+Cisco CSR in the news! [VIDEO] The local ABC News television crew was in the Cisco CSR building at Cisco Headquarters in San Jose, California, yesterday afternoon. They interviewed our own Director of Operations, Kathy Mulvany and Veterans Program Manager, Thomas J. Bonner, about Cisco’s new program to help Veterans find jobs. Cisco worked with Futures, Inc. to create a computer program that translates a soldier’s military specialty into a civilian job description. Learn more in this ABC video.

+Cisco Systems Chairman and CEO John Chambers just spoke at +The White House about a new public/private partnership to help Veterans get jobs. In the US, almost 10% of the workforce at Cisco are Veterans. He is calling on other IT companies and companies in other industries to join with Cisco in helping the brave men and women who serve our country get employment when they return to civilian life.

I like this new One Today app that Google launched dedicated to micro-Donations.
The idea behind the app is to increase exposure to different nonprofits while spurring popular involvement in a user-friendly manner.
I worked with some of the people at Google.org while I was helping launch nonprofit pages on Google+ -- a very talented and creative lot. This app is a very excited step in increasing the quantity of donor and donations! I hope the pilot will expand to include other technology platforms and geographic locations.

It is Girls in ICT Day today. I am spending the morning with 40 teenage girls from local high schools at Cisco headquarters. They heard from female engineers about careers in technology. Here the participants are doing an exercise that shows a visual simulation of how packets of information are sent through a router.

Greenpeace started evaluating global Information Technology (IT) companies in 2009 because IT companies have a central role to play in enabling a modern, renewable-powered energy infrastructure. The IT sector has the opportunity to drive transformative change in the consumption and production of energy, with the potential to drive a significant reduction in the greenhouse gases that cause climate change.
In Greenpeace’s analysis of Cisco’s performance they said Cisco’s leadership improved across each of the three evaluation areas, particularly for updated commitments to manage its energy footprint and increase the amount of renewable energy powering its operations.

Its that time of year again. TEDxBerkeley is on Saturday at +UC Berkeley and we have 1,300 people attending so far! I am up on stage again for the 2nd session, introducing some really interesting speakers including Dan Millman (best selling author of Way of the Peaceful Warrior) and Mallika Chopra.
The whole team is working on dozens of logistical details, speaker intros, etc. I have been at my computer for hours and the students are all together at UC Berkeley in a room meeting and emails and calls are flying back and forth.
Its going to be a really fun event. There are still some general admission tickets left if you want to give yourself a treat!

Four key ingredients for successful collaboration
Here is an article by my colleague Harbrinder Kang published today on Forbes and +Skoll World Forum blog. Cisco did a recent study on human behavior and technology and humans still want personal interaction when they connect!!! That's how I feel. I am on technology many hours a day and really value when I can talk, walk or have a meal in person with colleagues.
