We have finally been able to release one of the projects I have been working on for quite some time.
I partnered with my friend Alan Murphy, whom I consider to be the best bird photographer today, to produce an instructional video on bird photography.
This is the first installment on what we hope will be a series of videos.
For more information go to:http://www.birdsthroughthelens.com
See below for a little promotional video we created.

Been absent for a bit. Many projects nearing completion. I will be revealing some of them very soon, but I though I would share a quick image I made on the Maine shore a few weeks ago near Belfast. One of my ultimate favorite little towns.

I just realized that the new update in Google+ will auto-enhance your photos unless you turn if off in settings. I noticed my sunset photo tonight got pretty ugly and I couldn't figure it out... for awhile. Also my green Northwest rainforest images are getting over saturation. Go to settings on the left drop down, and go to google+ and find photos and uncheck "auto enhance ." +Juan Pons +Rick Sammon

Here is a contribution for #nationalparksmonday as well as the National parks community.
Crashing waves at Acadia National Park. I made this image on the Schoodic Peninsula section of the park, a little visited area that has some spectacular vistas. I made this image during my Acadia workshop this past fall.
Hope you enjoy it!

There are a few places on earth that I feel a real affinity towards and Yellowstone certainly tops my list. I made this pronghorn image this past january and no matter how many times I have been there or how many images of pronghorns I have made I never tire of this magical place and it's animals.
Pronghorns are the fastest land animals (over distance) in the world. Yes Cheetahs can go faster but for very short bursts. I have been privileged to witness a small herd of pronghorns running at full speed and I have to tell you, it is a sight to behold.
If you know where to go in Yellowstone, you can get quite close to these gentle beautiful creatures.

Today is once more #nationalparksmonday and I am excited to share with you one of my favorite images from my "Winter in Yellowstone" Photo Workshop that took place just a week ago.
I have been wanting to make an image of a Bobcat in Yellowstone for quite some time, but have not been that lucky in the past. This winter that all changed, not only did we get some magnificent views of this beautiful creature, we got to make some great images as well. The bobcat was further away than we would have liked which in turn means a bigger crop than I would have preferred, but I will take it. Hope you enjoy it!
We would love to see your images taken in national parks around the world, so go ahead and upload them to +Google+ and simply add #nationalparksmonday to your post.
Looking forward to seeing your images.

The barbers chair at the old saloon in Bannack State Park in Montana.
What an awesome and well preserved ghost town in the middle of nowhere in the most awesome state of Monatan. What a neat place with lots of history. I was able to find a few bullet holes in the walls left behind by more than a few shootouts that occurred there.
Hope you enjoy it.

Ok folks at the suggestion of +Dave Ortiz I've added a new category for the DPE community titled "Introduce yourself." We would love it if you could take a few minutes and post a little information about yourself in that category.
+Rick Sammon and I are very fortunate to have met many of you on some of our workshops or events that we attend, but there are so many more who are listeners whom we have not had the privilege to meet, plus it would be great for you to also meet each other.
Here are some suggestions for what to include in your introduction message:
Your name
Where you are from
Where you currently live
What type of photography you enjoy the most
Your level of proficiency
Have you been on one of our workshops or events and if so which
What was your best experience on the workshop

Ok folks I have been a little absent here on +Google+ for a bit. Been very busy with my Winter in Yellowstone workshop, setting up new workshops for this year as well as a few other projects.
However I'd like to share a few images from my recent "Winter in Yellowstone" workshop over the next few days.
Here is the first of many to come.
This small herd of Bison we encountered on our first full workshop day on our way back from the Lamar Valley under overcast skies, but luckily we got some nice and sweet light falling on them as the searched for better feeding grounds.
Enjoy!

I am currently in Yellowstone conducting one of my "Winter in Yellowstone" workshops and we are having an amazing time. We have had some very cold weather, but that has given us some amazing opportunities like this "frosty" bison in the Old Faithful basin.
The day started with temperatures of -8 and a heavy blanket of fog, but quickly warmed up. Which made visiting most of the thermal features here much more pleasant.
Hope you enjoy the image.

