Fellow Belgian 3D printer owners, VTM Telefacts Crime is shopping around in our community for someone to print a gun for them. We first enthusiastically agreed (being horny for media attention and all), but now declined (I don't want to be responsible for someone hurting themselves) and it became clear they didn't want to listen to any of our "this is a non-issue" or ethical arguments. They seem to be looking for naive printer owners (which we temporarily were) and are clearly out to spread FUD without willing to take a serious objective look at what's happening. They are not out there for journalism, but for sensation and fear mongering. Our community should not be at their service producing gun parts. If you are contacted, please decline because of ethical, legal and safety reasons. Let's print love, not war!

If you look at the genetic complexity of life on Earth and how it has grown over time, you can extrapolate backwards and try to see when life began. The hitch? It shows life as pre-dating the Earth itself. Whoa.

Definitely the coolest thing I've read about the origin of life in a long time.

Back in 2008 I bought a watchphone in China.

It has a touchscreen, SIMcard, microsd, USB slots, a camera (can make both pictures and video), speakers, BT, a flashable OS, a pen which you can hide inside the watch, removable battery etc etc...

I was able to negotiate the price down to 1080 Chinese Yuan (174 USD) at the time.

This was 5 years ago... so it's kind of funny to see the current "smart"-watch vendors struggling to get attention and claim "new" innovative technology.

So the +Telenet  #yelotv  Android app checks for root while loading the DRM Core lib, and just crashes without displaying a reason to the customer :

This is the reason the app just exits or displays "streamingproblem"...

To all laptop/notebook/... retailers in Belgium : The majority of people in Belgium speak and write Dutch as a first language, give us at least the option to choose a qwerty keyboard when we buy your hardware...

TIL : Don't buy a Nexus 4 if it's not available in your country!

I've shipped my N4 for repair to Germany, and got it back un-repaired. Now they ask me to do the same again and pay once again for the shipment just because they didn't do their job. That's 2 times around €40... they didn't offer a replacement either.

According EU Law (http://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/shopping/shopping-abroad/repairs-replacements-refunds/index_en.htm) : If an item you bought in the EU does not look or work as advertised, the seller must repair or replace it free of charge, or give you a refund.

For the BE people : MediaMarket BE will not be able to repair your phone even though you bought it in the MediaMarkt DE. I've tried it and got it back unrepaired because it's not a BeNeLux phone. You could drive twice to the MediaMarkt DE, but the chance thatth... more »

We normally do not put personal posts on this page, as they can be complicated matters and usually do not pertain to CyanogenMod news. That said, something is affecting us in a way it really hasn’t affected us before, and it’s hitting very close to home.

Within CyanogenMod, we have dozens of maintainers and hundreds of contributors; none of whom are paid employees. Yes, we get donations, but despite the jokes of yachts, helicopters, and private planes, it is really just enough to cover operating costs for servers and hosting. Occasionally, there is enough leftover in the team account to buy a device for a developer. What we are getting at here is that CyanogenMod is not rich.

Received my N4 back from repair today and... it didn't get repaired :(

A white line is still visible in the top right of the screen and the speaker is still making a buzzing noise when you make a call.

I paid to get the phone shipped to - and back from Germany.
I live in Belgium where the device is not being and sold, and thus not under warranty according to LG. I have my doubts whether this is conjunction with the European warranty law...

I'm not going to rant anymore on this subject, but I've made my conclusions on the Nexus 4 and customer service that goes with it.

Like I was telling you a while back, Gvfs has been updated in Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail, bringing a new MTP backend which allows users to access Android 4.0 devices which do not support the USB Mass Storage protocol, along with many other changes. Since it's unlikely for the latest Gvfs to be backported to older Ubuntu releases, I've backported it from Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail to Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10.

We've already covered a way to connect Android 4.0 devices that don't support UMS to Ubuntu, using Go-Mtpfs, but that requires to mount the Android device manually. If you upgrade to the backported packages in our PPA, you'll get seamless MTP support so when you connect an Android 4.0... more »

Apparently the below post is too "expressive" for some to cope with.
Please understand that my initial reaction and "childish" language usage is due to frustration, not due to hatred of the brand or model. 

Frustration was beginning to pile up due to several reasons :
1. N4 is not available in my country (and I don't plan to move to the US anytime soon) 
2. Stock issues worldwide (making it even harder to "import" one, and easier to break the F5 button)
3. Buzzing earpiece out of the box (Google it)
4. Grainy phones (Probably sw decompression, Google it)
5. Slippery glass back that scratches very easily (Google it)
6. Failing LCD (See post below)

All the above conclude that this particular N4 is indeed the worst Nexus I've personally ever owned.

Then and now

For a specific need in my family, I was asked to create an application to help my relatives to take "then and now" picures.

(The attached pictures will help you to understand - these were found on Internet, I do not own them)

The application is really basic (the apk link is at the end of the post), but I wanted to share it rather than letting it die on my hard disk.

Features:

* Open a picture from your gallery (Only from your phone memory, Picasa pictures do not work)

* The picture will be set as an overlay over the camera output.

* by dragging a cursor, you can ajust transparency of the picture and find the perfect place where the old photo was taken, when to 2 images fit perfectly.

I wonder how Google convinced LG to produce a smartphone model with the number 4 in it. 4 is considered unlucky in Korea because it's a homonym with the word "death"...

Used my Nexus 4 for 2 weeks now : "Meh"... I'm not impressed. I'm not convinced it was worth upgrading from a Galaxy Nexus.

I'm not sure what it is, but I'm just not feeling the Nexus 4...

I'm also not very happy with the build quality :
There's a Earpiece buzz while calling.
Volume-buttons have a squeaking/creaky sound.

How on earth do you restore a dropbox 2 step verification account in Google Authenticator after a mobile switch/factory reset?

The 16 digit backup code which dropbox provided during the initial 2 step verification setup doesn't work, and there is no option to send a text message code :/

2012 will be the first year that I wasn't able to get hold of a new Nexus phone.

The N4 is not available in Belgium, and I didn't manage to import one because of freaking stock issues.
