Right. I see your damn goblet squats with a balanced weight challenge. I raise you one awkward milk crate full of old vinyl and four times through barehanded. No gloves +This is Fit Quickie Workouts .

For the rest of you wondering this crazy after workout photo is brought to you by the letter J for Jobstress and the number 4 for the number of times - multiplied by 15 - I gripped this damn crate to hoist it up and down in a  mothereffing squat cause I can't find a 60 pound bag of dog food.

Review: Akaela by +E.E. Giorgi

Excellent cover. [Contains potential spoilers. I received a free review copy. Grmf Amazon not letting me post it.]

This is a bildungsroman with high shock value (for me) at the end. The author’s voice starts slightly awkwardly - this is a new genre for her - then builds stronger and stronger throughout. We meet the title character and her brother immediately, and try to glean understanding of the strange, sad, fading world they live in. Hope is hard to come by, yet it grows even as the youths of the story struggle against adversity. I found myself effortlessly turning pages wondering what was next.

Technology blends with biology and future shock in the novel’s background. (A certain amount of techsplainin happens probably due to the YA audience.) There are excellent action scenes, dramatic moments and tough decisions. It is a harsh world.

I found myself ultimately deciding to give this four and not five stars for personal reasons. Growing up, I read many a Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew or Tom Swift novel. Self-contained, they always ended in triumph. Akaela does not end in triumph. It ends wrenchingly, almost despondently. The truth comes out in a powerful way, the coming of age adult birth is fraught with shock and betrayal, and the world changes.

It is effective.

One can see where the author is going. There are stories to be told in this world, with these heroes, and this is the setup. The real world is a harder place than that of my youth (to me), so fiction can mirror our struggles. It is still wrenching to think of my 13 year old reading this book and trying to come to grips with the result. Or asking me questions. That makes it successful in my mind, and yet it does not match the genre. Hence the rating. And it's power.

Now let me tell you where it succeeds in its genre. The teenagers, the protagonists and their friends embody childhood dreams and hopes with their cyborg abilities and powers. (These come at cost. You’ll have to read the novel to see.) They use them. The passages describing the title characters personal moments with her special modification brought me right into my minds eye. That was well done.

Akaela succeeds. I can imagine myself in the story oh so well. I look forward to sequels.___

Colliding Spiral Galaxies NGC 2207 and IC 2163

In this image made by the Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 on the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope we can see the colliding spiral galaxies NGC 2207 and IC 2163. They are about 80 million light-years away. NGC 2207 is in the process of stripping away stellar material from IC 2163, in about one billion years the two galaxies will have merged into one.

That doesn’t mean someone outside of that age range can’t join us – please do! It means we know that your needs are vastly different than the needs of the uber-resilient 20-somethings, and our programming honors that.

All of the fitness content – especially online – is geared toward people ages 35 and under. (Including my   content. :::looks around sheepishly:::)

That means everything you find online, and all of the current exercise trends, are high-intensity, very challenging and demanding, and, we’ve found, out of reach for most people ages 40 and up! You can GET there; you just can’t START there.

We know that. We get that, because we’re there, too. So we are creating workouts that are perfect for beginners and those who need a more reasonable program, and we will coach you to advance gradually and appropriately.

Walk Fit Challenge Premium is a membership site – for less than the cost of most gym memberships, members get access to everything above, plus a wealth of projects we have in the making. Trust me, we have no shortage of amazing ideas, and the only thing holding us back is that there aren’t 48 hours in every day and we haven’t figured out how to clone ourselves.

Now, here’s the fun part – because you are my friends and family and followers, and because you have been with me since the get-go, I have a special one-time membership offer JUST FOR YOU!

There will never be another offer this low, and it’s only for “my people” as my way of thanking you for supporting me throughout my This is Fit Workouts journey, or heck, just being my friend.

Because your support and friendship means a lot to me.
It means So Much.
:::cue the mush-fest:::

Again, I can’t emphasize enough that This is Fit Workouts has been a true labor of love. It began as an idea in September 2012, when I saw what other trainers were doing and thought two things: “I could do that” and “I could do that even better.”

