Snowflake Book! I need your help to make it happen!
http://igg.me/at/skycrystals - click here to contribute!
It's finally here, the campaign to raise money for the snowflake book!
The book is currently set to the following:
- 300 pages
- Hardcover, case-bound image-wrapped (I'm not a fan of "dust jackets")
- 8.5” square
The book will contain all of my snowflake images, and will detail every photographic and editing technique used in their creation – and I encourage you to try it for yourself! The book will also contain all of the science and physics of snowflakes that I can share without personally having a degree in molecular dynamics. I’ll keep the explanations easy to understand and graphic, but the science is fascinating and there are still many unanswered questions. The human mind will also be explored in this book,... more »

Muttart Conservatory
This photo was shot in one of the worst storms last year in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I used Lightroom and Perfect Effects to give the extra drama to the image.

Vdara & Vegas City Lights
I took this photo of the Vdara Hotel and the Las Vegas city lights from my hotel room on the 40th floor of the Aria Hotel. To get the edgy look, I used just Lightroom. No HDR, just one shot. Final touch ups in Photoshop were done to correct the perspective and to give the hotel nice straight lines.

New Bio Photo - Self Portrait
One flash off to the camera left with a reflector on the right. Locked in the focus to the approximate sweet spot and used a wireless trigger to get the shot.

Looking for a better way to track your workflow? I had a problem where I was tracking my workflow “To Do” list in an external Excel document that kept track of items on a folder level like key wording, adding titles, fixing images in the develop module or uploading the best images to my online gallery. This plugin has a set of workflow yes/no fields that lives inside of Lightroom with the catalog that can track everything in your workflow. The best thing, it is totally customizable.

Down by the River
It's always a good idea to use the rule of thirds when composing an image. Try to avoid always centering the horizon in the middle of your picture.

This has to be one of the most stunning time lapse videos I have ever seen. This video by Rob Witworth consists of 5 months’ work created from nearly 20,000 still photographs taken on four different cameras over the course of 40 separate shoots.

Solar eruption may boost northern lights tonight
A huge explosion on the sun has flung a wave of solar particles toward Earth causing an eruption that amped up the northern lights displays on our planet. This is the display over the city of Saskatoon tonight around 9:30pm.

A vivid and colorful sunset that I shot last Saturday at my Uncle Garnet's farm yard. He would be surprised how I pulled off making this muddy road leading to his pasture look so good.
Read my blog post for more info and a timelapse of this sunset: http://www.scottprokop.com/2012/08/sunset-timelapse

The Perseid Meteor Shower shot with a Canon 60D using the Magic Lantern software on the camera to utilize the intervalometer to capture the time lapse. This sequence consists of 151 images with a Sigma 10mm f2.8 lens shot at ISO 1600, 15 second exposures at f/2.8 on a Oben tripod. I captured the photos from about 11pm to 12am on Saturday, August 11th South of Churchbridge, Saskatchewan on a farm. The skies were clear but the odd cloud would creep by. I actually shot about 500 shots over 5 hours but the dew in the air built up on the lens and resulted in blurry photos after an hour.
View this full screen in HD to really appreciate it.

A large storm is brewing up over the city of Edmonton, Canada. I am perched on top of the Muttart Conservatory which gives me a wonderful foreground for the dramatic sky.
I shot this with a 10mm fish eye lens which gave me a wide view from the large approaching cloud to the reflections on the water. I used +onOne Software Perfect Effects to add contrast to the photo plus I also increased the sharpness on the pyramid and parts of the city in the background.

Shooting in the Storm
I wanted a image while I was on vacation in Edmonton, Alberta which would capture the cityscape showing the glass pyramids of the Muttart Conservatory in the foreground with the city architecture in the background. The thing I didn’t bargain for was a large lightning storm at sunset. I don’t take too many photos in the middle of a storm but this one was worth it. even though I got soaked.
This shot was taken in camera with the white balance set to cloudy to give the orange gloomy feel to the photo. I had the camera on a tripod with the lens hood keeping the lens dry. The only thing I enhanced in Lightroom was adding some clarity to give more drama to the photo.
