IBD is very different from IBS {Irritable Bowel Syndrome},

52-Week Self Portrait Project | 52/43
Afterglow

This week, I began to realize that I have 9 weeks left for this self-portraiture endeavor and I am pretty stoked to have another personal achievement under my belt. All-in-all, this project has really taught me about the importance of lighting in portraiture, and I hope to only improve in the months and years ahead.
From strobes to flashes to reflectors to diffusers, each has an important role to play in my toolbox and I anticipate this will to change anytime soon.
So, I give you an image with lighting and eyes full of wonderment as I look on to infinite possibilities...

Today was promotion day for my munchkin to the next level of her black belt journey...
She worked very hard during the last year respecting the code and living up to its standards with focus and discipline.

Week 20: Good Things Come In Shiny Boxes
Another week, another staged portrait shot composed through the use of a snoot strobe and the new #canon 60D.
This week, I could not wait for my new baby, the 60D, to show up at my front door and I was not disappointed when it did! I have been looking at all the different reviews on a couple different models from Canon, but for what I was looking for and in my budget, the 60D was the winner.
I had this plan to use it for my projects this week, and it got here just in the nick of time. This idea hit me when I was considering what to do for my +Project 52 B&W theme of Framed. Week 19: Generations
Another week, another staged portrait shot composed through the use of natural light and two generations.
This week, I shot a moment that was quite special to me and conceptualized what being a mom embodies to me. Unity, togetherness, love and maternal instincts to protect your young in such a way that you must be a mom (or dad) to fully understand.
It is the completion of a circle - like looking into a mirror and seeing all your hopes and dreams carrying on in someone else - your legacy.

HWSI - The Nature of Our Worlds
I felt quite privileged and honored to be asked to contribute to such a wonderful concept and charity.
When asked how I felt about being a contributor and why I had a desire to, this is what I said:
"For me, the "How We See It" books and projects are about celebrating our diversity and to me, what I take away most from the project is "seeing" those diverse perspectives in action. Not one woman/photog/creator/writer/etc sees the world in the same way - the beauty is in the uniqueness of our worlds and experiences.
We are all pieces to this big, beautiful puzzle of life and each piece we contribute to the project, in any form, is another way for us to see the completed picture, and the most amazing aspect of all? We do it all together...

God, I love new car smell!

Chasing Breezes
Last week, I spoke to and visually illustrated hard times and unfortunate circumstances in the form of homelessness, but this week, it literally felt like my house turned against me, which is irrational and illogical, and yet I still felt that way as the house reached an obscenely sticky 85 degrees on Friday night.
When Saturday rolled around, we began to deal. I think that is one of the most beautiful things you can watch people do, too. When the chips seem down and the cards aren't in your favor, we learn to adapt and just "deal" with whatever is in our way.

Week 18: When Going Outside Is Your Only Option
Another week, another staged portrait shot composed through the use of natural light and a grumpy model.
This week, I shot and processed my work in a rather sorted mood. On Friday, it became clear that the A/C in the house was acting up, and we were without artificial cooling. It made sleeping kind of nasty and it also made creativity for capturing anything virtually nil.

Something that has become one of my favorite parts of work is adding some of, in my opinion, the best quotes to my whiteboard in my office each week. When adding to this board, I pick quotes that have a special meaning for me in that week, and with this image, I feel that this one, by Napoleon Hill, was dual purposed for real life and for the GoogPlus community!

Week 17: What If I Were Your Neighbor?
Another week, another staged portrait shot composed through the use of natural light, a static spotlighting, and PS magic.
This week, I wanted I shot and processed my work for the +Style It! Shoot It! Share It! community April Challenge. While the overall theme was "What Is Black, White, and _____ All Over?"_ with a technical component of wardrobe or costuming, I chose to take a story that was quite clear and pressing in my mind and adjust the wording slightly to create my own riddle. My riddle goes like this:

Life Isn't Always Beautiful
Sometimes, I don't really want to be known as the chick who does self-portraits that are always glamorous or beautiful. I think it is equally as important to send a message and raise awareness for things.
Social media can be fun and exciting; a place to share lovely images of exotic places and gorgeous sunsets, but it can also be a way to share thoughts, experiences, and things that we feel are important.
While traveling this year, I felt drawn to the homelessness of the places I was at; it became quite real as I walked the streets of Chicago, and my heart sunk after each person I passed and each sign I read.

Had I been in Chicago this week, it would have been a much more impressive shot for the Week 17 +Project 52 B&W theme Night Light, but since it is not, I decided to share it with everyone anyway as just a random share.
Interestingly, when it is 20 degrees outside, The Bean is not such a crowded tourist attraction!

With an incredibly busy work week and the closing out of another +Style It! Shoot It! Share It! challenge, I was not able to really go out at night and find amazing cityscapes and other such "wow" night lights, but when I got to thinking about it, who said night lights had to be anything other than exactly that - night lights!

While this show has been canceled by ABC, they are still trying to decide if/when they will air the rest of the season...
Three episodes in, and I find that out.

Off Air - My Favorite Canceled Mashs Series
Don't you just hate it when you are really getting involved in a show - be it cerebral or comedy - and they cancel it and take it off the air? In most cases, they don't even give it a proper send-off, and you, the viewer, are stuck wondering, "WTF"?
Well, in honor of those moments, I have begun a new +Movie Mashup Tuesday series called Off Air!
In this edition, we have Shane Holsclaw, +Jason Jakober +Tai Mi and +Ryan L. Smith in one of my favorite cop dramas called FlashPoint, which was based in Toronto, Canada!
Sadly, ION picked it up and then decided to cancel it after that season. Well I say, "Boo them", and here is a mashing to remember the show for #moviemashuptuesday with +Mark Rodriguez and +Isabelle Fortin! ♥

When Being Plain Stands Out
While on a bit of a nature walk, which is incredibly common, once the cold weather passed, I hopped of the usual trails to lay stomach first in the dirt to get this image.
Again, there is a little in-camera texture from the use of my #lensbaby and the optic plates, but once I brought it home, touched it up a little in LR, I brought it over to PS to enhance the textures, used some layers, filters, masks, and adjustments to produce this final image.
Oddly, the one part that stands out the most is the one thing I did not edit in the slightest - the flower!

Rolling With It
I didn't have much time this month for the hang-outs, silly work/shooting schedules and such, but I still wanted to present my textured images.
This one, my in-camera texture, was taken rather early in the month while I was in Chicago visiting "The Bean". I took it with my #lensbaby using the creative optic plates to produce bokeh textures and semi-match the pattern of the plant thingy (I have no idea what it is).
I tried it in a chromatic scale, but it really popped more as an achromatic image. :)
