A great artist and friend has opened up a class for learning digital painting . He does fantastic photo realistic work .I highly recommend the class . Not sure if it's in english . But maybe you could use Google translation if you don't speak Spanish ;-)

Rough Google Translation from the site ;" In the online course introduction to digital painting will have the opportunity for a great artist in both traditional and digital media, as is Alberto Perucha , we enter into this exciting world, sharing his experience in two fabulous master classes, and teaching us techniques and tricks to start making our first works of art from scratch . Ideal both for those who have no experience with these tools and want to start, and for those who have some knowledge but want to deepen and enhance your artistic side, learning from an artist and teacher in the middle.
Moreover, the arthis... more »

I'm still a bit confused by deviantart's layout  ! I hate it ! I'm not sure how your supposed to go directly to the free stock photos . Other than a convoluted search . If anyone knows how you go directly to free stock photos there clue me in . Isn't there a group or section for it ? I know they have a separate website that has stock photos but I'm looking for their on site free stock sets .

Thanks for the invite ! ;-) My oil painting called Chivalry A Magpie like bird flirtatiously picks up a feather dropped by a Cockatoo . While another bird gets jealous .A love triangle the Magpie is trying to woo the Cockatoo . While the parrot gets all in a fuss ! ;-) The feather represents Chivalry ( like handing back a dropped handkerchief )
Acrylic black and white under painting with color oil over glaze .About 24x36 inches?
Bought by a professional artists wife who got tire of waiting for her husband to paint a bird picture for her ( ironic considering the story in the painting ;-) The artist was very good would have liked to see what his bird painting would have looked like in comparison to mine . The buyer had several large tropical birds . One of which she placed on my arm . A huge amazon parrot . I said something about hoping he's not a biter . She said something like... more »

Diogo Santos has been promoted to moderator ! Moderators have about the same abilities as the host or founder of the group which would be Stephanie ;-) But here we mostly make decisions as a group  . So it's best to ask around before making decisions that effect the group as a whole . At least ask Stephanie ;-)
Moderators are picked by interactivity with the group . Whether they are here most of the time and how personable they are . How much they provide help to others. So if you are not a moderator yet it is just a matter of being helpful present and friendly ;-)
So welcome Diogo Santos to the team ;-)

OK, I can't wait to get my hands on this tool-  free-hand sculpting in the air, using just a large pen-shaped tool?  wow, crazy.  still some time left to get in on the kickstarter funding and get your hands on one before they're in full production.

This is my steps to completion of the water image . The first step was just sketching the lines , shapes on the most predominant color blue ( inverted to orange ) . I used a grid to make it easier ( grid not shown ) no other measurements except for the size of the frame . Both the original and the final piece were the exact same size . So everything was even including the grid . The colors were taken from samples via the eyedropper selection tool . About a dozen samples . I also used more samples of color as I went . The whole thing was done in inverted color ( not seen here ) .Maybe I should have shown it that way but I thought it would just be confusing .Just imagine the first 5 steps as inverted colors ( Negative colors ) Then I inverted the image back to a positive and continued to refine the image . I think it's showing the steps in the wrong order they are marked correctly by their number though .... more »

Here's the original and my painting . I used 3 brush setting a regular brush nothing special then a textured brush and blend brush just to smooth things out a little . Mostly used a regular brush about 80% of the time. All done on one layer . So this could have been done with any graphics program. I used Corel Photopaint though .Took me about 10 to 12 hours . I did most of it in inverted color then inverted it back after being about 80% finished . Then did the finer details .

Does anyone have a suggestion about where to put large photographs and masses of them . So the group can get to them . Be good if it was by password only so we can restrict access to just main group members . They would need to be in categories also . DeviantArt ? Flickr ? DropBox ? Pearltrees isn't really set up for files just links to them .
Speaking of pearltrees . They still want to talk to me about functionality on their site  . So if anyone has any input on that let me know . I've been stalling them ;-)

Question , does everyone think it would be useful to have a "Resource Index" category ? Instead of just a Tutorial Index category ? Because I notice that we have things we need to link here like Brushes ,Photoshop add-ons and other things that aren't Tutorials. So far we have been putting such things into the Tutorial Index .We have to be careful to use the categories wisely because we only get a few spaces . They do get used up .
BTW the Art Index is so you can put your art Links in there . I think +Stephanie Valentin  wanted that for your personal Artwork not sure about if you have artwork that you just wanted to share that someone else did .
I would like if people discussed these categories more to help define them . Because we are so limited by how many we can have . And we should be making more use of them . Especially for people who are just coming into the group .

Fish Tier oil painting ;
There is a black cats reflection . There's also a mans face above the cats .
The painting is like the tiers of Heaven ( Top fish ), limbo ( middle 2 fish ) and hell ( bottom 2 fish ) The cat is like Satan the man looks like Benjamin Franklin and represents God . Not that I'm religious . It's sort of a satire of pet fish demise and religious absurdity ; )

This is an example of one of my heads;-) Uh I mean 3D heads I modeled . I mean it's not my head . No I mean it is my head ;-| I mean I made this thing ! ;-/ Made using FaceGen modeler very easy to do almost anyone can produce a head quickly and painlessly ;-) The heads are able to turn in almost any direction and the facial features can be changed in just about any way imaginable . Hair is a bit more involved though . Best to go bald ;-) I did ;-) These heads can be transferred to other 3D programs .

