Is Storm Chasing Worth It?

On my second storm chase with my buddy Mike Mezeul, we chased into northeast Oklahoma, east of Highway 35. I think that day was probably the last time Mike will chase storms east of 35. You see, once you cross 35, the terrain starts changing quite a bit. Flat fields and great road networks for as far as the eye can see give way to hills and winding roads with 50ft tall trees on both sides. Good for scenery, bad for spotting storms. 

So when we arrived at this storm on May 20th (same day as the Moore, OK tornado) we were right by 35 in Gainesville, on the TX/OK border. As it moved by us going northeast, we decided to let it go. The previous day of chasing was too frustrating, it was getting dark, and it was an HP 9high precipitation) supercell, meaning that and potential tornadoes would be rain-wrapped and both dangerous to chase and hard to see. more »

PHOTOGRAPHER RANT: NIKON

Nikon needs to know that we are fully aware of how ineffective and monopolistic their REPAIR SERVICE is. 

That their WARANTY offers are meaningless

And that their PRO SERVICE (NPS) is a laughing stock in the camera world.

How are you guys posting/uploading pictures?

I want to post more pictures on Google Plus but it seems to be a hassle these days (comparatively).

Am I doing it wrong?

Any other samsung users that sync their galleries finding it's becoming a clutter that every picture you upload creates yet another folder?

Why does it need to create a new folder each time?

Did I not get the memo about how to use this correctly?

I can't UPLOAD and POST in the same action anymore?? Please tell me I'm wrong and that I just missed the smallest detail.

Lunchtime Photoshoot
During our hangout her manager called and she was talking about getting new headshots. We considered the possibility of me sticking around for another day to do a photoshoot...

In the end we just found a wall after we got done with lunch and found some nice light.

The Victory Was His.

It's not the first time +Scott Jarvie lost his quadcopter... and probably not his last. We looked for a couple hours the night before and ended up going to bed with sad faces. 

The next morning we were at it again... and it didn't take long for Scott to scale that 60 foot cliff once he spotted his lost companion. "Reunited and it feels so good" could be heard playing in the background as these two love birds were once again...... one. 

By the way Scott.... you do realize your standing crotch-deep in poison oak, right?

Shooting in B&W

Here's one from pretty late tonight at the Chapel at valley forge. 

I actually shot this picture IN black and white because the big spotlight on the building was such a funky color i just couldn't get it to be a color I really liked... so I changed the settings to shoot in B&W.

 The light was shining through the leaves casting this really trippy shadow that I decided to use for some cool texture.

That's how I view fashion type photoshoots.

In fact sometimes I think fashion shoots are easier because the subject knows what they are doing way more than real people shoots and you don't have to worry about being subtle in most cases.

In response to recent TRAGIC EVENTS

I'm a little late to responding to the news of the RECENT TRAGIC EVENTS out east.

My heart goes out to the families and friends of all those many people that died in the recent attack. 

It breaks my heart that families will go on without their beloved CHILDREN who died way too young.

Perhaps one of the worst TRAGEDIES of the year so far!

WRONG TIME, WRONG PLACE
The people that died were people just like you and me in the wrong time and the wrong place and it's so sad that their lives were snuffed out in an instant.

Regardless of the confusing circumstances that led to their deaths, which are still being investigated, it is clear there are so many things that could have been done to prevent our 17 fellow brothers and sisters from this early death including 11 precious... more »
