Fraumünster Church - Zurich, Switzerland

Yes, I still am working on photos from my Switzerland trip. This is a shot of Fraumünster Church on the Limmat River. There are so many photo opps along the Limmat River you could spend a week and still not capture everything. This is one of my favorite shots I took in Zurich.

I have never done this but I am calling on the power of Google+ to help out a local Ultimate Frisbee Youth team called Brookwood Inferno. They have entered a contest to win some training equipment using a photo I took at a tournament. They get 1point for likes, 2 points for comments and 3 points for shares. Please click on the link then the photo and like it, comment and share it. Let's see what kind of power Google+ has! Thanks!

I have been up countless valleys and viewed mountains of all shapes and heights, but have never come across any like the Matterhorn. Like a pyramid it stands over this glacier lake. Words just does not do it justice!

SCHILTHORN, SWITZERLAND

The revolving restaurant on this 2900m mountain in the Swiss Alps is a wonderful spot to take in the beauty of the Swiss Alps. It was used in the filming of On Her Majesty's Secret Service, a James Bond film (provided this time by George Lazenby). Filming at the restaurant, which was then not completed, was only allowed on condition that the film company contribute towards construction costs. The Piz Gloria restaurant is still going (and rotating) strong today. You can sample a James Bond buffet and there's even a ski run leading off from here, just like the film. Her Majesty would surely approve!

Lakewood, Washington

I spent some time up in Washington with my family over Christmas and was able to spend a day shooting in the cold drizzle. Here is a shot from their dock on the lake at sunrise. Mt. Rainier was off to the left but was completely covered with clouds the entire trip. I am planning a 7 day trip driving down the Pacific coast soon and will have to make a detour to Mt. Rainier.

At the Michael Kenna exhibit at The Tacoma Art Museum. Michael Kenna has some amazing work on display here. With that being said I remember why I don't like going to these exhibits The snooty folks running the exhibits are dreadful. You can get ten times the exposure on line than you can at a museum. Still Kenna's work is amazing.

I was not brought up with photography and I did not go to school to learn photography. I have learned by talking to other photographers and taking tips from anyone that would give me the opportunity to ask a question. This was way before Al Gore invited the internet... :) Back in the day you would have to go to exhibits to view the work of great photographers. I was lucky enough to live in Las Vegas at the time and also know someone who was pretty high in the rankings with both Kodak and Fuji. So I attended a lot of those exhibits. You know have an unlimited amount of great photo exhibits at your fingertips on Google+. +Charles Lupica made this even easier for us by making a circle of the top followed photographers on Google+. Enjoy the exhibit!

                    Group 3: 192 to 250
    ════════════════════════════════════════

Here is the third part of my list of the top 500 most followed photographers - this time I have included the first circle of 250.

If you are on this list or in this circle, I urge you to comment with your specialty, plus and share the post. The next time I update the list, I would like to show your photographic specialty   If you do a bit of everything, simply note: electric or eclectic :-).

Last week I shared a list of the top 100 most followed photographers on G+. https://plus.google.com/u/0/103236949470535942612/posts/bqsL5BtVW2R

A few days I ago I share the second part of the list: https://plus.google.com/u/0/103236949470535942612/posts/2Bth5PpUhmv

Once I get to 500 photographers, I'll share this as a circle.

I have sifted through lots of pages and circles as well as http://circlecount.com/  to try to get an accurate list. If I'm missing anyone, please let me know.  I have specifically left off a few people who only share links to their content housed elsewhere,  people who share a lot of other peoples work without sharing their own, or people that appear to be inactive.

I will start with the tail end of the previous list.

Art on the Atlanta BeltLine

Photo opportunities sometimes just show up out of thin air. Kind of like a UFO does. I was photographing an Junior Ultimate League in Atlanta. When I see this UFO laying over on hill in the brush. Being the curious humanoid I am I had to take a look! When I came up over the hill I was not greeted by a little green guy with big eyes... but was greeted by the very friendly artist of this cool exhibit. His name is Cash Barnes and is just one of many artist who has a piece of art on the Atlanta BeltLine. Mr. Barnes is a metal fabricator from the Atlanta area and this is his first piece of art he has ever been contracted to create. So, since this is a crashed UFO obviously during processing I had visions of the 1940's in Roswell New Mexico and that was the look I was going for.

Folly Beach

The Folly Beach Edwin S. Taylor Pier is the centerpiece of Folly Beach. By name alone that would not be considered an exciting fact to new visitors. Perhaps that’s because “fishing pier” does not completely define it.

