One of the brightest explosions observed on the Moon on March 17, 2013

"For the past 8 years, NASA astronomers have been monitoring the Moon for signs of explosions caused by meteoroids hitting the lunar surface. "Lunar meteor showers" have turned out to be more common than anyone expected, with hundreds of detectable impacts occurring every year.

They've just seen the biggest explosion in the history of the program.

"On March 17, 2013, an object about the size of a small boulder hit the lunar surface in Mare Imbrium," says Bill Cooke of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office. "It exploded in a flash nearly 10 times as bright as anything we've ever seen before."

Russia Detains Accused Undercover CIA Operative in Moscow [Update]

Russia's Federal Security Service has detained an American citizen who is being accused of trying to recruit a Russian intelligence officer to work for the CIA.

Ryan Fogle, who was working at the American Embassy, was also supposedly an undercover CIA operative, who, according to the Russians, was detained while carrying a great deal of money, and a letter filled with instructions for the Russian he was trying to flip to the CIA.

The U.S. Embassy has yet to comment on the situation.

The Russians claim that Fogle also was in possession "special technical equipment" and the "means for changing one's appearance" (pictured below). He was detained Monday night and then handed over to U.S. officials Tuesday morning.

Pentagon accuses China of hacking US defence networks

China is spying on the United States to fuel its fast-paced military modernisation programme, according to the Pentagon.

It is the first time Washington has directly accused Beijing of mounting a cyber-espionage campaign.

The US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, David Helvey, said: "China's military continues to explore the role of military operations in cyberspace as a feature of modern warfare. In addition, in 2012, numerous computer systems around the world, including those owned by the United States government, continued to be targeted for intrusions, some of which appear to be attributable directly to China's government and military organisations."

Israeli official confirms second air strike at Syria

A series of explosions rocked the outskirts of the Syrian capital Damascus on Saturday night.

A senior Israeli official has confirmed Israeli war planes launched an air strike at Syria - the second attack in a few days.

The source said the target had been a shipment of Iranian-made missiles ready to be sent to Hezbollah, the militant group in Lebanon.

Syria's state run television claimed a military research facility was struck just north of the capital causing numerous casualties.

The Jamraya centre is the same military complex which was hit by Israel in another assault in January. 

Western intelligence sources say several blasts hit Jamraya as well as a nearby ammunition depot.

2 More Grad Students Claim To Find Another Flaw In Reinhart-Rogoff Research

Like Scooby-Doo villains, Carmen Reinhart and Kenneth Rogoff keep getting done in by meddling kids.

"First, University of Massachusetts-Amherst grad student Thomas Herndon shot holes in their influential research paper, "Growth In A Time Of Debt," by pointing out several mistakes and omissions the Harvard economists had made. Now, two PhD students at the University of Missouri-Kansas City have a new paper that they say finds another flaw in that same research.

The students argue that Reinhart and Rogoff's paper leaned too heavily on data from one country, Japan, leading to all sorts of bad conclusions about the relationship between government debt and economic growth.
