Finally decided to get an off camera flash to educate myself and explore new avenues. Will the 580 ex II be the right choice or is it over kill? It do see myself using it a lot for portraiture and creative photography but I haven't been able to justify the price yet. The cheaper options that come in the form of Nissan, vivitar are not available here and thus are out for the picture. I will be using it with a 60d and will have good wireless capability to start with. the price difference between the 430 and 580 is about 100USD here so I'm leaning towards the latter for obvious reasons.

Suggestions and advice are welcome and much appreciated!

my most prized possession, a Toko P.W, made in preoccupied japan. i'm guessing it's about 65+ years old. Also the first time when google could not return too many search results :P

Just to give you an idea of the size, in the background is the front of the sigma 70 300mm! The Toko P.W. could totally fit inside the barrel
