I didn’t know you until you were about 16 months old, but I loved you the minute I met you. I don’t remember the date, but I do remember you coming to my house, nudging me as we sat together on the floor, and stealing my heart that very minute.
I wasn’t planning on having kids, so you were my kid; my larger than life, super smart, mischievous kid. You’d beg for food, and when I was at work, you’d find a way to get into the sugar, the butter, the cookies, whatever. No matter how well I hid it, you still managed to find and eat it moving whatever got in your path along the way.

The Hand that Holds My Heart

I will never tire of seeing this hand print. It is sometimes rushed, often messy, and always colorful. Every year, for six years now, comes art project after art project, many bearing an imprint of her hand. And every one of them makes me so happy to see her her growing and learning and living and moving closer to who she will ultimately become. It's pretty amazing... :)

Reflections At Daybreak

This photo was taken on my wedding anniversary, October 19th, as we were driving to Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa for a violin clinic for my daughter. My long suffering family will do just about anything to help me get a good shot, including getting up a little earlier and sitting in a cold car while I wait for the sun to come up. Every time I look at this shot, I'm reminded just how lucky I am. :)

(Just Like) Starting Over

Happy New Year! 2012 was filled with surprises, joy, disappointment and many other assorted events and associated emotions, just as any well lived year should be. I had a failed attempt at a 365 project, but I also learned a great deal in the process. So, since the new year has arrived, I'm going to try once again to complete the #365project2013 . Starting with today, day number one, I thought I'd celebrate new beginnings, old friends and the desire to never give up. Cheers to you and your loved ones and wishing you accomplish whatever you set out to do in 2013!

Ok, so +Alex Grossman  challenged us to compile a personal Top 100 list for our music lovers community, and I decided to take the challenge. I used Spotify as I brainstormed,  typing in songs/artists that are among my favorites, that I was reminded of as peripheral favorites when looking at results, and more than a few that I came across accidentally but that are seem so culturally relevant to my history and the person I have become that I felt I had to include them. 
It was hard to compile this list since musical taste  is often so subjective, even individually. What I want to hear today might be vastly different from what I’m in the mood to listen to tomorrow. Also, I ran into a few problems using Spotify to make the list. Among them, the service,  A. is not available to everyone,  B. is not free to everyone, and C. does not include many artists for varying reasons.  While I include a linkto the p... more »

Renewal

I live along the East Coast of the US, and although I managed to escape hurricane Sandy with just some roof damage, many others were not so lucky. It's been difficult reading reports about and seeing images of the devastation. And certainly, the cleanup and rebuilding will take a very long time.. On the bright side, however, there are so many people opening their homes, donating goods, money, time and services, and just pitching in whenever and however they can, that my faith in humanity, even as imperfect as we are, has once again been renewed.

Steady

I went out yesterday looking for some shots because I'm pretty sure #hurricanesandy  is going to ruin my chances for landscape shots today and tomorrow (talk about first world problems! ;) Anyway, yesterday it was dreary and damp, and already today the winds and rain have picked up. I'm in the storm's path, but hopefully far enough away from water that it won't be too much trouble. To all those on the East Coast, please stay safe.

Mountain Of Mums

In the fall very year, for longer than I can remember, a local nursery, called Ott's Exotic Plants, has cultivated this 'mountain' of mums. You can climb to the top, look down over the glorious colors, and revel in the beauty the season provides. Best of all, it's free (as long as you can pull yourself away from the mums for sale, that is ;)
