Danial Hallock10,323No Name NeededIt's getting close to the Holiday Season, and the whole point of this particular part of the season is to "give thanks" to the people (or, in America, things) that have positively impacted your life.  For me, these are those people. You all should remember my initial circle The Three Hundred (http://goo.gl/kqE8h) which was well received at 251 +1s and 48 reshares.  This circle was my first round of hyper-vetting individuals for circling, based on a lot of criteria that was centered around high quality content and a high level of engagement.  I think I combed through about 2,300 profiles on a one-by-one basis before arriving at the final product. That circle then morphed into the The Collaborative Circle (http://goo.gl/Ex9ai) which was less publicized, but still racked in 90 +1s and 13 reshares.  This circle was based on the premise that "If four people from The Three Hundred enjoy person X, then I should also enjoy them."  Well, the combination of these circles lead to an interesting scenario in which I was able to locate all stars through a combination of overlap and relevance (via Google algorithms).  Out popped these twenty five individuals, and I could not be happier with the results.  These are twenty-five individuals in which I am subscribed, their posts are always enjoyable as well as insightful, and the notification stream keeps me engaged throughout the day.Whether you're looking at the tech news from +Mike Elgan, the social and scientific commentary of +Yonatan Zunger, or the general internet awesomeness that is the enigma of +Sarah Rios, you're not going to be disappointed.I normally only notify people that are contained within a circle, but these people are too awesome not to be guilty of a little plus-spam;  feel free to request a removal from the notified (all) circles.(Link to this post: http://goo.gl/AlsXG5) #nonameneeded   #circleshare   #sharingiscaring   #sharedcircle  2013-11-13 23:53:242639671CC G+

Jake Kern24,894The Silver DonutBeen wanting to do a circle share for a while, but I just haven't wanted to put in the work to get a group of 100 for another #GoldenDonut. Instead, I grabbed the top 500 from my Google relevancy algorithm. Then I removed a couple people who don't like being in circle shares & some pages so I could stretch the 500 a bit. (For instance, both +Melissa Bagley & +Melissa Ann Bagley Photography would be in the circle--in the top 25, actually--but I just included Melissa's personal profile even though you should circle both.)Many amazing people in here. Thank you for making this corner of the Internet worthwhile.Peace. #SilverDonut  2013-07-13 22:19:3849915024134CC G+
Mz Maau10,204I rarely share circles, and I regret to inform, this is not the promised #CircleDirk , rather, it's a circle I've been semi-maintaining since last spring, when it was created for +Pierce Arner to jump-start his Plus experience.Today, I'm resharing the current version on behalf of +Søren Dalsgaard Brath, who, like Pierce, is looking for new content for his stream.I figure he and I probably have a chunk of overlap, so I've added a few extras he might not yet know about. Some notes about the curation of this circle:I've tried to set aside those who have not posted recently, and I've tried to only include those who post publicly, or to extended circles.  I may have missed a few, and if you're in this circle and would like to be permanently removed, please let me know. This is not the final version, as I'm not sure such a thing is possible. This circle DOES come with a warning:You will, most likely, NOT enjoy everyone in this circle.  I, like many, have eclectic tastes, and I'm still a bit gun-shy after seeing some of the explosions from last year's crossing of the streams, so PLEASE, edit this circle to your liking with that in mind.If I ping you, you're in the circle.  There is no expectation or requirement to add this circle, it's merely a courtesy ping.  Again, if you would like to be removed from any future circle shares, please let me know. And yes, I promise, I'm still working on the #CircleDirk .Also note:  This is NOT an indication of who I like best, though some are included in this circle.  It is simply meant to be a sample of the diversity I follow.#PinkAndFluffyPersonsOfQuestionableRepute2013-06-22 16:38:09164143576CC G+

