She's describing a game where one person stands against the wall, eyes covered, and the other kids stand behind hir. The kids can move while the person has hir back turned/eyes covered; when the person turns around, the kids have to freeze (if the person catches them moving, they're out).
In Spanish the game is called "el escondite inglés" [English hide-and-seek/... more »

Science Post of the Day - Today's Theme: Ecology
One-Third of U.S. Honeybee Colonies Died Last Winter, Threatening Food Supply
No, it's not because of Oprah's Giveaway of BEES!!!
Multiple factors — pesticides, fungicides, parasites, viruses and malnutrition — are believed to cause the losses, which were officially announced today by a consortium of academic researchers, beekeepers and Department of Agriculture scientists.
“One in every three bites [of food consumed in the U.S.] is directly or indirectly pollinated by bees.”

There is no one-size-fits-all solution for anything. That includes t-shirts and hats.
Everyone is different and everyone operates in a different manner. Some write better in the morning, others late at night.
Some are able to snatch 20 minutes here and there and pound out a thousand words.
Other need to schedule a couple hours to put down several hundred.
Do what works for you. Not someone else.
Experiment, test, adapt and adjust. Find your 'sweet spot' and tell all your stories.
Then make more :)

Only 6 days left! Still $3100 needed to reach my goal.
I would appreciate it if you can share my crowdfunding campaign and spread the word around.
Donating, sharing the campaign on Twitter or Facebook and spreading the word would help me continue covering Egypt’s ongoing revolution.

So Tammy Glotfelty, the same prosecutor who told the police to arrest Kiera Wilmot for possession of a bomb or explosive when she filled an 8 oz water bottle with chemicals to see what would happen and if it would make a good science fair experiment, felt that two boys shooting each other with a BB gun was merely an unfortunate accident and no charges should be pressed.
Science experiment? Obvious criminal activity.
Pointing a gun at someone's head 6 inches away? Accident.
Oh, and, oddly enough, the one who was arrested, though no one was harmed and there was no one around who could have been harmed, was a Black girl. The one who killed someone yet received no punishment was a white boy. How weird! Totally random, I'm sure...

How about this, fellow word-nerds? It looks like slang usage among younger people is turning the word "slash" into that most rare of beasts, a new conjunction.
This kind of language evolution is fascinating slash I need to post here more often.

College athlete gives up athletic career in order to donate bone marrow
Like the rest of the University of New Hampshire track and field team, Cameron Lyle, 21, joined the bone marrow registry in his sophomore year. After all, there was only a one in 5 million chance of ending up a match for a non-family member.
Then, a few weeks ago, the shot put star learned he was an exact match for a 28-year-old man on his last fight against leukemia.
He is now being called a hero after agreeing to quit his final athletics season so he can give the gift of life to an unnamed stranger who had just six months to live.

I have some adorable students!
One little girl came in early this morning to sneakily put this up in every homeroom. She put smile ones two days last week and it was a huge hit, uplifting many student and teacher moods. The other students don't know who is putting them up, she wants to be a secret cheer bringer.
Adorable. Not supposed to have favorites but...

I'm excited to announce something else we've been working on: Google+ Comments, launching today on Blogger. This provides you with some features that you won't have seen in other commenting systems; my own favorite is that it brings the conversation from G+ into your blog, so that the social media conversation doesn't get segregated from the comment thread.
This is a purely opt-in launch for blog owners: if you have a blog and want to try it out, follow the instructions in this post. We'll be rolling it out over the course of today!
