beach. I had three days in La Push right next to this wonderful beach but the weather just wouldn't cooperate. I'm glad that at least on day one we had some sun there. Even without clouds and with incomming tide I'm glad we went there after our arduous travel day.

Another photo from my US Trip. This shows the famous Multnomah falls in the columbia River Gorge. I didn't have to walk far for this photo. This was taken right from the large parking lot. I thought it's a nice scene with the green trees framing part of the falls. Hope you like it.

New work from my US Trip on 500px -> Columbia River Gorge at it's best. From all the places we visited the two days in the gorge were my favourites. Now I understand how the oregon photographers always capture such awesome photography. Well the area there is just awesome !!

I have just returned from a trip to the west coast of the USA. So there will be a lot of new photos I'll show over the next few weeks. Although I didn't have one colorful sunset due to the fog layer at the horizon just a few miles off the coast or right at the coast ( ruined all my plans for the Olympic National Park btw) I came back with quite some photos that I like.
This one I took during the maybe 5-10 minutes of shade we had in the Hoh rainforest. Else there was only harsh sunlight the whole three days we were up there. I got fooled twice by the thick fog at the coast and so took my time to get to the hoh. If only I had gone early in the morning. Twice as I drove to the hoh just a few miles before reaching the forst the thick clouds suddenly stopped and direct sun hit the forest. This took away a lot of Hoh's magic.
But enough complaints, we still had a great time up... more »

Pouring rain and 9 hours of waterfall photography in the german black forest yesterday. I took only a few photos since I was leading my first workshop there but here I just couldn't resist. Such great colors.
I hope to see some more of it in a few weeks in the columbia River Gorge. Can't wait to finally shoot there.

All those bracketed exposures taken for dynamic range that evening. In the end I used only one exposure. The wind was up and it was impossible to get the leaves and branches of the tree align in the different exposures. So I prcessed one relatively dark exposure shot at ISO320 for shadows and for highlights in LR4 and then blended it in PS. Sure I got a lot of noise but I was able to reduce it very effectively by selective noise reduction. Nik Dfine was a great help here and then I also used some creative blurring on the tree to make the details look less chunky. A tutorial can be found on my youtube channel -> Post Processing Tip - Creative Blur

Now this is handy. When somebody wants to license one of your photos and you start to think about how to formulate a license text this generator might come in handy:
http://www.useplus.com/pluslicensegenerator/Steps/Start.aspx
The result is also meant to be embedded in a photo but it's also good to go through the different license terms and get together the right text.
Also if you have an agreement to sign the glossary might be handy to translate some terms into understandable words

I just finished processing a little panorama of some spring greenery from last year.
It's very important for me, that my photos hold up against a closer inspection and don't only look sharp on the web. This is why I employ some special sharpening for my prints. But not only the final sharpening is important, but I have to make sure to keep the fine details throughout my complete post processing workflow and also that I don't introduce noise or artefacts throughout the process. My start2finish tutorial shows my complete workflow to get clean results -> http://mibreit-photo.com/blog/?p=963

A photo from last summer, twilight at Giants Causeway. It was wonderfully calm there, the only time at day to have this scene for oneself. In the evening the light was better but there were also hundreds of people. At 4am in the morning it was only me and some gulls :-)

Just a thing I'm wondering about. Many of you are using 500px, which I like a lot, and I also see many people using the store option.
I removed all my photos from the store as soon as I read what personal license means in the download option. First I thought people buy an image to use as wallpaper and I'm fine with that. But it also means one can put the image on his personal homepage. Well no problem if it's not commercial, but really? Do I want my photos spread accross homepages without a reference to me as the photographer?
My answer is no. Would be interested in your opinions and if you are aware of this. Or did I understand something wrong...
cheers

Working on this photo today was really driving me nuts. I had 15 frames to work with during the blending > focus stacking, exposure blending for the sunstar and sky, removal of lense flares ... Maybe the hardest blending I did, but the result looks very clean :-) should even look good printed large.
I took this photo on Corsica last october, a beautiful island.

So this is funny. Some person on deviantart steals my images and my identity. Here's the fake profile
http://michaelbreituno.deviantart.com/
I get an account there to report this user and what happens: The DA users accuse me of image theft and being a fake account. What a world we live in.
So if anybody is at DA please add me there so I have some people around who know I'm the real Michael Breitung ;-) Below is the real profile, I have just created.

This is my favourite photo of Prague. I had it now lying on my harddrive for half a year to finally feel inspired enough to process it. It was taken last summer on my first trip to prague since more than 10 years. We had a lot of rain and grey skies but on our second day right for sunset the sky cleared a bit and revealed those beautiful colors.
I had first planned shooting from another vantage point into the other direction (there was no light anyway and I thought I'd do some blue hour photos instead). But on my way there I saw a white line at the horizon, a gap in the grey. So we went to this view - I had sean it on a postcard and knew that there is potential for a reflection. I was the first photographer there, but one after one more arrived as they saw the sunset unfold. It was magical.
This was the last photo I took, a panorama from 2 horizontal frames. I wanted the sunset... more »

Uploaded some new work on 500px. Some not so easy focus stacking was needed for this one to get everything as sharp as possible. The transition between the fg bushes and the middleground was a lot work since the focus didn't reach far enough. some happy masking in photoshop :-)

I was planning to photograph the Partnachklamm in winter for a long time now. I had been there three years ago and it was beautiful. Last sunday I finally went to this world of ice again. It wasn't as much ice as three years ago but still beautiful. At one part of the gorge I even got lucky with the light. For a few seconds the sun was showing over the rim and I was able to snap a photo.