Melissa Bryan25,213Circles Everywhere!Over the past couple of days I have been shared in some really awesome circles.  It reminded me how long it's been since I shared one of my own.  And with all the new people around, I figured it might be helpful.  These 200 lovely plussers were chosen by google's magic as being the most relevant to me (minus a few pages and the people who don't use G+).  I went through them and can assure you that these are all top notch characters (well, mostly :p).  They definitely make google+ the amazing place that it is.  Just, be prepared for shenanigans.  If you were notified, you are in the circle.  I don't ever notify, so hopefully you guys don't mind this one.2013-05-18 18:18:01200157597CC G+

Blair Kunkel5,687ATTENTION - Since my original snowball circle(Share Circle #1) circle grew so fast it reached over 2,000 members!  It has been brought to my attention that each time the circle is shared and added to YOUR circles, you are only able to add under 500 people. SO...to make sure that this circle of awesome people continues to grow, I have divided all 2,000 members into 7 other share circles(so far) and each of those share circles 2-7 are starting out with 400 members each. That will allow each circle to snowball up to 100 more members each.  Once each of those circles reach 500 members, I will create a new share circle...and so on and so on.--------------------------------------------------Welcome to SHARE CIRCLE #2--------------------------------------------------Want to be added to this SNOWBALL CIRCLE and increase the number or your followers?  To be added to this circle you must do these things in this order:1.  You must PLUS the post.2.  You must SHARE the post.3.  You must ADD the circle.(Remember, you can only have 5,000 people in your circles overall so make sure you have the room to add everyone in this circle first)4   And lastly, you must comment below when you have done the three above to let me know.Just want to remind you that in order for me to add you to this circle you MUST share this circle.  I always check the activity and I see who shares it and also +1's it too. Marvel Fan Art - Hulk vs. Thing

Perhaps one of the longest running rivalries in Marvel Comics… in superhero comics as a whole, is The Incredible Hulk vs. The Thing. Going all the way back to Fantastic Four #12 and perhaps more significantly their full on battle in Fantastic Four #25. Hulk is clearly the stronger of the two (by a log way) although Thing has never quite been prepared to admit that fact.

This artwork by uncannyknack shows the two titans going one on one right in the middle of a city and while they’re both in good shape, everything else is collapsing around them.

Remarkably this powerful art is billed as a work in progress.

Book Review: The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie - http://amzn.to/1sxm3KX

This is the first book in a trilogy called The First Law and I should stress that it is not in itself a complete story. In fact, in many ways it reads more like a  prologue. A coming together of the cast and setting the stage before the story itself gets going.

That’s being a little harsh perhaps, but I didn’t find it a satisfying experience to read just this book so it’s worth noting. Be prepared to invest in all three books. And it is probably worth your time reading all three because this one has a lot to recommend it.

Now right before reading The Blade Itself I had just finished a re-read of The Lord Of The Rings (my first in a while) and so I couldn’t help comparing the two books while I was reading this one. And it’s quite a contrast.

While The Lord Of The Rings deals in heroic figures who are larger than life and better than the average man, The Blade Itself is populated with mean, petty, broken people. Aragorn and Frodo are the sort of people we might aspire to be, while the characters here are the sort we would look down on and judge wanting.

And yet, throughout the book and despite the horrible things that some of the characters do, there is a thread of hope of redemption running through Joe Abercrombie’s story. The suggestion that regardless of what they have done they can do something good. A detail that I think actually rings true in Tolkien’s work as well.

While unquestionably modern fantasy with all its grimdark trappings there are moments here where wondrous buildings are described and events are narrated where it sounds like just the sort of thing we might see in Middle-Earth. So we have an interesting melding of the classic high fantasy with the new gritty realism.

And the characters are very interesting and quite complex. You may well not like them very much and in some cases you may find that characters you thought were likeable turn out to be very flawed indeed. But for all that I found myself captivated by their lives and wondering how things were going to turn out for them.

Which is of course why it was so damn annoying that the book just ends. It’s not even a cliffhanger, it just ends.

There are clearly bigger elements being set up here. Corruption in the “Union”, Shanka (humanoid, apelike, goblin creatures) massing on the borders of the north; The Empire restive in the south and Eaters (people who have eaten men’s flesh) causing havoc for their own reasons.

