Brian Buckley58,406Sharing My October 18 Engagers ShowcaseHappy Saturday everyone. Time for another Engagers Showcase Circle shareThis is a group of people who I interact with regularly, or who have engaged with me by commenting on one or more of my posts. It is not a "snowball"  style of circle. This circle is my way of thanking all of these folks for the enjoyment I get from Google+.If you received a notification you are in the circle. The Showcase part means that I am encouraging anyone who is a member of this circle to share a link to favorite post of their own in the comment section. We always have a lot of fun with that and learn more about each other, especially the newer members of the circle.Enjoy meeting the new people that you meet in this circle, and yes there are some new faces. Thanks for all of your support.Have a great week. #engagerscircle   #engagersshowecasecircle   #circleshare  2014-10-18 15:46:32270521864
Brian Buckley57,655Sharing My Sept 29 Engagers ShowcaseHappy Monday everyone. How about a Monday morning circle share? This is my Engagers Showcase Circle - a group of people who I interact with regularly, or who have engaged with me by commenting on one or more of my posts. This is my way of thanking all of these folks. They are largely responsible for the enjoyment I get from Google+.If you received a notification you are in the circle. The Showcase part means that I am encouraging anyone who is a member of this circle to share a link to favorite post of their own in the comment section. We always have a lot of fun with that and learn more about each other, especially the newer members of the circle.I have gone back to a smaller circle this time after experimenting with some larger ones the last few times out. For a few weeks I was trying some larger circles. It really did not increase engagement, so I have sharpened my pencil again. the hardest thing for me to do is exclude someone, but because your inclusion in the circle isd a recommendation by me I have to be tough ;)Enjoy meeting the new people that you meet in this circle, and yes there are some new faces. Have a great week. #engagementshowcase   #engagementshowcasecircle   #sharedcircles   #sharedcircleoftheday  2014-09-29 16:05:402011743595
Brian Buckley57,256Sharing My Sept 13 Engagers Showcase CircleHappy Saturday. Here is my latest circle of engaging plussers. Again with this post I am giving away a special prize with this share. Make sure you read the entire post to see how to qualify for the giveaway! As is my custom I am also recommending you check out +Pam Adger profile and add her if she's your cup of tea.  Pam is an amazing, articulate, kind person. Some of her posts don't suit everyone's tastes, so she doesn't like to be included in a mass circle share, but I love her and I think you should check her out.READ ON - GIVEAWAY INFORMATION TO COMEThe Engagers Showcase part means that I would love for you to share a link to one of your own recent posts in the comment stream here. That is a unique feature of this type of circle and it's a lot of fun. It also gives everyone a chance to learn a little bit about why I like to have you in my circles, and if they would like to add you to your circles. You'll need to use a public post or Google plus won't give you a link to it. There are lots of new people in this circle. This is your chance to make some great new connections. Here's the second bonus for reading this far. You have a chance to win one of our coveted "Blue Footed Boobies" tee shirts. Everyone in this circle (plus Pam) who shares a link to a post will be added into a new circle.  We will give one member of that new circle a coveted Blue Footed Boobies tee shirt as pictured in this post: http://goo.gl/2MJGE4 - in support of breast cancer research. If you don't have a public post of your own that you would like to share you can include a link to someone else's awesome post that you like.SHARING COMMENTING PLUSSINGAll the above are welcome and appreciated, but please do any of the above for your own reasons. You are in this circle already because of our interactions or because I admire what you do online and I want to recommend you to others. This is not a snowball circle. I curate like crazy and make this circle up based on interactions on all of my posts and from my go-to peeps. You can count on this croup to be awesome at engagementThere are some people who I follow that don't like to be included in a mass circle share. This is because they feel that their particular brand of googling is not everyone else's cup of tea. +Pam Adger  is one of those folks. She has a very wide variety of tastes and so if you put the effort in to read this post I'm rewarding you by recommending that you add her, too. She finds a lot of people add her only to  remove her from their circles later. I would love for you to check out her profile. Moe Tousignant6,227RPG Circle ShareI hadn't done these in some time but decided to start up in the new year. Earlier this week I shared my first circle, my A circle. What you have here is my B - RPG Gamers circle. These are all G+ users who's name they have chosen to use start with the letters B. Everyone in this circle should have something to do with RPGs in some way. They may be a designer, a writer, an editor, an artist, a publisher, a fan, an edition warrior, a blogger, a podcaster, etc. If you do grab some of these people you should take the time to say hi! The best way I've found to do this is put them into a "New People" circle, send a message out to that new circle and then split the people up into whatever circle system you choose to use.2014-01-09 22:25:56205213

Some of you have no doubt noticed, as I just did, that it's quite a lot smaller than usual. Perhaps my content was especially shit this week... or perhaps the fact that I'm getting ready to move has meant I posted less stuff. Who knows?Anyway, those of you who are reading this are probably following me, which means you probably share some interests with me, and therefore with them. So, add the #circle ! Add it now! Make your G+ world a better place! Thanks to everyone who commented. Have a great weekend, and don't do anything I wouldn't do... unless it seems fun. I think this week in particular has had some great discussions, and I have these people (and, I think we can all agree, my own brilliant topics and shining discourse ^.^) to thank for that. So, thank you all! If you're reading this but aren't in the #circle , there is an easy solution - share this circle, or anything else in the coming week, or better yet contribute to the discussions which form a tiny piece of the amazing G+ experience. If you're being notified, you're in it. Today I am grateful for jealousy pictures food pr0n solitude.

Yes. That's right. Solitude.

The rest of the household is not here. Of course I miss them. However, nobody eats fish. And with them gone? There are zero interruptions. I can get rid of the smell before there are allergic reactions. Today I started cleaning house; there's no one to ignore me when I ask them to do something. Errands happened -  without fourteen txt message requests. Then there was grilling.

I grilled. Oh ho ho. Wow. I wish I could have done this for a thousand people to have everyone over.

To start, I got some fresh, wild salmon - third of a pound. It's in the budget this week thanks to petrol dropping to $3.03 a gallon in the  back woods of CT. I hauled out the alder planks and let one sit in water with a tad of salt. Finally got to three days of email notifications.<... more »

Today I am thankful that a game came together. D&D. RPG. Via Hangouts and Roll20. The last few years have seen a lot of cancellations for me, starting with GenCon three years ago. Last month, both monthly games set for the same weekend cancelled. One day after another. This month one of my two monthly games cancelled. So when today's happened, that was grand!

Here's a map. To clarify, I was playing, not GMing. I still drew a map. Remember the old Mapper role? I enjoyed drawing it out as an art exercise and a remembrance. Sometimes a good old fashioned it-makes-no-sense dungeon crawl is a good romp with friends.

This all happened via Hangout. That was a huge new experience for me. I've been in one before, but this added the Roll20 platform. The missing tabletop element? Found.

Now mind you, I bet that I could do a FATE Core... more »

Today, Friday November 28, 2014 I am grateful for sleep. The kind of 11 hours* that comes after a peaceful holiday with family. Which comes on the heels of cooking a long meal and shoveling for a hour and a half. It was preceded by an hour and a half of shoveling twelve hours before. That's like double sessions right?

I woke up shortly before 9. About 7 minutes before to be precise. It was sunny and beautiful out. Colder than a witch's teat. (Not that I've ever met a stereotypical witch and I'm quite sure I'd never be asked to do that temperature check. But hey what an expression?) The sun and occasional winds had begun blowing ice down upon the driveway. Free ice cubes for everyone!

Then there was this lone leaf. Lying there in the midst of icy carnage. Enjoying the sun, even though its chlorophyl had long gone. Did it know that it was in transition from life to... more »

Humans are more akin to flowers. We blossom when younger, and the stalk and plant remains until far later in the year. Except that's not quite right. We are not leaves or blossoms. We are the entire tree. So too do the trees need rest. They shed their hair in a burst of glory, shrug, and settle in for the winter.

Winter has come. Sleeping in seems easier, more allowed? Did you get rest today I hope my friends?

*old books with treasures inside - the subject of these photos
*Amtrak getting trains back and operational so my daughter can return to see this stuff in person
*friends of many a decade who turn up with this carton of plays
*recovering from colds
*great people on the internet that you get to share with

Makes you wonder who this chap was and where his books journeyed doesn't it?

I was damn grateful for another chance to go for a run with my Dad. Sure he'll probably make 93 (he's 73), but I don't expect he'll be running for another 20 years. I do expect he'll have some good years before then. Of course, there's a catch.

"Only if you don't go too fast for me," he says the night before when I talk him into it.

Dad runs at 11:30 a mile. I run a little faster. I had to find a solution. Aha! Get up and run a 5K before running with him. Push the pace hard, like it's a race. That worked. (Okay I entered the time wrong. I was running about 7:33 not 7:03.)

Around the village I went, got my gulp of water from the spring, and got back in time to do another two miles with Dad. (And that was just the start of the day.) Out onto the marshes, along the boardwalk, clouds shuffling off... more »

Life

adjusts
berates
soothes

When you breathe it in.

anger of manager awaits - daily
simplicity prevails
Sean of the Other Side of the Globe returns

confusion and wonder poet dialogue continues
board games prevail in the eyes of RPGs
still missing so many

Brisa breathes in bright backyards dimming eyes tree wards

Colds suck.

The dog still needs walking. Curse it. He's old. We love him. More later maybe. Maybe?

Here's a fellow who was 97 in July 2014. And passed on since then. I find his ability to forgive amazing. He survived for some reason through a lot of trials. I like his observation about politicians and Hiroshima.

Maybe I should see this movie? Anyone seen it?

Okay music and Star Wars fans*, if you also like the Gotye original this is great. And an excellent parody.

*Especially those of my generation or older who saw the originals in theaters and who enjoyed the first trilogy.

I love the original version of this song, the first time we heard it was driving through Canada on the AlCan... This one is clever, my husband says this video was made in the person's garage and is still better than 1, 2, and 3.___Okay music and Star Wars fans*, if you also like the Gotye original this is great. To start, I got some fresh, wild salmon - third of a pound. It's in the budget this week thanks to petrol dropping to $3.03 a gallon in the  back woods of CT. I hauled out the alder planks and let one sit in water with a tad of salt. Finally got to three days of email notifications.

Meanwhile I got an avocado, and salad fixins. A perfectly ripe avocado as it turned out. The universe smiled on me today. Lit the grill. Poured a glass and toasted the quiet. Got the salmon out of the fridge. Cranked up my music. High.

Found the Memphis Meat dust from the ribs. http://amazingribs.com/recipes/rubs_pastes_marinades_and_brines/meatheads_memphis_dust.html Rubbed the salmon down with olive oil and threw on the meat dust. (Knowing full well that by planking it I would lose it turning fully into a sweet glaze in exchange for extra smoke flavor that would nibble the ears of the dust playfully. (Which turned into a semi glaze with this lovely little crunch texture actually.)

Grill got hot. On went the plank with the salmon. 14 minutes later, I poured out my second glass - the last of our local honey infused hard cider from Hogan's. Sat down and slowly, slowly ate. Savored every bite. Salmon then a piece of avocado. Tender and sweetly smoky switched over to cold luscious avocado with a tour through the cider and back to the salmon.

If the brain were wired for mindful eating that caused food orgasms, I think I was there.

Now you all should hate me.

I'm sorry. Well, no I'm not.

This was my dinner. I would gladly give up the solitude for good company.

I am sure glad my hands don't shake. How did I get to 48 anyway??

About a decade ago, when my former mother-in-law Melba was still compos mentis, I got to fancy slicing cucumbers. Okay, fancy being an exaggeration of "thin sliced". So I sliced them thinner. (This cuke is not so thin sliced as then.) "Like paper" she said at one point.  And paper isn't wet, but I knew what she meant.

When you don't have your hands left to you, what do you have? Each time I can still rely upon them is grand. Close. Important. You need your hands, your muscles, your reflexes.

So glad I still have them. I hope you do too.

Moseying on toward posting the rest of this album. So, there's one that I just cannot describe. It is weirdly abstract beyond the pale. Part of my mind though still whispers - from long ago discussions at the UMass Science Fiction Society - "It's the triple-breasted whore of Eroticon VI." I forget how that joke came about but the line has lingered. The other one illustrates my love of regular or consistent shapes and their interplay. As I gaze momentarily at it I suspect that lunar phases were in the back of my mind? It could be a satellite interrupting an analemma. Who know?

So thank you for viewing and I hope you enjoy! Do please share your own work with me.

As I gaze momentarily at it I suspect that lunar phases were in the back of my mind? It could be a satellite interrupting an analemma. Who know?

So thank you for viewing and I hope you enjoy! Do please share your own work with me.

Every time I think the world has lots of horrible things in it, I read something like this and realize it's getting better. Whoever decided that human sacrifice was a good idea in the past, well stay there please.

Man this sucks that someone died. Crashes happen when you try new things, seek glory, reach for the stars. That someone died is terrible. That the other pilot lived is good. This will not stop the reach for the stars. It may delay it for a moment. Here is to the men and women who bring us into space. They number among my real heroes.

Two more. One awfully quick - showing my weird puzzlement about screens if nothing else. Another inspired by looking through www.lonely-isles.com. I do need to add color to that. I may yet?

Haha! Before and after. Underdog and overdog. Roid. Android.

This doodle was unfinished when I took the photos. That's when I realized it was time to refurbish. Fill out. Complete. And I went back to it. I did it. Finished. And got close, really close, to the design that was in my mind's eye to start with.

So thank you so much when you visit. I do hope you like my efforts and I would love to see yours? Please tag me in. And share with others. :)

Good evening everyone! Tonight is Day Five (the last) of my #fivedayblackandwhitechallenge.* Many thanks to +Nicole H   for the invitation! I would like to invite a photographer circle who has done some good work and yet flown under the radar: +Doug Welch

The suggested challenge format is easy: post one black and white photo each day for five days, tag the person who invited you, tag someone you would like to invite and use the #fivedayblackandwhitechallenge hashtag. If you're busy, no worries! Thanks for viewing and participating.

This has been a really neat excursion outside my comfort zone. I like it a lot. If you haven't done so, please search that hashtag and enjoy!

I would like to invite +Phill Connell  if you haven't already been invited to join this fun. At least I don't think you have been. It's getting hard to find someone who has not been tagged already.

Good morning! I was tagged to write out 5 random facts about myself. Thank you +Susi Q . :)

1. My left has 20/50 vision. My right eye has 20/400. Yes, without my glasses I may be legally blind. (Does that make me illegally blind right now?)
2. I have run one marathon. With a bad chest cold.
3. People used to say I looked like Matthew Broderick. When I was a lot younger. Now they say I look like Robert Downey Jr.
4. I have as many good friends via the Internet now as I have by meeting folks in person.
5. I am having trouble thinking of a 5th random, interesting fact. The town I live in is called Collinsville, but there's no relation.

I shall tag some of my frequent friends and visitors: +Michelle Beissel +Ben McFarland +Amy O +Maire Thompson +Grace Carlyle +Deanna Elliott +Dryade Geo +Nicole H  +Julia Robertson +Juan Ochoa +Carole Rigonalli  Anyoneelse who wou... more »

Today I am thankful for the air air flow through me and you and light that washes over me and you and smells that move through my and your nose into our brains. That's living. Drink deep of it.

Friends of a long time past are moving. Have moved. Left a place with a lot of history and took their daughter to a new home. The old place needed stuff hauled. Things removed. Cleaning. I had an opportunity to show up for some hours of honest labor.

Wasn't it convenient that there was this awesome park on the way? One that I had never stopped in before today? You would think in 24 odd years I would have stopped already. Nope.

I am so glad that I did today and that I can share images with all of you. Also, I'm happier that I could help friends do things.

Today I give thanks to the dreamers, imagineers, and storytellers of the past. Where would we be without imagination? Without tales to excite our minds and push us outward to explore? To advance.

(Today was a good day to spend in meatspace: errands, kid to doctor appointment, a hike to take some photos, a chat with a friend, and then dinner with one of my best friends and his new lady.)

Outside, today, I found rocks. Enormous rocks, tumbled down a hillside like pebbles. It must be where a glacier scraped and twisted to scratch an itch and shook rocks from its moccasins. There they were, moss-verdant and resplendent, attended by live trees and aging stumps.

How it looked like a giant must have put them there. Can you imagine? If you see the world from the human perspective, and think humanity did most everything, how do you explain rocks... more »

How it looked like a giant must have put them there. Can you imagine? If you see the world from the human perspective, and think humanity did most everything, how do you explain rocks too large to move? All left in a pile, waiting for the child at play to return, scoop them up, and take them home.

Our ancestors had imagination, developed dreaming, and found ways to invent stories that were not true yet rang true. And that ability propels us forward.

We could not have reached the Moon if we had not dreamed about it first. Surely if we do not kill ourselves and our world we will reach sites undreamt of yet.

I am grateful that the boy was content tonight. Liam had a swim lesson. Mainly, he moved in the water and ignored the instructor. She was young and excited to teach the two girls who had their noodles and really wanted to learn. So it all worked out.

Except I felt like I should have stepped in. That was SWLU's advice. As the child of two teacher's though I have a different expectation. Isn't that part of how the world goes? So many different patterns. Do they match up?

Well he went up to bed early and happily so there's something to be said for just getting him into the water.

Two more! As always, thank you for visiting. I do hope you like some of what there is to see here. For those of you who stop frequently, you may have figured out that I'm a much better at abstracts than at art. So today's two are in that family. The v-shaped one with the ovals keeps making me think "weird alien music". Heh.

Mathematical and visual analysis of the world's city patterns. It makes sense. I find it fascinating that Boston may be more comfortable to Europeans due to the "pre-auto" settlement patterns. Or in other words because it was laid out in a similar fashion.(Except the Back Bay is more like modern cities...)

Found.

Now mind you, I bet that I could do a FATE Core or similar RPG via Hangout, no additional platform needed. In fact, I'd love to. And I'm seriously thinking and when and how. Because gaming needs to happen, and there hasn't been enough lately.

Today was a good day.

Two more doodles. One was inspired by the evolution of knowledge transmission and stored wisdom. From clay tablets through CDs to ? The other was a tree. A tree with long dangled leaves like a willow, but not a willow. This took me a long time to do. I did leaves on every branch except where I went all artsy and just made it look like a kid had stripped a lot of leaves off a few withies. That was fun to do. It truly made me appreciate how much work goes into art, and how valuable artists and creators are.
