IVORY ANYONE!

Right now Poachers have entered a unique Elephant habitat in Africa to slaughter down all the elephants. For what? Of course IVORY!!!!

I have found this on the Dirt Market 2004 in Beijing / China. 
Is this ivory or not ? That's something I cannot tell. I have seen that this tusks are NOT in one piece. Those are puzzled together of pieces of ivory OR bones of something else.  Just view this image in big to see, if interested.
We have lived in Beijing 4 1/2 years and this market was one of my favorite to hang around for pictures. You can find there everything you can imagine. Also HIDDEN chambers with HIDDEN treasures. How to get in those. Well, make friends over the time with the shop owner and the door behind the shelf will open some day!

FLY BY

Wasp passing a Butterfly. I was following in a camp a few butterflies for taken images of course. I took quite a few. Only at home, while browsing my images on the PC I recognized this wasp flying like a jet through the images.
This was in Kruger Park.

LOOK MOM

Proboscis monkeys ( Nasalis larvatus ) in the jungle of Borneo. Little one was faster than mama :))
These monkeys are endangered, about 3000 are still roaming the jungle in Borneo. They are quite funny. Their sounds are like this "oh-oh". We humans say that when something stupid happened :)
Well, being endangered is quite stupid!

It seems the news for rhinos just keeps getting worse as they are targeted by poachers in ever increasing numbers. A good friend of mine Sam is trying hard to do something about this however. He is raising money for Save The Rhinos by running the London marathon. The catch? He'll be wearing a full-body rhino suit for the entire race! Madness I say...

AT A GLANCE

Cassowary in Australia. This one was captive. They are quite dangerous and aggressive!
These birds are nearly as tall like an Emu. Not quite as high as a Ostrich! As well flightless, for that they can run very fast. Around 50km/h - 30miles/h
The southern Cassowary lives in New Guinea & northeastern Australia.
Sadly they are endangered as well.

The Japanese Fisheries Minister Hayashi defended, comparing the practice  with Australiens who eat Kangaroo!!
Well, there are much more Kangaroos in Australia than whales around the globe!!

STROLL ALONG THE RIVER!

Desert elephant in Hoanib river bed, sadly dry!
There are not many desert elephants in Namibia, means it takes you a little while to find them :))
Those elephants are totally different towards cars as you see & experience in National Parks. They are very aggressive. Caution, no coffee drinking with them at all!!

FATA MORGANA  OR JUST  *ELEPHANT BULL*

came across this lonely bull in Etosha while checking out the Park. Loved the background island in the "burning" air with the fata morgana of water. Which I can assure you, there was not even one drop in the Salt Pan :)

TYPICAL HIM

This lion I have encountered in Etosha Park just when sunset started. He came with looots of females, many cubs ... many mouth to feed. But he does not care about feeding the gang, the female do this most of the time!

Corniglia, Cinque Terre, Italy

Cinque Terre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Beautiful little towns and Landscape. Hiking isa bliss, lots of steps up and down :)
Worth a visit for sure. Food wise.... a bliss :)

Ivory is nothing more than an animal's tooth!

Since last week Thailand prime minister announced to take steps against ivory trade, we do hope that many other countries will follow!!
Sadly many elephants have lost their life's already in the past for their tusks.
What is being done with the tusks? 
Why are the elephants are slaughtered, because of the Chinese growing wealth?

This elephant bull decided not to let us pass him. This "little" game went on for about 30-45min till we had enough. We eventually "cleared" the road that this big huge bull could pass us in peace.

CLIFF HANGERS

Bee Eaters on a earth cliff. They are digging a hole in there and built their nest in a little "cave/burrows". They really dig like the Swiss dig their tunnels. Amazing how fast, nearly as fast they can fly :)

"Broken Silence"

Yesterday I spotted a bald eagle on a dead pine along the Shoshone River, just a few miles east of Pahaska Tepee. I didn't even stop when I first saw her because I knew the eagle would just fly away the minute I even thought about stopping my car. I continued my drive to Pahaska, where I walked around in the snow a bit but didn't find much to photograph. Once I left Pahaska, I noticed the eagle was still perched in the same tree. At that point I thought I might as well see if I could stop the car and take a few shots before the eagle took off. Surprisingly, when I pulled up near the eagle (she was across the river), she didn't seem to mind so I took a few quick shots since I figured she would fly off at any moment.