None of this is resolved or even really clarified for us. It’s a big, epic, story and clearly you have to read the whole thing for it to make sense. But it’s a story I very much want to read all of now.

Doctor Who TARDIS Logo Polo Shirt

Unfortunately geeky polo shirts and dress shirts are much less common than geeky t-shirts. But I spend far more time wearing those in public than I do t-shirts. They're also invariably much more expensive.

This is a pretty cool Doctor Who polo shirt though using the modern TARDIS shaped Doctor Who logo. It's relatively cheap too at $15 - $30 depending on size.

So What Did You Think Of The New Doctor Who Title Sequence?

I thought this one was deserving of its own post.

I do find the new sequence a refreshing change from the time vortex we've had since the series returned. But it's not subtle it is. Time... we get it!

All in all I think my favorite of all the nuWho title sequences so far is the ones for the second half of Season 7.

Doctor Who Review:  Season 8 Episode 1 - Deep Breath

The episodes that introduce a new Doctor to Doctor Who carry some additional weight and challenges with them. While there have been a few classics (The Power of the Daleks, Spearhead from Space and The 11th Hour spring to mind) there have also been well… less memorable ones (I’m looking at you Robot, The Twin Dillema and Time and the Rani).

In the modern era with a more knowing audience the challenges have possibly multiplied. Certainly Deep Breath is the most self-aware introduction to the Doctor that we’ve ever been given. In some ways that is good, in others not so much.

Ground It In The Familiar

One of the tricks Moffat pull out of his bag here is to surround Peter Capaldi’s 12th Doctor with lots of familiar faces and places. So we get the Paternoster Gang, Jenna Coleman’s Clara and another visit to Victorian London. I’ve lost count of the number of times the Doctor has landed there now. Even the villains are familiar with the clockwork robots from a previous Moffat episode (The excellent The Girl In The Fireplace) showing up.

That’s a smart play. It reassures the more conservative portion of the audience who don’t handle a change in the actor well. I’m not sure what percentage that is (not the kids I’m certain) but they are quite vocal so it’s a measurable number of the adult viewers.

Post Regeneration Trauma

It’s also become a tradition in Doctor Who for the Doctor to undergo some level of confusion after regeneration. Over the years this seems to have become a bigger part of the plot for the opening stories. If you’ve been watching for a long time that’s an element that does get a bit repetitive.

Here Capaldi initially plays it for laughs but then morphs it almost seamlessly into pathos. This is why Peter Capaldi is going to be awesome in this role. Certainly Steven Moffat’s script gave him the beats and the lines, but it’s Capaldi who can sell it. And that switch from funny to serious and then to dangerous (more on that later) is not an easy one to pull off.

Green Screen

One of the negatives that cannot be avoided is that Doctor Who is a science fiction show produced on a BBC budget. While some stories work around that limitation Moffat has a tendency to just go for broke with grandiose scenarios. The advances in modern CGI help a lot here. But the opening sequence with the dinosaur in London just screamed green screen to me.

For my tastes this is not a deal breaker, but it may stop some people from fully getting into the story.

The Darker Doctor

Much has been made in the press and online of the idea that Peter Capaldi would play a darker version of the Doctor. And oh boy does he.

Our first sign of this change is his casual dismissal of everyone else as idiots. Planet of the Pudding Brains as he puts it. His sense of superiority and his lack of concern for the feelings of others is not something we would have seen in recent incarnations of the character.

But then it gets really interesting. This isn’t just an arrogant Doctor, this is a dangerous Doctor. He leaves Clara. Sure, he has a plan and he’s not just completely abandoning her. But he walks away.

And just what did happen in his final confrontation with the clockwork android? That there would even be a doubt in our minds shows how effectively Capaldi has cemented the notion that this Doctor is dangerous.

I hope that’s something we see throughout the season because it adds a great bit of tension back into the show. The verbal sparring between Clara and the Doctor is one of the highlights of the episode

Knowing… Oh So Knowing

Much is made about the way that social media allows fans to connect with their shows more closely. But that’s not entirely a good thing. It could certainly be argued that the Doctor Who audience is too aware of the behind the scenes elements by this point.

