Curated by +Gene Bowker +Michael Earley and +Annie Irving, I just wanted to point out the care these Vietnamese commuters took to protect themselves from the sun: face masks, sunglasses, brimmed helmets, long sleeves, above-the-elbow gloves and knee-high v-toe flip flop socks. What makes it all the more remarkable it this was a sweltering hot day as well. I am one of those people who wears 50+ sunblock even on a cloudy day and I must say, I was impressed! :-)

Grand Palace, Bangkok, Thailand
Our visit to the Grand Palace in Bangkok coincided with the Thai traditional New Year celebration known as Songkran. "Crowded" does not even begin to describe it. And did I mention it was HOT?!? Nonetheless, it was an incredible place and well worth struggling through the melting humidity and wall-to-wall masses of visitors to see the beautiful, ornate architectural treasures.

This nearly-abandoned beach in Da Nang, Vietnam, was beautiful but so very hot! It was all I could do to step out of the shade to take this shot and then quickly scamper back under cover away from the strong rays of the sun. (Do you notice the angle of the shadow under the palm tree? Straight down!)

Marina Bay Light Show, Singapore
The laser light show at the Marina Bay Sands last night was delightful! Apparently not wanting to be outdone, just prior to the show Mother Nature exhibited her own light show with huge flashes of lightning in the dark, sultry sky. Spectacular all around! Singapore Waterfront
The Singapore Flyer (seen in my previous post) affords some of the best views of Singapore's cityscape and waterfront. We enjoyed watching the beautiful twin hulled sailboats as they flew across the water like giant butterflies :-)

Street Pipes
This street musician was setting up his pipes to play on a recent First Thursday in Portland. I'm not sure exactly how they worked, but there appeared to be oxygen tanks involved, perhaps as an air supply. Very interesting instrument! Does anybody know what it is called?

Trying out the new Effexy app
There's a new app in town. It's called Effexy and it has several great special color effects and filters. Although I did not use them in this image, the real-time blur effects are a lot of fun all by themselves. I'm just getting to know the app, and so far, I like it just fine.

I took this shot with #hipstamatic (using Mabel/Dixie combo) and then ran it through #effexy . It was a little too pixelated for my taste, so I grunged it up a bit and added a frame in #snapseed . Finally, I blended/masked the Effexy and Snapseed images in Photoforge2.
