Samsung just pushed a 384MB update to my international unlocked i9500. Seems on first glance to have fixed some of the camera problems. Also unrooted my phone.

GS4 Camera Problems

I've pretty much settled on an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S4 on T-Mobile as my daily driver, but there's one problem and I'm wondering if it's only me.

The camera is really slow to start and about 1 time in 5 causes a hard reboot of the entire device. It's especially problematic when I open it from Path, but the problem happens all the time.

Are you having trouble with the GS4 Touchwiz camera app? Is there something better?

Stuff and Non-Sense

I love the hardware on the HTC One, but HTC's Sense 5 is just annoying the hell out of me. I'll miss the Zoe function, but it's time to install a new ROM. Unlocking the bootloader was easy, thanks to HTC (H/T), and rooting just took a few steps thanks to The Cult of Android (http://www.cultofandroid.com/26527/rooting-the-htc-one-the-right-way-how-to/) but now to choose a ROM.

Looks like Trickdroid is the only one people are using in any numbers (there's a CM 10.1 but it's pretty new). Here goes nothing!

I had such high hopes for the HTC One, and, indeed, there is much to love about this phone but here I am with the battery dead and it's not even 3p. Worse I've been charging it today whenever possible. Fail. Utter fail. Sigh.

The Oculus Rift is very responsive, but there are a few negatives. It doesn't fit over my glasses, and the resolution of the imagery is pretty low. Still VR head gear has made significant strides since I first tried it 20 years ago.

Neverwhere on the air

Neil Gaiman's radio adaptation of Neverwhere began last night on BBC 4 starring Benedict Cumberbatch. After a little digging I found a podcast of it - the first episode is downloadable March 22. I'm hoping they'll post all six!

Neverwhere was originally a TV show, then a novel (which I loved) but Neil says he always wanted to make it a radio drama most.