Whether it’s overly personalizing their relationship with show runner or worrying far too much about when certain actors are going to leave the show, fans are focussing more attention on the making of the show rather than what’s actually on screen. This isn’t a new phenomenon, but the level of access and speed of information is exacerbating the problem. And now it seems to be happening from the other side of the camera too.

When I watched this episode the things that stuck out and annoyed me were not spoilers, but rather stuff that screamed to me of being put there in response to fan commentary. Whether it was the multiple references to Capaldi being Scottish, endless talk of flirting, this is stuff that did not feel organic to me. It felt like the writer talking to the fans through the characters.

It’s unreasonable to expect a show to be made in a bubble in this day and age… but I sort of wish it was.
New Doctor, Same Show

People tuning in to this episode of Doctor Who hoping to see a radically different show are destined for disappointment. This is not Classic Doctor Who, it’s nuWho, and that isn’t going to change in the foreseeable future. Partly because television has simply changed since Doctor Who’s original run and partly because… this format is highly successful.

What we did get is a clever tweaking of the existing formula. Something that I think and hope they will build on as the episodes progress in this season.  Peter Capaldi is as promised a different Doctor to any of the preceding ones and over time that difference should bleed into the stories and characters that surround him.

But this is still at its heart a fast paced romp where action is more important than sophisticated plotting and where the science takes third place at best.

Overall I’d say that Deep Breath is a workmanlike episode. It achieved its aim and it’s laid foundations that can be built on. But judged purely on its own, it’s okay but unexceptional episode.

Capaldi, on the other hand, is brilliant.

Was it completely deserted he wondered? And if so… what purpose his message?

8-Bit Super Mario Decals

By any chance have you always wished that you lived in Super Mario World? Well you’re not alone because my son feels the same way. And if he ever finds out about these vinyl wall decals I’m in trouble.

It’s not just that these decals feature Mario, Koopas and more, it’s that they do it in the 8-bit style of the early Super Mario games only scaled up to wall size.

The package isn’t cheap but they are offering three 26″ x 40″ sheets which apparently translates into dozens of decals. So you can fully decorate a room.

Should Chris Pratt Play Indiana Jones?

First off let's be clear. This isn't even a rumor right now. It's just a cool bit of image manipulation.

But I do actually think it would be a good idea.  Clearly he can look the part, but Guardians of the Galaxy also shows he could act the part if given it.

Yes Jones is defined by Harrison Ford, but let's face it the man is simply too old to play an action hero at this point. In fact he was too old in the last movie and that was part (though not all) of the problem.

Disney now have all the rights to the Indiana Jones franchise so the logical thing to do is a reboot.

And as this artwork from croonstreet reminds us... we should always beware of hitchiking ghosts.

Misha Collins, The Queen and an Elopus Went Into A Bar...

Stop me if you've heard it before because +Jennifer Irving needs a published science fiction author to write a 140 word max short story featuring Misha Collins, The Queen of England and an Elopus.

It's for charity and the details are in the original post.

Understand that I will keep bugging people about this until I find someone.

Looking For A Published Science Fiction Writer To Write A Super Short Story For Absolutely No Reward!

Well I guess it's for charity actually... No personal reward.

Okay I'm doing something I never do. I'm asking everyone to share this post. Unless you happen to be a published science fiction writer in which case I'm asking for your help.

My wife +Jennifer Irving is participating in GISHWHES 2014 (Greatest International Scavenger Hunt The World Has Ever Seen). The event which is co-ordinated by Misha Collins (Castiel in Supernatural) and donates to the charity Random Acts (more details on that can be found here https://www.gishwhes.com/ ). You can also find out more about the team my wife is on #ussdestiel  right here: http://teamussdestiel.tumblr.com/

One of the items on this years list is: Get a previously published Sci-Fi author to write an original story (140 words max) about Misha, the Queen of England and an Elopus*

So... I have roughly 130,000 people following me currently. Most of them register 11 out of 10 on the Geeky Scale. A fair number of them are writers of some persuasion. Some of them may be (or may know) a published writer.

