Very cool! New review for 50 Shades of Decay, and Ann gives a shout-out to two stories -- and one is my entry, Rabbits. Enjoy!

Finished reading +Guy Kawasaki's book APE. I've been involved with the small press field for a bit, and I picked up some excellent tips. Recommended for authors and small presses!

Just nuked my Instagram account and deleted it off of my iPhone. Interesting story from the BBC. Looks like Instagram picked up some of Facebook's privacy manglers...err...managers.

If you're running Google Chrome, this is an amazing piece of work. For SF writers, it can help you visualize distances of other star systems.

The big news this weekend is HP getting out of the PC business, and their dropping their new line of tablets.
Even better -- they're having a fire sale on those new tablets dropping from $600 to $99 for the 16gb and $149 for the 32GB version.
Everyone is scrambling to get them at this price. ZDNet has a good story on it (see below).
Going through the HP Enterprise Business site, I was able to snag two of the 32GB versions for $318 shipped. Credit card confirms they pulled the funds. It took two hours of poking and prodding (good thing I'm an IT Guy for a Fortune 800 company!)
Should be delivered on August 23rd -- 3 days!

Saw the final Harry Potter film last night. I'm glad Steve Kloves was back. A fitting end to the series, although I'm going to miss all of those characters I've invited into my head for the last decade or so.

Back home now from Dinosaur. Good things I've seen:
- Flaming Gorge in Utah. Stunning during sunset.
- Walden in Colorado. The whole area around Walden is beautiful. Lots of green this time of year.
- Snow-capped Rocky Mountains.
- Wildlife: Lots of deer. It was a good thing I was driving 30mph up the switchbacks or I would have hit a few. Foxes, hawks, a bald eagle, rabbits that breed like, well, rabbits.
- Dinosaur, CO was actually pretty cool. The info center at the national monument had some interesting information and exhibits.
Bad things:
- Steamboat Springs, CO. Amazing amounts of traffic, crowds everywhere.
- Hayden, CO. I thought this was as home-towney as Walden, but then I passed a spot where some idiot dumped a litter of kittens on the side of the road. All were smooshed, including a gorgeous grey tabby with white socks.

On my way to Dinosaur, CO to pick up a pickup truck. I won it in a US Government auction for $786. It's a 1993 Ford F350 Crew Cab truck. Should be a beautiful drive through the mountains.

With dotcom valuations rising by the minute, the question of "when to sell" is becoming more and more important. A lot of people tell me I was smart to sell MySpace to Newscorp in July 2005 (it went for $580 million), because it recently RE-sold for $35 million (Go Specific/JT!). It'd be nice for me to take credit for that decision, but it was not my decision to sell MySpace (our parent company had control and made that decision themselves). Personally I can't complain -- I made far more money than anyone would ever need, had the time of my life, and was lucky in so many ways. But the truth is that if MySpace had waited a year or two, it clearly would have gone for single figure billions. What's more, If it hadn't sold at all, we wouldn't have been forced to monetize in a way that was against our longterm interests. Think of all the value Zuck has built by staying in control... more »

Guido Henkel has a great series on formatting eBooks. No, it isn't "go download Calibre!" He gets into the fine details on how to create a market-specific ebook.

More reasons why Facebook SUCKS: I set up the profile download, received the email my file was ready. Entered my password. Now, to prevent you from actually getting your profile to import into Google+, they make you look at tagged photos of people who are on your friend list. These are random photos, only two of which were of people's faces! I had to match up a dog's nose with an owner, which author tagged an anthology they were in, and match someone's Christmas tree to their name. Naturally, I couldn't, so now I cannot export my profile. This is the kind of crap that makes Google+ look better and better -- plus you won't receive tons of application notifications about pigs, mafia hits or whatever app someone joined (and that you need to block to prevent the Facebook-sanctioned spam from clogging up your profile.) Guy is very annoyed this Sunday...