(Y’all know I’m just a TAD competitive. :::cough:::)

I dove into the deep end with the attitude of “I’ll learn what I need when I need it” and eight months after conception, I launched This is Fit Workouts.

And then I met Ed, we joined forces, and the rest is history.

I can’t WAIT for you to join us as we create Your Online Fitness Home!

Our developers are working almost round the clock to get all our features up and running, but YOU get first dibs at entry. You get in at the ground level, during our pre-launch, super discounted, super awesome, only-for-Laura’s-people special rate.

Keep in mind that as a membership site, there’s a monthly fee to participate.

And Here’s my Special Offer for YOU: You pay only $49.95 ANNUALLY! One fee, a year’s worth of all the health, fitness, nutrition, and support you could ever want!

BAM, bitches.
(I’m sorry I called you that.)
(I won’t do that over in WFCP.)
:::fingers crossed behind back:::

Here’s the link to the website: http://walkfitchallengepremium.com/

But HERE is the link to the special discount offer for my people only! ->>> http://walkfitchallengepremium.com/users/subscribe/55077400-ab74-4ad6-a813-3a95c0a8808a

OMG OMG OMG I’m so excited! And I hope hope hope you join in!

What’s going to happen to This is Fit Workouts? The content will remain up for a very short time. Watch it while you can! Eventually it will become the property of Walk Fit Challenge Premium as an advanced option after we get our people all strong n’stuff!

Hurry, now.
Hop on over and take advantage of this deal because it’s only good for the next three days.

XOXO and a fist bump,
Laura

I tried this recipe tonight. Added a half jar - double tablespoon really - of pignoles I found in the cabinet. If thirding it for one person, pay careful attention to the initial amounts of olive oil. http://www.food.com/recipe/seared-scallops-with-pineapple-198436

And two more. Sometimes I have no idea why I doodle what I do. Though I can say that I have an affinity for triangles and wedge shapes in my "art". Thanks in advance for visiting and I hope you enjoy.

Yes, today is International Women's Day. One day is not enough of course to fix all the issues of inequality, yet it is a good start. So, here's a sarcastic, humorous nod to some women's issues created and directed by a woman. The young lady who created and wrote this series is dead-on funny, updating my favorite Charles Addams cartoons from my youth into a series of takes on modern life that are all too pointed and yet not as grave as they could be.

Morbid sense of humor aside, why post about this and not something more or less serious? Well I have a daughter. She's the one who told me about this series. She went to school on Halloween dressed as Wednesday Addams a few years ago. Clearly, Wednesday is an odd sort of image that young ladies still like. We won't say role model, although perhaps we could. She's not following convention at all. She is happy and fulfilled in her weird true self.

The young lady who created this series is an aspiring comedian with quite a good record already. (My daughter does comedy well and is an aspiring musical theater student.) She's clearly smart making her own way by riffing off something that was clever and slightly offbeat  take on life. Here's her website: http://itsmelissahunter.com

I look forward to seeing more. We all need to laugh on our way to making the world a better place for women. ___

And here is about where I lost that intriguing theme that I had going. Still, it was a good run. And the odd rhombus weed sketch turned out neat I think - viewed a couple months later. Thanks for visiting, plussing and commenting! I hope you enjoy.

Here are two more. I really like the way the "face" on the thing emerging from the hexagon came out. Not so thrilled with the color mash but it's okay. As always thanks for viewing, commenting, plussing and giving your time!

Moar doodles! I know that I intended to do something clever with the stargatish one. I didn't. That said I keep finding new interpretations for the finished one of this duo. Anythink you see in these guys?

So this is amazing stuff. I've never seen amber this color. I've had a fascination with Etruscans ever since my Dad told me about them and I visited their grave sites. Still. Wow.

Etruscan carved amber, the J. Paul Getty Museum.

Two more for today. The one I titled "Solar Flare" is one of my favorites. It has clean and simple lines yet there's something moving, organic seeming about it. And imagine my surprise when I finished Galactic. I had not expected it to assume a shape. :)