Maximum of 140 words, Misha Collins, the Queen of England and an Elopus...

There's absolutely no reward for your efforts at all...except me saying nice things about you. Which, let's face it is pretty rare.

So please... if you are someone who would do this, or if you know someone get in touch. Otherwise Please share this post

Or I'll sulk.

*  _An Elopus for those wondering is a creature with the head of an elephant and body of an octopus. It's this year's GISHWHES mascot and you can see it in the logo below_

No, I Don't Want To Read A Book Where You Lecture Me On... Well... Anything

So I read this post on Queen of Tearling over at IO9 and it sounded kind of interesting until I got to this paragraph:

This is clearly meant to be a feminist take on the heroic journey — to the point where Kelsea even spends a couple of pages looking at classic fantasy books from the Old World (like The Hobbit) and lamenting the lack of female characters. It's also pretty explicitly atheist — Kelsea herself is an atheist, and organized religion is evil and corrupt (although one sympathetic priest is caught between her and his nasty brethren.)

Have female protagonists been lacking in epic fantasy? Yeah I'd say so. Does that mean I want to read a book where the protagonist actually comments on this fact? Fuck no.

Nor do I need yet another story where I get to hear allabo... more »

Incomplete List Of Shows To Watch/ReWatch

Over the summer I've been playing catch up and finally watched Person of Interest Season 3,  Elementary Season 2 and Haven Season 4. So I was trying to figure out what else I wanted to watch and hadn't got round to.

It's quite a long list. Interestingly though my list of shows I'm not going to watch contains many (most?) of the buzzworthy tv shows. Game of Thrones isn't officially on that list but I'm on the fence on that one too.

To Rewatch:
Buffy - Season 4 on
Angel - Season 1 on
Doctor Who - Season 7
Classic Doctor Who - Season 4
Stargate: SG-1 - All Seasons

Shows To Finish Watching:
Misfits - Season 3 on
Being Human (UK Version only) - Season 4 on
Luther - Season 3
Defiance - Season 2
Dominion - Season 1

Hello Friends, Friends of Friends, Friends of Friends of Friends...

This year I'll be participating in #GISHWHES .  I have a team of awesome girls, "Team #USSDestiel"  We have members in 6 countries, and have been working our butts off for the last 6 weeks, getting things ready for the hunt.

GISHWHES stands for The Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen.  This is a week long hunt, where teams are given a long list of items to accomplish within a one week period.

In past years, tasks have included creating a bathing suit out of tea bags, getting 200 people to chant “GISHWHES” at a sporting event, a marching band which performed “Carry On My WayWard Son,” flash mobs, CEOs performing dance moves to Beyonce’s “Single Ladies,” having local sanitation workers wear costumes while on their route, or a pillow fight with over 10participants.... more »

We need as many people as possible to get involved in the event with us, come out to participate in tasks and be able to help us out on items such as Storm Trooper outfits.

Even something as small as forwarding a request to your circles for people or resources needed for completing a task, or letting us post a call for help on your G+ & Facebook page would be a tremendous help.

Not posting much lately because I'm bored both with the routine of my posting and honestly with what others are posting.

It's all very predictable and uninteresting at the moment.

Marvel Unveils Ant-Man Poster - http://bit.ly/1nF7ExG

Marvel’s Ant-Man movie has run into some trouble in the last few months what with the departure of it’s Edgar Wright as director. But Marvel is determined to stick to their schedule and release the movie in July 2015 now with Peyton Reed as the director.

And at Comic-Con they’ve released this teaser poster saying just that.

Looks pretty good don’t you think?

Lord Of The Rings Fan Art - What Can You Find In The Mines Of Moria? - http://bit.ly/1rMd6ya

In this fabulous art by Loopydave the Fellowship of the Ring finds far more than just Orcs in the Mines of Moria (and no I’m not talking about a cave troll).

In fact it turns out there are all sorts of other things. The first two I spotted were Grumpy Cat and Cookie Monster, but that’s just scratching the surface.

