Cheshire Cat Smile

This makes me think of the scene from Alice in Wonderland where the Cheshire Cat fades away, leaving nothing but its smile.  Like the Cat, Kelsey's smile never disappears!  Out in the park, from the day before their wedding.

What does it mean to share a photo from an album, and where do the comments go?

This morning I uploaded a photo to an album, then went to the album (refreshed it twice), found the photo (buried randomly in the middle), and shared it publicly directly from the album.  When I return to the photo in the album, none of the comments are on that copy, even after refreshing.  Maybe a separate copy got created in Photos from Posts?  No, even after going there and refreshing that twice, the new photo doesn't appear.  So where's the photo with the comments, and why isn't it the one in the album?

My Hole Is My Castle

This prairie dog guards either his home or a small missile silo in the Rocky Mountain Arsenal -- literally a military arsenal turned wildlife reserve.  Recent posts by +Howard Weitzel (Great Horned Owls!) and +John De Bord encouraged us to visit; we also saw bison, lots of deer and rabbits, and a coyote at a distance, plus a variety of birds.

My First Milky Way!

We're such city kids, we don't even see all that many stars where we live; Linda may have never even really seen the Milky Way before last night.  So we were thrilled to have our first chance to take photos, over Balanced Rock in Arches National Park.  There are lots of things wrong with this photo both artistically and technically, but I'm so excited to have at least gotten started!

I understand that you put whatever you like in the main stream now, regardless of my wishes, but G+ is useless if I can't see posts from the people important to me. I need the circle streams to reliably show me every post by the people in those circles, in chronological order. I'm getting random and incomplete selections right now, and out of order. That makes them useless. Do your science projects if you must, but leave us a way to get what we really want.

Mary Had a Little Lamb

Linda and I were hiking through Soprabolzano when these girls came towards us with the ugliest dog... Wait a minute!  I also think it's funny that the one girl is barefoot, but I'm not sure exactly why.  Sometimes I think I must have been good in a past life, to have things like this happen when I have a camera in my hand :-).

Fortius

Citius, Altius, Fortius is the Olympic motto: Faster, Higher, Stronger.  This is the Stronger part: the weight room in the U.S. Olympic Training Center, in Colorado Springs.  We got a private tour here with our group from USA Diving the other day (though we didn't see anything the public wouldn't except the real gymnastics gym).

I thought of this photo especially for #repetitivetuesday , not just because of the machines and plates, but also thinking about the process of lifting weights and the many hours of hard work.

Lucky Find!

Forgot to re-stock a few things before we left on this driving trip, so had to make a quick run to the drug store. Would you believe that Great Horned Owls have made a nest in one of the trees! I took a quick look and sure enough there were chicks there. I had to run back to the hotel to grab the camera.  Here is a good view of Mom and one of the young owls. You can see another youngster just behind, sitting on a branch, and the third owlet is off to the right of mom behind the tree branches. (The city has blocked off the area around the tree to give the owls some space from all the visitors.)

Light through the Trees

We had a wonderful visit yesterday to Zion National Park; of course I have to start with one of the odder shots I took :-).  Hotel internet has been scrappy, hopefully tonight will be better.  Yesterday morning it was 97 degrees F (36C) when we left Las Vegas; tonight when we get to Colorado Springs it should be about 28 (-2C).
