Offer posts in Google+: Easily save and share offers with your circles

Millions of people follow brands they love on Google+ to keep tabs on them, get the latest news on products, join in on the conversation or simply to be entertained. Many people also engage with businesses to get great deals and discounts. Starting today, we’re making it easier to discover, save and share offers right from Google+.

We’re beginning with a select group of brands like +ZAGAT , +Hello Kitty , +Art.com , +NOOK , +Adafruit Industries  who can now share offers with their followers. If you follow any of these brands, you'll soon see offers from them in your stream.  You can save these offers directly from the post. Once saved, you can use the Google Offers app or simply follow the email confirmation on how to easily redeem the offer online or in-store.

And just like in reallife, if y... more »

As a non developer and simply a consumer, I was slightly underwhelmed with this years I/O key note

Where was that announcement of the next must have gadget? Where was the new Android OS. Where were the fireworks?

The highlight for me was the new G+ redesign. Especially the automatic touching up of your photos aka Auto Enhancement. Not to mention the 15GB free storage for full image uploads.

My next favorite feature was the syncing of app notifications across devices. Finally!

And lastly, Reminders for Google Now. I'm going to use that a lot, I can feel it.

Unfortunately I missed most the announcement about Google Maps, so I can't comment on that. I'm sure it will be fantastic.

But I was looking forward to a public release date for Google Glass. A mention of the Nexus Q. A sneak preview of a new Motorola X phone. Or even a... more »

About 14 years ago, I got a bad cold, and my voice became hoarse.  At the time I didn’t think much about it.  But my voice never fully recovered.  So I went to a doctor and was diagnosed with left vocal cord paralysis.  This is a nerve problem that causes your left vocal cord to not move properly.  Despite extensive examination, the doctors never identified a cause — though there was speculation of virus-based damage from my cold.  It is quite common in cases like these that a definitive cause is not found.

While this condition never really affected me — other than having a slightly weaker voice than normal which some people think sounded a little funny — it naturally raised questions in my mind about my second vocal cord.  But I was told that sequential paralysis of one vocal cord following another is extremely rare.

Fast forward to last summer, when the same patternrepeated itself... more »

Are +Kiddicare risking the life of infants?

Well I've just experienced the worst customer experience I've ever had courtesy of +Kiddicare .

Now let's start on a positive, the online shop and the retail outlets are great places to purchase anything related to children. The products sold are from well known brands and +Kiddicare also have their own branded products that are of decent quality at very competitive prices. So I'd happily shop here in the future.

So let's get to today's experience.

My wife and I were looking to purchase a car seat this weekend from their newly opened Hedge End branch. Yesterday we had a car seat fitted to my car to see if it was suitable and thankfully it was. So we were advised to return with my wife's car to check it was suitable in her car also. Some great advice.

That led to... more »

Here's a thought.

If you or your friends can't be bothered to contact eachother by means of email, instant messaging, SMS, or a phone call once in a while, then maybe you should start regarding eachother as strangers you know online instead.

How hard is it to have a one to one with somebody these days. Social networks destroy the bond of true friendship IMO. Instead we just spy on eachother via our profiles.

My two-week review of Google Glass: it all depends on the price

This week I gave five speeches while wearing it.
I passed through airports four times (two more in a couple of hours).
I let hundreds of people try my Google Glass.
I have barely taken it off since getting it other than to sleep.

Here's my review after having Google Glass for two weeks:

1. I will never live a day of my life from now on without it (or a competitor). It's that significant.
2. The success of this totally depends on price. Each audience I asked at the end of my presentations "who would buy this?" As the price got down to $200 literally every hand went up. At $500 a few hands went up. This was consistent, whether talking with students, or more mainstream, older audiences.
3. Nearly everyone had an emotional outburst of "wow" or... more »

This is why I'm not around much right now. I've ditched Google+ for the meantime to do some actual reading of fiction. Because you peeps talk so much sense most of the time :)

Anyhow. I read The DA Vinci Code years back and really enjoyed it. So I watched the movie and then watched Angels and Demons, of which I enjoyed too. Then recently I found out the fourth installment of the Darren Brown books came out and realised I wasn't even aware the third had been written The Lost Symbol. So now I'm playing catch up.