Loopydave actually provides a link to a version showing everything that’s hidden in the picture.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Poster - http://bit.ly/1nCIhg2

The promotion for the final Hobbit movie previously titled There and Back Again and now called The Battle of the Five Armies (not sure why they added a the into the title) has begun. The movie hits theaters on December 12th and with Comic-Con upon us there is a poster!

Smaug looks angry.

There will likely have a teaser trailer at the Con and hopefully online not too long after.

Epic Level LEGO Map of Middle-Earth - http://bit.ly/1nyzk7x

Really incredible work here from Christoph Bartneck.

He has painstakingly re-created the map of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-Earth in topographical style from LEGO. And he’s done it on a grand scale. The resulting map is apparently 2 meters by 2 meters (thats roughly 6.5 x 6.5 feet) in size and contains 30,000 bricks. It’s built up in 7 levels and took him 4 months to complete.

He’s even put the breadcrumb trail of the Fellowship’s path across Middle-Earth in there. Oh and all the major characters from the book are represented in the appropriate geographical locations via their LEGO mini-figures.

I’m just trying to figure out where I could mount this thing.

Phineas And Ferb Star Wars Trailer - http://bit.ly/1nyig1u

We’ll get all the Phineas and Ferb regulars and a heaping of Star Wars guest stars. It seems for example that Luke Skywalker is actually their neighbor? Who knew…

Finn and Jake Visit Halloween Town In This Nightmare Before Christmas/Adventure Time Mashup - http://bit.ly/1nydtNx

This artwork by FunkBlast is almost a case of using absence to define presence. What we’re given here is merely the silhouette’s of Finn and Jake from Adventure Time along with the moon and cliffs that are instantly recognizable from A Nightmare Before Christmas.

There are no details here, and indeed not even that much in the way of color. A few shades of blue and some white is pretty much all it is, along with some nice crumpled paper texturing.

It’s extremely effective in its minimalism.

Hellboy Fan Art - Dragonslayer - http://bit.ly/1rEEVII

Here’s another great bit of artwork by Daniel Govar. This time round it’s Hellboy who gets the epic treatment. He’s depicted here slaying a rather majestic dragon.

Is it just me or does he not seem very happy about that?

Hellboy seems to be in “barbarian” mode here using a sword rather than guns and with his horns long, not cut short.

The blue blood used for the dragon does make a nice contrast to Hellboy’s red skin too.

Star Wars / Disney Mashup Cosplay - Meet Snowbafett - http://bit.ly/1zNV3vZ

Now I'm on record (repeatedly) on the subject of just how lame a  character Boba Fett actually is. Third worst in the entire Star Wars universe isn’t hyperbole. That’s actually where I think he ranks. Fett has one thing and one thing only going for him. He looks pretty cool (in a 70s sort of way).

So Amber Arden’s costume (as photographed here by Estrada Photography) takes the one good thing about Fett and makes it massively cooler by combining it with a Disney Princess. Snow White to be specific.

Not only does she give the Mandalorean armor the correct color scheme, she’s even put a bow on the helmet! Though since she’s got a bow in her hair too that does seem a tad excessive.

Snowbafett is probably a better bounty hunter than Boba too.

Beautiful Middle-Earth Art - From The Shire To The Sea - http://bit.ly/1zNQ66n

Not only is this a really beautiful painting by Joe Gilronan but there’s so much going on that you have to take your time and let your eyes sweep gently over it.

Obviously starting in the Shire at Bag End, the painting takes us on a tour of western Middle-Earth stopping by Rivendell, Gondor, The Argonath and the Grey Havens, all while the baleful Eye of Sauron glares down.

Gilronan is a professional artist apparently and has produced quite a lot of Tolkien inspired artwork. All of it definitely worth checking out so click through the link. You also want to make sure you take a look at the full size image, because there is a lot going on here.

First Trailer For SyFy's 12 Monkeys Series - http://bit.ly/1zNJZyX

The show won't air until 2015, but SyFy have released the first trailer for 12 Monkeys which is adapted from the Terry Gilliam movie of the same name.

