How do you greet your new followers on social channels?

Just curious how others were greeting new followers on social channels and any difference between a new follower (added to one of their circles) on Google+, new LinkedIn contact, new Friend added on Facebook or new follower on Twitter? Any differences or commonalities in your approach across the different social channels?

Auto-Hello Messages
In general I do think it's safe to say that auto-hello templated messages don't really work. These are generic pre-written responses that people automate so the second they get a new follower a message goes back to them. On Twitter you see this at times when you follow someone and you instantly get a DM with some type of templated non-personal response.

Last year, Zappos' user agreement was ruled invalid in court because of two crucial missteps. Online community owners and managers, especially those who rely on a user agreement or terms of use, should definitely pay attention to this story so that they can check with their attorneys and be in a better position to protect their communities.

Lionel Messi has just scored his first goal of the year against RCD Espanyol in the form of a penalty kick at Camp Nou as Xavi and Piqué flank him in celebration. +FC Barcelona now up 4-0. Great seeing Tito Vilanova back on the bench today. Seems a lock Messi will win his fourth Ballon d'Or tomorrow but who knows.

Amazon.com generated $9,823 in revenue every 5 seconds with 80 million monthly visitors (though would be more curious what their monthly unique visitor total was instead) for 2012. Wonder if 2012 was the year electronic sales ($25.8 billion) finally passed their book sales ($9 billion)? Surprised to find Amazon.com also sells wine & auto products though I rarely venture outside of movies and books when using it.

I do find value in LinkedIn's Endorsements and don't expect everyone to also find value as something like this can get very subjective. However in articles like this the main contention against it seems to be people endorsing incorrectly on skills you don't have and/or skills you aren't as proficient in.

This brings up these points:
* How are you vetting who you add as a connection or not on LinkedIn and how well do you know them that they are incorrectly endorsing you? It won't matter how LinkedIn sets it up if you have individuals you are connected with and don't know well enough and/or for whatever reason endorse random skills or propose random skills to endorse for you. If someone incorrectly wanted to endorse me for a new skill I wanted complain I'd reach out to that person directly and state that wasn't something I wanted to be endorsed in.... more »

Privacy & Posting Photos Online

While I agree with Randi that there should be digital etiquette involved in re-sharing of others photography online the rule of thumb is anything you want private regardless of site or settings you should never post online in the first place. In reality there is no such thing as a private photo the second you upload it to any site whether it's to a open or closed network and which G+ Circle you have them in.

Facebook photos remain to be the trickiest in that regard with countless stories I've heard or from friends that have inadvertently posted pics not meant for others to see despite having carefully gone over their privacy settings. At times Facebook photo privacy settings seem to reset with updates forcing you to audit it at times despite having already declared your intentions.

What books are you reading this Holiday season?

Normally around this time of the year I'm catching up on films (can't wait to watch one of my favorites of the year "Rust & Bone" again and as well I have a 1915 silent "Les Vampires" that is 15+ hours long to get through) I haven't seen as well as taking time out to catch up on my "to be read" pile of books. The books I've slated to read (either again or for the first time) include and/of course reading over a warm cup of Starbucks XMAS coffee:
