Bug, flower, metal. That's the order for this evening. :)

Oh good. G+ is actually letting me upload a photo today! Grrr.
Not sure about the family for this Sexyfly, I thought it may be Bibionidae but I'm not too sure.
I am fascinated by the way many Flies often seem to sit with one or more legs hanging off whatever perch they're on as well, there must be a reason for it but I have no idea.
This is a good example of a head that is all eyes.

Just gotta post a tune tonight.
Still remember buying this "LP" when it came out and playing the first bit backwards to see what evil messages lay within. (I'm sure they just said to do that so you'd wreck you record and have to buy another one!)
The Crue have aged well, and this riff still kicks all kinds of arse. \m/

The Paper Wasps are pretty docile now with the cooler weather coming in, which is good for getting some "in ya face" stuff like this.
Finally getting to grips with the new kit a little, and was nearly happy with this one.
Boo! :)

Don't usually post random Vids unless they're metal, but I've been listening to lots of this guys podcasts and he's a true inspiration, great Aussie, and a fascinating bloke.

No Bugs for a change. ;)
Going out tomorrow for possibly one of the last hunts for this season, wish me luck. May the Bugs be with me.
Happy weekend all you people from the past too. :)

Decapitation of fly head by Salticus scenicus male jumping spider
GEAR: Sony a77 + Pentax 50mm 1.7 reversed + macro extension tubes
Here you can see how this male Salticus scenicus male jumping spider decapitates head of a fly. I have never seen this before. I have watched many jumping spiders eating a fly, but never seen that they decapitate their victims head until this male zebra jumper did it.
I was very lucky to have this shot, and that head came off in just right way to be able to take this shot.

This new look and no posting from albums, I can't behind that!!!

Blagh, I'm just going to post to the main feed now.
I don't suppose having albums is that important anyway!

Slick, but waaay to busy for my brain!!

My favorite track on the highly underrated album from ex Arch Enemy vocalist Johan Liiva.
Some fantastic riffage in this one.
I recommend a mild bang of your head. \m/

I was shooting in my normal garden a few days ago and was taken by the Autumn colours and the way the light was coming in across the tops of the flowers hedging this path so I thought I'd shoot it with my 40mm macro and see how it came out!
#somethingdifferent :)

Mr. Snuffleupagus
I noticed this tiny Weevil outside a while back and not being in the mood to lie flat on my stomach to shoot it, put it up on my daughter's trampoline for a few shots.
It was quite funny as any time I touched it to try to get it to chance direction or face me it would immediately roll onto it's back, feet up in the air and "play dead" like a Dog waiting for it's stomach to be scratched!
I finally got it to stay upright long enough for a reasonable side on shot. :)

Another "Lynx Lunch" shot here, as a poor Sexy Long Legged Fly meets a gruesome end. I have still yet to see the capture happen real-time with any of there Spiders!
On another note, I was just converting some RAW's from today and realised I'd been adjusting one of the settings completely wrong on all my Canon shots so far. Damn I hate being such a noob with this post processing stuff!
I may have to go back and fix a lot of my previous better shots now because I know I won't be able to just leave them! :-P
Priest song to compliment this on coming shortly.
Oh yea, #communitiessuck ;)

I am often amazed at how bigger prey item these small Spiders can take down and this is no exception.
This is a small Lynx Spider, with what I think is a member of the Bibionidae family of Flies it's captured for a meal.
What tripped me out when I looked at it closely on the computer screen was the tiny little Fly bravely and with complete indignation sitting on the deceased Bibionidae fly blowing a small bubble right in the face of the Lynx! Haha!
I have NO IDEA what is going on here. :-P

These flowers were really tiny, perhaps 6mm across and were the first ones I have taken in natural light with the Mp-e.
Never thought I'd be doing natural light floral shots with it, but maybe I will!

It's been a Sexyfly fest today, so many great captures, especially with the Northern hemisphere coming into the warmer weather now.
So great to see the variety and quality of shots from all around the globe!
I thought I'd better get in on the action myself. :)

A slight re-jig of an old shot here that I wasn't happy with when I processed it back then.

This is a Salticidae or "Jumping Spider" possibly a male from the genus Cytaea
That is all I know. :)
Have a great weekend to all of you lucky enough not to be working both days like me. :-P

This is a Wasp from the family Scoliidae "Campsomeris tasmaniensis" or a "Yellow Flower Wasp"
There are quite a few around now, even now that we are into Autumn here (most of you call it "fall" right?) ;)
They are a very pretty little Wasp, if you get out early enough in the morning they can be found roosting high up on individual dead flowerheads and you can get very close to them, then as the day warms they move off to actively feed on pollen like a Bee.
They are quite long and challenging to compose in one image, so I took a few shots of this one and stitched the long antennae on in Photoshop from a separate image.

Another closer one of this Blowey which I pushed to about 4x, still a single shot.
Will get around to a stack oneday. I reckon we can call it a tie for our "Fly-off" +Deb Yarrow and get on with it now +Deb Yarrow ? ;)

Lots of people want "closer, closer" so I've been shooting a few more magnified images with the Mp-e and have just had time to process a few now.
This is up close and personal with a Paper Wasp, I think about 3x.

Mummified
In my local Botanic Garden there's a specific spot where two large Orb Weaver's have their webs strung out between a small palm tree and an adjacent bush.
I often see them there but haven't seen anything in the web until recently when I found this poor Dragonfly which must have only just found itself entangled as the Orb was wrapping it up as I came upon the spot this day.
The Spider got a little scared off and retreated to the corner (I managed to snap a couple of it as well) so I thought I'd snap the recently deceased dragon as it struck me how they always look like they're "smiling" if you see their face close up, but that could quickly be reinterpreted as "horrified" in a different situation such as this!
I'm going to try to post one image a day to run me through my current stockpile of shots, and if I run out now that... more »

Meh, wasn't sure if I wanted to post these or not but I thought what the heck, then I can file 'em as done.
I know people like to see a bit of different stuff apart form the Bugs and flowers sometimes, so it's a bit of HDR stuff I've played around with.

It seems like half of the G+ I have circled has birthdays this month!
I thought a Sexyfly might be in order for my Aussie mate downunder "Downunder" +Francois Fourie who's special day is today.
Hope you have a great day mate, love your landscapes and look forward to more Sexyflies from you when our weather warms up again.
All the best.

A beautiful little native Bee atop a very small flower.
This is at 1x, as the Bee is only about 5mm long.

I am obsessed with diffusion.
Throughout my various iterations of macro set-ups the constant challenge has been to get the light right.
I know that's the case with any photography, but for macro it's even more so imperative because of the close working distances.
I came across this excellent article recently with very in depth information and example shots which anyone interested in macro flash photography should check out, very interesting.

Much like +Mandy Allen 's cool metal Beetle here: https://plus.google.com/114662745306354012748/posts/NEoAU1T2Fq8
I found this Katydid \ Cricket \ Grasshopper \ WTF to be quite "metal" looking.
Not my best shot, but I was excited just to see such a metal Bug. :)
