Google Play Music All Access vs Rdio

What's funny is most people are probably going to be like "Why not vs Pandora or Spotify?"

Well, Pandora is great for what it does but it doesn't fit this model and to me that makes it a bad comparison. Spotify is also nice but I ruled it out vs Rdio a long time ago. Plus I'm sure we'll get 100 articles out there that compare Spotify to Google Music by bloggers who well...don't understand music.
(Also, as a tech dude in SF I like to support my fellow start-ups)

This particular screenshot shows New Music...well one of them does...the other shows a few new albums and several old albums. If you're a casual music fan I'm sure Google Music All Access is good enough for you, so far it's not for me. I think this deserves a much deeper dive. +Rdio may end up loving me at the end. That reminds me.  Google is looking for a couple of Windows System Administrators, one senior and one mid-level.  It says Linux, and we'll expect you to know your way around editing files, running scripts, etc., but last I checked this is for the Windows Infrastructure team.  

The Windows Infrastructure team (which I used to be a member of for about 6 years and was TL for at one point) is probably one of the most interesting opportunities a self-motivated Windows admin will find.  We have a team that knows Windows and Microsoft technologies very well, but also, in typical Google fashion, are adept at creating new tools and technologies to help us manage our infrastructure.

Especially important to Google is that you have some familiarity with scripting.  We're a pretty heavy Python shop, and our Windows systems also make good use of PowerShell, but if you're solid on adiff... more »

I was just talking to +Ricardo Cerqueira about how we use a bash script to color our terminal when sshing into production servers.

Excuse the horrid color schemes. I'll be working on that later and pushing to a legit github. I'm pretty sure this could easily be made possible on *nix boxes as well. Just never really messed with it.

Cent OS 6.4 up in 3.

That's without any tuning, templates etc...

Custom Kernels and CyanogenMod

If you've been around Android for more than five minutes, you know about how closely integrated userspace is with the kernel. For many HAL implementations, structs in kernel headers are used to communicate with the kernel from userspace via ioctls. For some fast-moving devices (such as most Qualcomm devices), this code is constantly being updated by our upstreams as well as ourselves. Since the userspace and kernelspace have to always be in sync, quite often we are breaking various custom kernels. It's usually just a simple matter of recompiling the userspace bits, so this is never an issue for us since we rebuild the entire platform everyday.