Why would I write one blog post a day for 95 days? Why did I commit to write one blog post a day for a year? DO YOU CARE WHY? Please read along, there is something to learn.
Social Media changes everything!
All this started with my understanding of Social Media after reading Google plus for photographer by +Colby Brown. In short, Social Media work because of the following principle:
You are more likely to act on something should it be recommended to you by somebody you trust.
Read on and I will give you my little secret:

Due to the terrible and unthinkable tragedy in CT on Dec 14th, Rick and Juan simply could not record the DPE podcast scheduled to be released today December 15th, 2012. This was due to be our last podcast for the year. Out of respect to the families affected by this tragedy our next podcast will be on January 1st, 2013.

Today I am more excited about #nationalparksmonday than ever before, forgive the hyperbole, but it's true. Just last week Google introduced Communities into the +Google+ ecosystem and I quickly went ahead and set up a "National Parks" +Google+ community.
You can find it at:
https://plus.google.com/communities/108691835458737313319
You may be wondering what does this mean to the #nationalparksmonday daily theme, well the short answer is nothing, I will continue to promote and encourage people to post every monday, but now if you don't want to wait until monday you can post every day over in the community.
I am hoping that the National Parks community will become a place not only to share your images, but to also share information and tips between us all.
So head on over, sign up and start posting.

Are you promoting your Photography Workshop on Google+?
#photoworkshops #photoworkshoplistings #workshop
There is a new community for Photo Workshop where you should promote your workshop. How to get on board... Follow these instructions:
- Circle me
- Comment this post for me to send you an invite to the Photo Workshop Community
- Once you are in the community promote your workshop to the community
- Please take the time to invite your past participant to tell how great their experience was on the last workshop. This help a lot!
Thanks and make great pictures!

Do you have Photo Workshop "War stories" to tell?
+Rick Sammon is a very well known Photographer, educator and photo workshop leader. In this blog post, he shares with us a story that I think is important to us all that are considering getting on a Photo Workshop.
Have a good read and thanks to +Juan Pons for pointing this great article to me today.
Should you have stories to share, good or bad, please share them. This is the place to get heard and to help other fellow workshop participant to appreciate the value of Photo Workshops..

Thank you!

Otter Cliffs
Acadia National Park
Another of my favorite National Parks is Acadia, which is now just a short hour drive away from me! This past January first I found myself traveling to Acadia very early in the morning to witness the first sunrise of the year in the first place to see the sun in the continental US. And although it was not the best of sunrises, it was still very inspiring.
Will you be spending New Years at your favorite National Park?

Hope you will join me in posting your favorite images and help us discover all the wonderful national parks from around the world.

Snow Geese Sunrise
Bosque del Apache, NWR, NM
I am still at Bosque del Apache, and I have to tell you that the last few days have been nothing short of spectacular. We have had some amazing sunrises and sunsets. The second workshop session I am leading is smaller (5 participants) than the previous session (12 participants), but what is so awesome about this group is that 4 out of the 5 are veterans of my workshops. I am honored that they have decided to join me once more on one of my workshops.

Sunrise Snow Geese
Bosque del Apache, NM
During this Bosque del Apache workshop we have been treated to some spectacular sunrises and blast offs from the Snow Geese.
In this scene we had already lost most of the birds from the main pool and now we had a few stragglers flying off to join their buddies in the feeding fields.

Here's a shot +Juan Pons took of me and fellow Canon Explorer of Light Art Morris at Bosque Del Apache this morning. If you love birds, you'll love Art and his art.
Art is one of the good guys, feeling as Juan and I do on our workshops, that we are all in this together. Not all instructors feel that way, unfortunately. In fact, I saw that happen this morning, again unfortunately.
Art is here on his own workshop with +denise ippolito . Denise and I are leading a workshop with Kevin Pepper to Provence next year. Join the fun. Info at www.ricksammon.com.
Speaking of Denise, I watched here work today for the first time. She went out of her way to help all the participants on her workshop. She, too, is one of the "good guys."
Explore the light,
