a small ice cave in Sequoia National Park, California. Believe it or not this was formed by the runoff from the corrugated tin roof on the visitor's center in Seqoia. Wild things are where you find them!

Signs--Graham Hess: People break down into two groups. When they experience something lucky, group number one sees it as more than luck, more than coincidence. They see it as a sign, evidence, that there is someone up there, watching out for them. Group number two sees it as just pure luck. Just a happy turn of chance. I'm sure the people in group number two are looking at those fourteen lights in a very suspicious way. For them, the situation is a fifty-fifty. Could be bad, could be good. But deep down, they feel that whatever happens, they're on their own. And that fills them with fear. Yeah, there are those people. But there's a whole lot of people in group number one. When they see those fourteen lights, they're looking at a miracle. And deep down, they feel that whatever's going to happen, there will be someone there to help them. And that fills them with hope. See what you have to... more »

View from the west coast of Vancouver Island....at the end of an extended summer. Our weather just changed to fall a few days ago, and with it has come some much-needed rain. This coast will see some amazing storms, rain and surf in the next few months!
I will be away from the internet for the next two weeks, on an adventure that I will share with you when I get back! Have a good next couple of weeks G+!

Zzzzzzzziiiiipppp! Twice, in fact
+Randy Halverson is a great astrophotographer. While this beautiful shot of the Milky Way from South Dakota, a meteor zipped across the frame, leaving a persistent train - a trail that took several minutes to fade away. But even cooler: almost exactly a year ago, in this exact spot, he took another picture of the Milky Way that also has meteor zipping through it that also had a persistent train! I wrote about the first one at the time, so I figured I should write about the second one as well to keep the symmetry going.

I searched some playful toys to shoot in celebration of +Lars Clausen's birthday today, but these micro-macro "snooker ball" water drops decided they wanted to play instead … after all, Lars is a playful guy and a Macro Master!!
Happy birthday, Lars … I hope your day is excellent!

Impressions of Capitola
Went out this morning in my flip flops for some salt water and sand therapy. Decided the landscape needed some intentional blurring. Or maybe it was just my sleepy eyes not quite wanting to be awakened.
With a 1/2 second shutter speed and a slow sweeping left to right panning, while hand holding my camera, I was able to come away with this image to remember the morning.

Turkey vulture, that beautiful scavenger.
Yeah; they're scavengers. They're cleaners -- even their name, Cathartes aura , can be taken to mean they're nature's purifiers. They're my good luck birds.
Even more on my vulture love: http://www.arizona-writer.com/2010/10/face-everyone-could-or-should-love.html

Outside of Kyoto, Japan there is a popular tourist district called Arashiyama. The area has been a frequent destination since the Heian Period (794-1185), when nobles would enjoy its natural setting. Arashiyama is particularly popular during the cherry blossom and fall color seasons. Within this area lies the famous bamboo forest of Sagano.

Have Faith In Your Path
You may not know where it leads, you may not see the end, you may be afraid to take the first step but sometimes you have to simply take it. Each and every person has a path, some will know the way they want to go, some will not but within your heart you will know when its right.
The only thing you should be more afraid of when setting out on your life's journey is not setting out at all.

Yet another re-share for #fungusfriday ( work commitments are keeping me away from the woods ! )Curated by +Chris Sullivan & +Dan Bowden . This,I believe is Geastrum fimbriatum, more commonly known here as the Sessile Earthstar. At less than an inch in diameter I pushed the diffraction limitations of my lens a little too far with this one,so it's not quite as sharp as it could have been.Hopefully I can find time to rectify it and do better this year.☺