Considering I read about one book every two years, this may take some time. I'm not a fast reader, and generally I don't enjoy reading books. But these ones captivate me so I'm going to get stuck in.

And after that I still have No Angel; The Secret Life of Bernie Ecclestone to read. It's meant to be a real good read for us F1... more »

It's really touch and go whether I make it home in time to watch the F1 qualifying live today.

Family duties always come first, but hopefully I can watch the race live tomorrow whilst doing some much needed paperwork. Bloody Taxman

Doesn't help that it is on Sky Sports F1 only this weekend so I'll have to watch it on SkyGo which means I can't even watch it delayed.

F1 should never have gone to pay TV. I'd rather spend the money on merchandise than pay to watch the sport.

First Day With Glass

I wore Glass all day today.  It was light and didn't bother me to do so.  The battery truly lasted all day.  I didn't however take long videos or hangout for very long.  I am also not very popular on G+ and most of my email goes to my business account so I didn't mind the "ding" when I got an email or G+ comment.  Most of my co-workers were excited about seeing Glass.  Some were a little uncomfortable about it.  Overall the reaction has been positive and people aren't bothered by me wearing it in meetings and such.  I do live in Silicon Valley, so your experience may differ.  I found that my habits will nee to be modified.  For example I just need to tint my head back (which turns on the display) and I can see the time.  No more looking for a clock or pulling out my phone.  I also don't need to check my email on my phone or computer. I found my... more »

I'm confused. How can an NHS hospital go in to administration?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-stoke-staffordshire-22157149

People get sick. The hospital treats them and this is paid for by the NHS - aka the government. The hospital does not sell products or services. It is not a profitable organisation. It is a service funded by the tax paying public.

So how can you enter a hospital in to administration claiming its outgoings are greater than its income and therefore it is unsustainable. It doesn't have an income. It costs what its costs to make people healthy again.

And if hospitals can't afford this, then there is something fundamentally wrong with the NHS system. Either they are wasting a shed load of money at our expense, or we aren't paying enough towards the service.

Either that or its sounds like we'll end up letting people die... more »

Stop what you are doing and read this article now, for tomorrow may be too late.

We will all die eventually, sadly some sooner than others, but it is a fact of life. Have you ever thought about what would happen to all your digital data should you pass away. Currently it will be locked away forever, never to be seen again. All your family photos become untouchable.

Well here is the solution.
https://www.google.com/settings/account/inactive

Set this up, and if you pass away and your account becomes inactive for a period of time, your spouse/dependants can have access to all or some of your data. You choose. So please make sure you wife/husband wont loose those baby photos of your children from years ago because they are stored on your account. I couldn't think of anything worse. And as we upload more and more stuff, this could become a sad reality for... more »

This might be a crazy idea but...

I was just adding the phone number of a business to my contacts on +Android , of whom I know has a Google Local listing, and I thought to myself, I wonder if Google will pull the rest of the details from that said listing to my contact; it didn't. I even supplied the website URL hoping it may help; that didn't either.

So my idea is:

What better way to get more verified businesses on +Google+ / +Google Maps than to start auto filing our contact listings with up to date details supplied from those business pages, just like it does for people with personal profiles. As soon as you enter a phone number for a business as a contact, why not pull the business image, the fax number, company website, customer service email address etc etc from the verified business listing that matches that phone number.

Doing so... more »

Having had the chance to watch the developer conference for Project Glass I now have a better understanding of what Glass is, or is aiming to be.

Glass IMO is effectively a notification device designed to notify you in real time, as things happen and when they are relevant. You then have simple options to interact with the cards displayed. It is like having Google Now attached to your eyeball but where third party developers can also display cards, not just Google.

What Glass doesn't appear to be, is a media consumption device. By that I mean it doesn't appear to be something you would use to watch a movie, listen to music or read an ebook. You certainly wouldn't use it to write a letter either.

What I felt was missing from the demos was whether or not Glass links to your phone. And by that I mean I am left wondering if you will be notified about incoming SMS... more »

The same question keeps cropping up in regards to Chromebooks: Which printer works best?

So here is the one and only place to check out. A direct link to a site by Google themselves informing you about all the printers that work with Google Cloud Print. Basically, these were designed to work with ChromeOS. http://www.google.com/cloudprint/learn/printers.html

I myself have the HP Photosmart B110a and I'm happy with it. The ink is reasonably priced too

I do like the look of the Epson range which can also scan directly to the cloud ie Google Drive. That would come in very handy.