The Folly Beach Pier is 24 feet wide, extends more than 1,045 feet into the Atlantic Ocean, and is 23 feet above sea level. A 7,500 sq ft diamond shaped two level sheltered platform gives the pier a distinctive look. It is the second in size to only one other pier on the east coast.

The 31 square kilometer summit area of Mount Roraima is defined by 400 meter tall cliffs on all sides and includes the borders of Brazil, Venezuela, and Guyana. The tabletop mountains of the Pakaraima’s are considered some of the oldest geological formations on Earth, dating back to some two billion years ago. Magnolia Cemetery

This is an absolutely wonderful place. I have to admit this was my first time shooting in a cemetery....and I felt a little weirded out. Is weirded even a word? I'm getting off topic again...sorry. So I here I am walking around where there are thousands of souls at rest and I have my camera taking shots. Is that wrong?

It is a beautiful place though and with a lot of photo opportunities. if you are ever in that neck of the woods it is worth a stop. Even if you do not take any shots.

Do you post photos taken with your camera phone? I have usually just used it to send a photo through a text message. Then I spent a week taking only shots with my phone. I have to admit it was nice to not have to lug that big heavy DSLR around. It also made me really think about composition more. Plus I got a few great shots. This shot was posted straight from my phone with no processing at all. What do you say?

The Swamp Angel

The land you see in the distance is called Morris Island. In 1863 Union forces built a battery there and mounted an eight-inch Parrott rifle on the island named the Swamp Angel. The gun fired 150-pound shells at the city of Charleston, South Carolina nearly five miles away. The intentional bombardment of the civilian population shattered the city’s security. The Swamp Angel was destroyed when it exploded after its 36th round was fired. The massive gun was replaced by other guns and the bombardment continued for 18 more months. It’s amazing how men can turn such a beautiful scene like this into a place of horror.

The Bike

So, I am in Charleston, South Carolina for a few days and looking for a few great shots. There are many great subjects to choose from but what catches my eye? An old bike locked to a light pole at The Battery Park! I'm not sure why... but I like the finished product.

Here is a photo from the archives. I took this a Bush Gardens and just now processed it! I only have about 9,459 more to go. Anyway back to the photo. This was taken at the gorilla exhibit and this young lady decided to take a nap in view of my camera. I processed this in black and white... it sort of sets the mood.

I was shooting the 2012 Summit Chase Country Club Invitational this past weekend. It was a long hot day! I was able to squeeze in some beautiful landscape shots of the course. Here is one of the 17th Green looking back in to the fairway.

Google+ vs Facebook

I have a bet with a friend who says that he will get more facebook likes than I will get Google+ +1's on this link. So please click on the link and +1 it for me.  Don't let me down Google+ family! I do not want to have to buy  him lunch!

Sims Farm

So I decided to head out one late afternoon to find a spot to shoot a great sunset. It had rained all day and stopped a few hours before sunset so I knew it would be spectacular. My only problem was I had no spot in mind. I decide I would go to Fort Yargo State park when I spotted this great little farm. I decide to stop and ask if I could set up and take a few shots. I ran across a gentleman named Clay Sims and he was more than generous. You would have thought we have known each other for years. That is just how it is in the south. He invited me back to take photos so I will be posting more shots of this farm. This is a great little piece of heaven. Thanks again Mr. Sims!

Château Élan

If you wan to experience warm southern hospitality combined with the beauty of the French countryside then Château Élan is a place you need to visit.

The stunning scenes of Château Élan is located in the north Georgia foothills, just 40 minutes away from Atlanta. Château Élan began the planting of vineyards in 1981. Since then it has grown into a 3,500 acre conference and leisure destination where French provincial and Southern hospitality combine to produce exceptional wines and warm memories. Château Élan is a great place for a romantic weekend and maybe squeeze in a few photos if you can talk your better half into letting you bring your tripod. :)

Spring Moon

Stone Mountain has started to green up over the last couple of weeks. A great sky with the moon rising just before dark over the mountain was a bonus I did not plan for.

Field of Play

I was shooting my sons Football / Soccer game this past week. At the half I saw this ball sitting out all alone with the shadows closing in fast. I saw an opportunity for a cool photo so me being me I had to take advantage of it. This happens a lot to me. I am on a shoot and see something completely off task and I have to shoot it. I have learned that some of the best opportunity's are the ones that present themselves out of the blue. So my tip of the day is. If an opportunity presents itself, you better take the shot because it may not happen again for a long, long time. Because we always carry our camera with us. Don't we?