Thanks for the invite ! This is a sample of my work . I do sculpture , painting , drawing, photography etc... I'm mostly into 3D digital modeling these days .
The peacocks are an oil painting as is the water drop , the cockatoo and portrait of a woman . The mountain is HDR photography .Most of the black background images are flatbed scanner photography . The castle is a concrete sculpture . The brass spiked object is a prototype for a sprinkler , fountain . The bee is also a scan. The raven and Giraffe are 3D paintings ( painted reliefs ) The strange butterfly is a digital fractal . The cat is composite originally done in clay then molded and painted with a single cats whisker ;-) The snake head is a clay painted staple puller ;-) The flaming wolf is a photo of a lit Jack-O_lantern I carved.

Google+ grows to become 2nd largest social platform globally

Wow, that was quick! Like I had said before it was only a matter of time! It's also interesting to note the decline in Chinese based social media sites...

Google+, who despite being branded a failure or ghost town by large portions of the media, grew in terms of active usage by 27% to 343m users to become the number 2 social platform. Interestingly for Google, YouTube (not previously tracked by us as a social platform) comes in at number 3, demonstrating the immense opportunity of linking Google’s services through the G+ social layer. This is also a key indication of why Google+ integrated with the Google product set is so key to the future of search and the internet. We’ve got more coming on Google+ later this week as well.

My oil painting called Warhol's Lunch Grid morph , mesh distort , image wrap. The top image is my pencil drawing sketch and it's grid . I first drew the grid then had a grid on my original soup can label ( original soup label not pictured ) I used the original soup can label grid to transfer by sight to the new distorted grid . The distorted grid was produced with simple math and some guesswork . This process is similar to how reflections work . If you look at the mid areas they are fairly flat and stretched but at the edges the image is compressed . Same curve but because the edges are at an angle the image gets compressed . So not only is the images squeezed it's color contrast and intensity get more saturated . This is a bit hard to see in this image . The painting photo is particularly poor .

Water and reflections ; One thing about water is it seems easiest in oil paint . Oil is partly transparent and can move in smears . Water is like any other reflection , you have an edge , a mid point and another edge ( wave or surface  ). The mid surface stretches a reflection and the edges compress the reflection . So if you look at a curved reflective surface you see sharp lines at the edge that are highly contrasted because the space that the color is in is smaller ( Compressed pushed together by the angle ) In the mid surface area the reflections get pulled apart like taffy so the colors are less intense and less contrasted more of a smear . Kind of foggy elongated clouds. The color is spread out taking up more area ( defused ) .So if you think of water as colored clay being pulled in horizontal bands stacked one on top of each other . More like your not thinking of water your just concentrating... more »

Just a heads up to anyone asking to be on teams on pearltrees . Your better off asking here first . Because the communications from pearltrees is a bit spotty and sometimes we aren't using the same names . Also don't ask to be on teams that are high up on a tree ( pearltree ) Like if someone was on my Art section and something went wrong that might cause a problem with thousands of pearls in the art section below it . But if they were put on a team further in like "drawing noses" then the damage would only be to noses ;-) Because there are no further subdivisions inside of noses ;-) Sorry no nostril subdivision ! nostrils will be forever included with noses . So if you want nostrils you will just have to pick noses ! ;-)

I cheated I'm showing a reproduction of a masterpiece I did . I mean I didn't do the original which is a masterpiece I did this replica of the original masterpiece ;-) One of the hardest pieces I've done mostly because I was stupid enough to do it smaller than the original . So if you ever decide to paint a masterpiece paint really big !
This is only about 16 inches tall . I also did it on regular canvas I hate canvas texture I like smooth surfaces . This is oil my usual medium . The original painting was done by William-Adolphe Bouguereau a French painter . One of my favorite artists . He was a master at doing skin. Although this particular painting is not that good of an example of his skin work .This is better for looking at his cloth work which was also masterful .
I did this as a wedding present .Placed it in an awesome antique frame .

Here's how to find the history button in pearltrees .
They moved it from where it used to be .
If a team member has done something to a teams pearltree you go to History and it will help get deleted pearls back . Sometimes it can correct most of the problem . If it doesn't notify the pearltree staff from the feedback button which is listed along with most everything else on the furthest right hand top,  that 3 horizontal line icon . It drops down a menu with most every function .
Except history ;-/

My oil painting call "Chivalry" A Magpie like bird flirtatiously picks up a feather dropped by a Cockatoo .
She said something like "no he bites " ;-O I... more »

+mar poe gave permission to use this image to show this overlapping method to show placement and shaping differences . As you can see the mouth and nose are pretty good . The edge of the mouth is wider but the mouth itself is great . Same with the nose . The eyes aren't bad either . The right eye is only slightly off . The left is similarly shaped it's just a bit bigger and moved a bit to the left . The chin line is not that off either in shape just off a bit in size and pulled to the left . Almost as if her face had turned to the side. Same goes for the left forehead and hair . Both go upwards also .So the whole hair is shifted to the left and up .The right side of the face is very accurate  . It is very common for artists to have a lean to their work. It may have something to do with being one sided .Left handed or right handed . What I do to avoid this is flip my image every once in awhile tos... more »