So there you have it. Go check out the site with all the printers and make an informed decision.

Name your price.

What would you pay for Google Glass?

For many the £1000/$1500 price tag for the early release Explorer Edition was way to expensive. But come launch day, what would you be willing to pay for this marvellous piece of technology?

From what I know of it, it's not a phone, it's not an mp3 player, it's not even a laptop. It's actually quite limited in its functionalities, but it is a pair of Glasses that you can interact with. It will understand your surroundings and give you prompts as you need them. You have gesture and voice controls, but can you type messages? You can hangout, but others can't see your face. You can take photos but can you email them?

There are many unknowns yet everybody seems to love the concept.

So what would you be willing to pay? Me? I'd have to say £300, but I think it will be moret... more »

#ifihadglass has failed if you ask me.

Not because of how it was handled by Google, but because people got overly excited and didn't understand what they were entering.

Basically you had everyday folks taking part, not expecting to win and now they have been selected they aren't willing to stump up the $1500 dollar price tag for the Explorer Edition. Simply put, they just don't have the money to part with. They should have never taken part.

Why did I not take part. Because I live outside the US. That was part of the rules...and I don't have the money.

So if you did enter without wanting to be selected, shame on you. These were supposed to go to people that would develop for the product, beta test the product, or showcase them to people around the world. JJ Abrams’ new TV show Revolution is due to premiere in the UK on Friday night.

This excites me a lot because I was a huge fan of Lost and also a big fan of Fringe. Unfortunately with Fringe I think I only managed to see the first 4 seasons because I cancelled my cable subscription, but one day I will catch up.

So back to Revolution . I know nothing about it, not what its about, not if its been a hit in the US, I just know it is JJ Abrams so I really want to check it out. This blokes imagination is phenomenal.

Has anybody outside the UK seen any of it so far, and do you rate it? Please no spoilers

The results are in

A few weeks ago we revealed that we were seeking Explorers to help us shape the future of Glass. To do that, we asked people across Google+ and Twitter to tell us what they would do #ifihadglass . We could never have imagined such an enthusiastic response! There were so many creative, diverse, and (sometimes) crazy applications. We’ve certainly learned a lot through this whole process and it’s inspiring to hear how much passion there is for Glass.

Now for the really exciting bit... we know you’ve all been waiting patiently, which is why we’re pleased to announce that the results are in. Over the next few days we’ll be sending out invitations to our Explorer Program through Google+ and Twitter. So, keep a lookout for tweets and G+ posts from @projectglass and +Project Glass  to see if you’ve been invited.

This new Location Sharing thing is pretty cool (if you are in to it).

If you visit the profile of somebody who shares their location with you, instead of seeing where they live you will see Currently in followed by the town they are in. Mousing over this text changes the main photo to a map of their exact location.

Pretty cool if you ask me. Just be sure to share your location only with people you really trust.

So Latitude finally meets Google+ with the new Android update :D

I've wanted this for a while. Now I can share my location with other people without having to spam them by sending Latitude friend requests.

A great feature.

Now who should I share with...

So here's a question for you hardcore #F1 fans.

There used to be a rule that banned team orders, it was unenforceable and so the rule got scrapped by the FIA making team orders legal once again.

So in light of the Malaysian Grand Prix 2013 where team orders were given and ignored, should there be a new rule making it illegal to ignore team orders?

I myself hate team orders. They should only be allowed if one driver cannot mathematically win the championship (it is a team support after all). Rules are there to give everyone a level playing field. What we saw was Webber at a disadvantage and Vettel take an unfair advantage. So this rule could potentially make things level one again.

Would you be happy for Vettel to be reprimanded for his actions ?

A sad day for #F1

Three unhappy faces on the podium. But a great race nevertheless

For those not in the know, or who don't follow Google as closely as many, here is the brand new Note application for android know as Google Keep (coming to Google Drive soon).

Now all your notes can be synced across all your devices and kept secure with you Google Login Account.

Activate two step authentication and these will be the safest notes you'll ever have!

Its simple and I like it. Bye bye ColorNote.
