LIGHTROOM 5 BETA - Impressions

Don't stop the presses... but do install.

It's not a huge upgrade, maybe even a non-impressive update, but it does answer some problems that I have and for that I am going to be using Lightroom 5 (beta)

FEATURES USED
I ended up using quite a few of the new features in this picture.

The new "Upright" feature, seemed to correct issues with shooting a tall building from low and using a 14mm.

As many may know I'll be traveling the country for a year photographing religious buildings so this is very nice for me specially since I don't use Photoshop. (Be updated about the upcoming kickstarter project here: https://www.facebook.com/events/129503870572372)

"Pre-Nostalgia"

I'm still months away from when I pack up my life into a vehicle (and a storage unit) and leave to travel the country for almost a year.
And all this depending on the success of an upcoming kickstarter project.

But while I edited this picture of Utah County and Mt. Timpanogos from last week I already started to feel nostalgic. Realizing I've already lived here for 10+ years ... and I honestly love it here.

And to think I almost didn't go because it was midnight I was a bit tired and the shots were a bit tricky. (Obviously)

But I think it turned out well. I know these guys put a whole lot into their jeeps and they love doing the night trails and I bet they've never gotten a picture like this before.

COMING UP: A YEAR ON THE ROAD

"50 States, 50 Parks, 50 Temples" (Possible title)

Yesterday on Facebook I announced that later this year I will be getting in the car and driving for almost a year. http://on.fb.me/16IyBmQ

I will be traveling all over the United States and Canada 
I will be launching a kickstarter in about 2 weeks but this is a little heads up... a pre-announcement if you will.

Temples and more
I anticipate that the project will mainly be funded by creating and selling an LDS Temples book (as seen in the picture) ... but I'm certainly looking for another angle that will interest most of you reading this post that are not members of +The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

An afternoon search for flattering light

I thought we'd start at 5pm and shoot til' the 7:45 sunset
Turns out that 5pm was the ending time since he had sound check for a concert that night. So we started mid-day

Dialogue with myself
Internally... "OK, I'm up for the challenge of shooting mid-day"

Right before we started I started to waver a bit and thought:
"Maybe I should bring someone to help with a diffuser."
Looked outside and thought:
"It's cloudy and everyone is at work or school and won't respond with 30 minutes notice"
Decided
"I'll be fine... I'll make it work... just need to be resourceful and creative."

RESULT
In any case... we found plenty of spots with great lighting and my D800 handled them well.

NYC - Who's there?

I'll be flying into New York City and heading down to Philadelphia to photograph a wedding later this month.

Photographers in NYC
I'm just about to get the plane tickets... wondering if I have any friends in NYC.

If not I'll just make it a short trip and get back here and get lots of work done. But if I have a place to stay and people to be around I may stay a few more days.

Or outside of the city I guess since it'd make parking a rental car easier. But then again I don't need a rental car for when I'm in the city.

I just slept like 10-12 hours... I think i'm recovered and ready to get this video of the Festival of Colors done. #holi

All my thoughts regarding the subject.
4 years of photographing this event and I've never had a problem.

Not a big deal
Most of the "photographer regulars" of the event barely do anything to their camera it's actually the people with cell phones and point and shoots that usually ruin their cameras... those with DSLRs are usually pretty safe... unless they make more crazy decisions. 

If you think it's beneficial watch the video to get some ideas.

SCARED? ... WARNING
If you're still to scared to shoot the event... that's OK ... I'd be quite alright being the only photographer there. The prize goes to those willing to work for it.

Addicted to the Milky Way

We only got small glimpses of the bright core of the milky way because the moon was up most of the night.

This night the moon was setting when this happen.

Yep I did video each day of my 19 day trip
I still have to edit the last 8 and release them a day at a time.
Hard to do while far far away from internet and staying up all night doing star shots in the Utah wilderness.

Wedding Photographer

Just in case people don't forget I certainly still make my living taking pictures of people specially for weddings (and engagement pictures)

It's nice to take a break because heaven knows May and June will be PACKED with weddings every single week.

But for the time being ... I'll be posting a ton of travel stuff.
