Many communities started taking harassment more seriously after some ugly incidents became public. Maybe this will happen for physics and astronomy. Right now, our particle theory group at Caltech has zero women (faculty+postdocs+grad students). Won't change without taking active steps. 

Can't blame women. Physics is a hard slog with bad job prospects for anyone. A hostile and unwelcoming environment pushes women elsewhere.Too many supposedly intelligent male scientists devote their IQ points to coming up with excuses rather than addressing the problems.
