I've got an older Galaxy +Nexus phone that is rooted and has an encrypted disk. I'm trying to do a factory reset and wipe the data but attempting such just restarts with the existing data still present. I tried booting into recovery and performing the reset from there but since the disk is encrypted it fails to mount.
Any ideas? #android

Anyone that knows me knows that (1) I love +Google TV and that (2) I've been a huge Google TV critic for fragmenting itself by dragging its feet on being up-to-speed with recent versions of Android AND Chrome, as well as a general lack of integration with Google+. That said, I'm tremendously excited to see what having Jelly Bean and the mirrored Chrome release cycle for GTV means for the living room experience. I'm hoping to be able to run WebGL, WebSockets and other high-end web features in Chrome on my HDTV.
I've been running the Logitech Revue for over two years, not needing to scale-up because of the lack of features. But this announcement makes me confident about upgrading.
And, more importantly, how Hangouts, as it becomes an across-the-board unified messaging client, plays into all this. I've been wanting to use my TV as a telephony device for some time.

Live Reporting From Google I/O - 10 Start-Up Tips
How to Go from Weekend Hack to Funded Startup
Good day friends! Here are some great nuggets I picked up from the session with +Don Dodge and his incredible panel of start-up experts (http://goo.gl/eupUZ).
1) Having a good co-founder dynamic plays into if you could get funded or not. Show that you've thought deeply about your idea. Do you and your co-founders get along? Are you passionate and excited, and does that show when you're together?
2) You have 10 min in your Y-Combinator interview. Make those minutes count. When you explain yourself and your idea, get your point across in such a way that you inspire someone to take a meeting with you.
3) Accelerators are useful for 3 things. 1) They're a filter for bad, decent, and good ideas. 2) They provide education (including how to raise $)... more »

The biggest problem I'm going to have with +Project Glass is not destroying it. Three of the top things I want to use it for are likely not within standard operating procedures.
Boxing: I want to wear it while sparing to get that first person view. A punch to the side of the face will obviously not be good.
Jogging: Touch screens are impossible to use while all sweaty from running. Voice activated Glass would be much easier but it would constantly be in contact with my very sweaty head.
Tough mudder: Lots of mud, grime, and many chances to be knocked about.

IO, like every other tech gathering, suffers from horrible gender imbalance.
I wonder what the effect would be if next I/O +Google reserved 25% of tickets for women. I/O has a large enough audience that there would easily be enough female devs to take up the spots. I'm guessing that the vibe of the entire conference would be significantly different, probably for the better.

Projected Reality #MakerFaire
My friend, +Scanner Luce, dragged me over to a tent in the corner of the dark room at Maker Faire. "You have to see this," he said. When we were ushered to the line running out of it, I knew something interesting was coming. During the 30 minute wait, he and one of the staff members explained to me what I was about to see - personal, yet shared, VR.
What does that even mean?
When +Jeri Ellsworth showed it to me, I wasn't sure, to be honest. Even after the explanation. But several of the examples began to help me understand what I was seeing. Sure, there was the "move head around to view the world" aspect, but there was a difference. The glasses weren't bulky at all. Not even slightly. And this is with a projector and some circuitry on them. Yeah, a projector. Almost everything you need to create a virtual w... more »

Feeling a bit better about #hangouts now…
I like the "Snooze notifications" feature. This actually makes a bit more sense than managing my "available/away" status.
The stored history is great, mirrored over every machine, and being able to jump into and drop out of a video call again is handy (I upgraded a text chat to screen sharing in a Hangout to help solve a problem).
I created an image from inside the hangout (screen snap) and that appeared in a gallery attached to the hangout in the G+ stream. I was impressed by that: it suggests that hangouts could be trusted for archived collaboration.

Having been a 'male' programmer and now a female one, I can definitely agree with this article. It's amazing how much gender seems to matter in an area where it's only about your brain, not which genitals you have.
Back when I was supposedly male people around me seemed to find it normal for me to be intelligent, technical and capable. After changing gender roles, suddenly people seem amazed that I'm not an emotionally insecure, non-technical person, only thinking about make-up and making little babies.
The article also underlines the need to be just 'really good' at what we do as female programmers to show that we are capable. Just toughing it out, even when some dirty old guy is telling you how pretty you look and touching you a few times too often.
It's okay to take a shower after such a horrible experience, though :)

The new +Google Maps preview works how I expect maps to work.
I search for directions to San Jose, CA in both. The current interface tries to do directions from directions to San Jose while the preview interface tries to do directions from my current location to San Jose.
