Photoshop CC Question
With the new release of #Photoshop CC - it looks like the interwebs are starting to chatter again on the entire Creative Cloud upgrades, the features just released in the new version, and what they mean to #Photography and photographers.
I am not trying to be pedantic - I really am curious here. If one sits back and looks at Photoshop CS6 - do you sit back and think to yourself "Man, if there is one feature in Photoshop that would totally change the way I do Photography" can we really think of one? Is there some feature out there that from a photographic POV is a gaping hole that the technology in Photoshop doesn't fill? Or does Photoshop CS6 do pretty much all we really need in our Photography, and the changes we think of are nice to haves.
Just curious.

NSA chief: we do not ‘unilaterally’ obtain data from Google, Facebook, Microsoft servers
Microsoft, Yahoo, Google, Facebook, AOL, Verizon, and Apple might breathe a little easier today. Their denials of working with the NSA’s PRISM program to turn over huge quantities of customer data over to the secretive U.S. intelligence agency just got a little bit more credible today, thanks to testimony from NSA director General Keith Alexander.
“The U.S. government does not unilaterally obtain information from the servers of U.S. companies,” Alexander said. “Rather, the U.S. companies are compelled to provide these records by U.S. law using methods that are in strict compliance with that law.”
Unfortunately, Alexander also referred to the companies as “our industry partners.”

#AutoAwesome galore:
I took several dozens of photos of my BBQ
The Auto Awesome did not just create one pic even though the background is the same.
It created new gif's of all the "photo sets" I took.
There are more but I chose these.
Interesting.

Facebook, Microsoft release information about US data requests
Facebook announced today that it received between 9,000 and 10,000 requests for user data from the U.S. government in the second half of 2012. Following suit, Microsoft said it received 6,000 to 7,000 criminal and national security warrants from local, state, and federal U.S. government entities during that same time period.
In total, between 18,000 and 19,000 Facebook accounts and 31,000 to 32,000 Microsoft consumer accounts were involved.
The two companies released the information after striking agreements with the U.S. government. The releases come amid fallout from disclosure about a secret government data-collection program.
Google said it avoided a similar agreement since it would be “a step back for users.”

Google + Facebook = 70 percent of all mobile ad revenues worldwide
By itself, Google accounts for 56 percent of all global mobile ad revenues. Social giant Facebook takes a much smaller chunk with 13 percent. But together, they own the lion’s share of mobile ad dollars.
Advertisers spent $8.8 billion hawking their wares via mobile ads last year, according to new numbers from eMarketer.
Of that, Google raked in $4.61 billion — triple what it made in 2011. And eMarketer estimates that Google will almost double mobile revenues in 2013 to a staggering $8.85 billion. While Facebook’s numbers are much smaller, the company is also much younger and much newer to the mobile ad marketplace. As of just two years ago, Facebook had no mobile ad revenue at all.

The astounding athletic power of quadcopters
In a robot lab at TEDGlobal, Raffaello D'Andrea demos his flying quadcopters: robots that think like athletes, solving physical problems with algorithms that help them learn. In a series of nifty demos, D'Andrea show drones that play catch, balance and make decisions together -- and watch out for an I-want-this-now demo of Kinect-controlled quads.

UPDATED: Google has acquired Waze
From Google: "To help you outsmart traffic, today we’re excited to announce we’ve closed the acquisition of Waze. This fast-growing community of traffic-obsessed drivers is working together to find the best routes from home to work, every day.
"The Waze product development team will remain in Israel and operate separately for now. We’re excited about the prospect of enhancing Google Maps with some of the traffic update features provided by Waze and enhancing Waze with Google’s search capabilities.
"We’ll also work closely with the vibrant Waze community, who are the DNA of this app, to ensure they have what’s needed to grow and prosper."

Internet Shattered: Spies, Spooks, and Disgust
http://lauren.vortex.com/archive/001042.html
I've spent literally my entire adult life (and even before) working on Internet technologies and policies, one way or another, reaching back to early ARPANET days at UCLA -- a project rooted in Department of Defense funding, it's worthwhile to remember.
Over that time, there have been many related high points and low points, events joyful or upsetting, but never -- not even close -- have I felt so completely, utterly disgusted with a situation associated with the Net as I am today.
The apparently true facts we're learning about our own government's spying abuses against its own citizens are bad enough (http://lauren.vortex.com/archive/001040.html). But we also are faced with stomaching the incredibly hypocritical and disingenuous ... more »

Is this true?
Half of All Americans Are Now Checking Their Smart Phones 150 Times a Day
Fresh new data from the Pew Research Center reveals that a clear majority of American adults are now smart phone owners. A full 56% of America use iPhones, Androids, and the like as their primary phone. That is approximately 176 million people. The bulk of the users are either in their twenties and thirties, or skew affluent. As you can see, the adoption rate has been nothing short meteoric—smart phone ownership shot up from 35% to 56% in just two years.
So what is half of America going to do with its new grip of smart phones? Check them compulsively, of course. A number of other studies have found that the average smart phone user checked his or her phone 150 times a day.

Facebook and Google insist they did not know of US government surveillance program Prism: http://bit.ly/198pxx9
Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Facebook, described the press reports about Prism as "outrageous". He insisted that the Facebook was not part of any program to give the US government direct access to its servers even as president Barack Obama confirmed the scheme's existence Friday.