In the trailer we seem to be covering very similar ground to the movie. I'm guessing this is all happening the first episode. I mean how far along with shooting could they really be at this point? Which does raise a question about where they will go for the rest of the season.

Visually it's got nothing on Gilliam's movie. But then, there really never was any hope of that. There are some promising actors in the mix though and the basic concept is one of the more interesting uses of time travel so I remain curious.

Star Wars Fan Art - Darth Talon Will Make You Tremble - http://bit.ly/1rrLBJV

Darth Talon for those who don’t track all the details of the assorted books and comics is a Lethan Twi’lek who became a Sith Lady as part of Darth Krayt’s One Sith (so says Wookiepedia). This all happens 100 or so years after the fall of the Emperor so you can safely assume it’s not canon any more and ignore it.

As shown here in this image by daRoz though she is pretty awe inspiring don’t you think? Not someone to mess with unless you have a death wish judging by the look she’s giving. Really moody bit of artwork and the skin looks like skin not a costume.

While Bujold is best known for her Vorkosigan saga science fiction series, she has also written three fantasy books in the Chalion series all of which are very much worth reading..

The Hallowed Hunt is the third of the Chalion series, but each book stands alone so you dont' have to worry about having read the previous one.

It's a very good book at full price but a steal at $3.99

Marvel Studios have given Entertainment Weekly several set photos from the currently shooting Avengers sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron and while they are behind the scenes shots so we’re not seeing what it will look like on screen it does give us an idea of what we’re in for.

I these 8 photos we can see Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, Bruce Banner, Iron Man and Black Widow of course, but also Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver and Rhodey.

Minion Captain Jack Sparrow Artwork -  http://bit.ly/1roZyIw

I love a good mashup and this is a good mashup. What do you get when you cross Despicable Me with the Pirates of the Caribbean? Well naturally you get a Captain Jack Sparrow.

This rather excellent drawing was done by AtomiccircuS using markers and color pencils. I think he’s done a great job of capturing the look of Captain Jack while still making this a suitably miniony minion.

Loudon Heights Overlook

Here's a different look at Harpers Ferry. This time round I hiked up Loudon Heights rather than Maryland Heights.

While the walk up Maryland Heights is pretty much straight up (well round and round up I suppose) Loudon Heights is a bit more spread out. First you go up, then you walk along the spine of the mountain for a way.

At the end of the trail you get this view which is definitely worthwhile.

Next time I go up there I need to try out my telephoto lens and get some closer shots of Harpers Ferry itself.

Panasonic Lumix 14mm f/2.5 Micro Four Thirds Interchangeable Lens - http://bit.ly/1roSDPR

I think I want this lens.

Even by the standards of Micro Four Thirds lenses this thing is tiny. Which makes the whole camera incredibly light and portable when this is the lens you have on. On top of that F/2.5 makes for a better depth of field and would give me a small low light boost compared to the kit lens.

Theres also a pretty nice 20mm pancake lens that Panasonic makes, but right now the 14mm is only $260 which is a pretty good price.

When a devastating turn of events catapults them into the midst of a dangerous plot unfolding in the streets of San Fransokyo, Hiro turns to his closest companion—a cutting-edge robot named Baymax—and transforms the group into a band of high-tech heroes determined to solve the mystery. Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, and featuring comic-book style action and all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios, "Big Hero 6" is directed by Don Hall ("Winnie the Pooh") and Chris Williams ("Bolt"), and produced by Roy Conli ("Tangled"). The film hits theaters in 3D on November 7, 2014.___

How Did They Get Like That

From time to time on my walks I am confronted with an arrangement that makes me ask... How did they get like that?

Take these rather substantially sized boulders for example. Clearly they did not start off in this arrangement.

Yet here I am hiking along the spine of a mountain and there they sit. What particularly alignment of circumstances resulted in the creation of this pillar?

No I'm not looking for a detailed scientific treatise on this particular situation... this is a question of a more general nature
