Well, when you know a bit of about how browsers work, it's not quite that simple. You've just put into play HTTP, HTML, CSS, ECMAscript, and more. Those are actually such incredibly complex technologies that they'll make any engineer dizzy if they think about them too much, and such that no single company can deal with that entire complexity.

Let's simplify.

HP just killed WebOS-phones and tablets... another victim of Apple/Google war on mobile devices. Buying Palm for $1.2 bln. and effectively killing it a year later is a remarkably stupid move.

While I am not sure yet if Google+ has a real chance to succeed, I am amused as to how many people think "why do we need another social network if we already have Facebook?".

I suggest to expand this logic:
- Why do we need another car maker if we already have BMW?
- Why do we need another smartphone if we already have iPhone?
- Why do we need another email provider if we already have Hotmail?

Guess what were people asking when Google search appeared? Yeah, that's right, "why do we need another search engine?" it was.

After 3 weeks on Windows 7 I find that the only thing I am really missing is proper local shell. Everything else is either quite good or at least tolerable.

It is interesting that much less people want Bing to succeed compared to Google+ (including myself), but we do need competition in search space as much as we need it in social.

It is funny how installation of HP printer drivers was so much more transparent on Ubuntu, than it is on Windows 7, which is supposed to be the mother of ease-of-use.

For many people facebook still has a stigma of an entertainment tool or a playground. Apparently same does not hold true for Google+, which is treated, at least so far, as something more serious that you can have without losing image. This is good.

Apple's earnings report is absolutely flabbergasting. 125% profit increase for such a huge company. Unbelievable. I wonder what they will now do with their $75 billion in cash (apart from that spaceship-like new office).

Oh, Google+ has a problem. If you start a full-on blog post from a Share of someone else's post, it isn't collapsable or sharable. Sorry about that.

My tips for newer users of Google+:

1. Learn what circles are and how to put people into them. When I first started out I went crazy with circles, opening up something like 20 of them. That wasn't very smart, it turned out. Now I'm back to seven. Simple ones like "friends, family, coworkers, geeks, VCs, tech press." Etc.

2. Learn how to distribute content to circles, or public, or certain people. When you post here you don't need to send it to everyone. You can send it just to people you've put in a specific circle, like "friends" or you can send it to a specific person, like me.
