There are some crazy, exciting, and bittersweet changes on the way for me.  After over 3 years with Google, tomorrow I’m turning in my laptop and leaving this wonderful company.  I never thought I’d actually have a chance  to get in the door when I applied, but I was lucky enough not only to get hired, but to work with some of the absolutely coolest people on some incredible and exciting projects.  And you better believe I don’t take any of those challenging, incredible experiences for granted. 

But I’m ready to give my other passions a chance - and I’ve learned that working full-time and trying to save energy for more is not something this girl is great at.  If I’m going to take risks and really give it a chance, I want to be all-in. So after some serious relaxation in Hawaii with my sister, I’m road-tripping home to Wisconsin [thanks Dad for being my co-pilot].

Starting today, dates and times within emails are lightly underlined: click them to schedule that conference call or lunch date in Google Calendar without ever leaving Gmail.

Too many Events invitations?

Control your Google Calendar & Google+ Events

If you don't wish all the Google+ Events you've been invited to showing in your Calendar...

Go to your Google Calendar settings:
https://www.google.com/calendar/render?tab=mc

Scroll down until Show events you have declined: Tick NO
Also: Automatically add invitations to my calendar: Tick "No, only show invitations to which I have responded"

This means:
"If you select no, you won't see any events on your calendar except for those which you've responded yes to. This setting only applies to you. People you've shared your calendar with will still be able to see all events on your calendar."

Meeting a friend every other Sunday?  Easily add this to your Calendar when you create an event by choosing the repeat option and specifying how it repeats, how often it repeats, and on what day(s) it repeats.  So it Repeats: Weekly > Repeat every: 2 weeks >  *Repeat on:* leave the first S checkbox selected since this happens on a Sunday.

Did you know: Calendar will adjust the amount of information on a page when you resize your browser or when you use different sized screens.  But if you prefer a more dense view, then you can customize your default density from the Gear icon.  #CalendarTip

It's been an awesome year for Google+ Hangouts.  This video sums it up.  

We knew democratizing face-to-face video communication was giving the world something very special...  but the amount of creativity, entrepreneurship and connection that Hangouts have facilitated is awe-inspiring.  Hats off to the Hangout team... and mostly to all of you.

If your schedule is easier managed in a specific view or # of days, let Google Calendar reflect that too.  First, you can customize your calendar view by clicking on a start date and dragging to your desired end date on the leftside mini-calendar. 

Or customize the 4 Days button in the top-right corner of your calendar to create your own preferred calendar view (2 days, 2 weeks, etc). You can also make your custom view your Default view.

If you've previously been responsible for organizing your hiking club's weekend hikes, but are ready to pass on this role, don't forget to transfer ownership of the Event to the new coordinator!  When you're editing event details, visit the "More Actions" dropdown > Change Owner... I may be late to the party, but I've discovered a new use for +Google #Calendar: Keeping up with past events, not just future events.

For example, I had my AC worked on yesterday. I just put that on my calendar, so the next time I have to schedule any kind of work or repair, I can look back and see the last time I did it, too.

Customize calendar colors in Google Calendar

To give you more colorfulness, today we’re launching the ability to choose any color you like for each of your calendars.

To select a custom color, open the drop-down menu for a calendar in your “My Calendars” or “Other calendars” lists, and click “Choose custom color” 

The dialog that appears allows you to pick any possible color. You can also pick between dark and light text so that you can choose the one that provides the best contrast for you.
