We know that in tomorrow night’s budget $2.3 billion will be taken from universities and students – Higher Education Minister Craig Emerson confirmed it to me personally when I took your petition to him.
Even though every public dollar invested in tertiary education grows the economy by $26, Labor is determined to make these cuts.
I took 3,500 of your signatures to the Minister from our rapid campaign – a phenomenal response. Thank you.
Can you share our petition with three friends so we can take their support for universities to Canberra this week?
People have written to me about what these cuts will mean. They’ve told me of shy students unable to speak up in crowded tutorials who have missed vital opportunities. Final year Civil Engineering students who are missing pre-exam lectures because lecture theatres are full, even before these cuts take effect. ... more »

I don't like to be forced to do things by the government, but the totally misleading propaganda from anti vaccinations groups is causing too much damage, and I welcome this: http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/newshome/16689740/hard-line-on-school-vaccinations/

In English people called Robert are usually called Bob. In the same way in Spanish people called Francisco are called Pancho. Now as you may know the new Pope (Papa in Spanish) is Called Francisco, so between friends that's Pancho.
Pancho is also the Spanish word fro Hot Dog, so now in Argentina they are not just selling "Normal Pancho" "Super Pancho" but also "*Holy* Pancho", which includes potatos (the word "papa" means also potato!) :P

Week 9: Landscape
Lake Monger, just outside of the Perth CBD is a refuge for wildlife and a favourite excercise place. It is in walking distance of two train stations on two separate lines, and has a surprising amount of parking available. It is also a part of a chain of lake reserves that extend from Joondalup in the north to Rockingham in the south.
Heavily landscaped in the 1930s-1970s, extensive shoreline rehabilitiation is taking place, and the wildlife is flourishing.

Law of Attraction: a humanist view:
"I think one of the reasons why people are so attracted to positive thinking is because it gives them a way to control their fears and nervousness. It is a way for them to believe they have control over things they don’t actually have control of.
The Humanist approach is to embrace reality. And that means, embracing uncertainty. Accepting that there are some things beyond your control doesn’t have to cause you stress. It turns out that the fear you don’t have control is worse than accepting that you don’t. Once you accept that the outcomes of your endeavors are ultimately unknown, it frees you up to focus on the things you can control instead. Do your best and hope for the best. But it is always a good idea to be prepared and to have an alternative plan in place just in case things don’t go as you had hoped. That isn’t pessimistic. It is just g... more »

Old Shed in the Adelaide Hills
Sharing is appreciated :)
I'm currently down in Adelaide for work, and a friend from IceInSpace chauffeured me around the other night, taking me up into the Adelaide Hills so I could shoot some nightscapes.
We found this great old abandoned shed in one of the valleys not far from his house.
The night sky shows the Southern Cross, Carina, the Large and Small Magellanic clouds, and I was lucky enough to capture a meteor flare to the right. #nightscapes
