Brian Buckley58,406Sharing My October 18 Engagers ShowcaseHappy Saturday everyone. Time for another Engagers Showcase Circle shareThis is a group of people who I interact with regularly, or who have engaged with me by commenting on one or more of my posts. It is not a "snowball"  style of circle. This circle is my way of thanking all of these folks for the enjoyment I get from Google+.If you received a notification you are in the circle. The Showcase part means that I am encouraging anyone who is a member of this circle to share a link to favorite post of their own in the comment section. We always have a lot of fun with that and learn more about each other, especially the newer members of the circle.Enjoy meeting the new people that you meet in this circle, and yes there are some new faces. Thanks for all of your support.Have a great week. #engagerscircle   #engagersshowecasecircle   #circleshare  2014-10-18 15:46:32270521864
Brian Buckley57,655Sharing My Sept 29 Engagers ShowcaseHappy Monday everyone. How about a Monday morning circle share? This is my Engagers Showcase Circle - a group of people who I interact with regularly, or who have engaged with me by commenting on one or more of my posts. This is my way of thanking all of these folks. They are largely responsible for the enjoyment I get from Google+.If you received a notification you are in the circle. The Showcase part means that I am encouraging anyone who is a member of this circle to share a link to favorite post of their own in the comment section. We always have a lot of fun with that and learn more about each other, especially the newer members of the circle.I have gone back to a smaller circle this time after experimenting with some larger ones the last few times out. For a few weeks I was trying some larger circles. It really did not increase engagement, so I have sharpened my pencil again. the hardest thing for me to do is exclude someone, but because your inclusion in the circle isd a recommendation by me I have to be tough ;)Enjoy meeting the new people that you meet in this circle, and yes there are some new faces. Have a great week. #engagementshowcase   #engagementshowcasecircle   #sharedcircles   #sharedcircleoftheday  2014-09-29 16:05:402011493284
Brian Buckley57,256Sharing My Sept 13 Engagers Showcase CircleHappy Saturday. Here is my latest circle of engaging plussers. Again with this post I am giving away a special prize with this share. Make sure you read the entire post to see how to qualify for the giveaway! As is my custom I am also recommending you check out +Pam Adger profile and add her if she's your cup of tea.  Pam is an amazing, articulate, kind person. Some of her posts don't suit everyone's tastes, so she doesn't like to be included in a mass circle share, but I love her and I think you should check her out.READ ON - GIVEAWAY INFORMATION TO COMEThe Engagers Showcase part means that I would love for you to share a link to one of your own recent posts in the comment stream here. That is a unique feature of this type of circle and it's a lot of fun. It also gives everyone a chance to learn a little bit about why I like to have you in my circles, and if they would like to add you to your circles. You'll need to use a public post or Google plus won't give you a link to it. There are lots of new people in this circle. This is your chance to make some great new connections. Here's the second bonus for reading this far. You have a chance to win one of our coveted "Blue Footed Boobies" tee shirts. Everyone in this circle (plus Pam) who shares a link to a post will be added into a new circle.  We will give one member of that new circle a coveted Blue Footed Boobies tee shirt as pictured in this post: http://goo.gl/2MJGE4 - in support of breast cancer research. If you don't have a public post of your own that you would like to share you can include a link to someone else's awesome post that you like.SHARING COMMENTING PLUSSINGAll the above are welcome and appreciated, but please do any of the above for your own reasons. You are in this circle already because of our interactions or because I admire what you do online and I want to recommend you to others. This is not a snowball circle. I curate like crazy and make this circle up based on interactions on all of my posts and from my go-to peeps. You can count on this croup to be awesome at engagementThere are some people who I follow that don't like to be included in a mass circle share. This is because they feel that their particular brand of googling is not everyone else's cup of tea. +Pam Adger  is one of those folks. She has a very wide variety of tastes and so if you put the effort in to read this post I'm rewarding you by recommending that you add her, too. She finds a lot of people add her only to  remove her from their circles later. I would love for you to check out her profile. Moe Tousignant6,227RPG Circle ShareI hadn't done these in some time but decided to start up in the new year. Earlier this week I shared my first circle, my A circle. What you have here is my B - RPG Gamers circle. These are all G+ users who's name they have chosen to use start with the letters B. Everyone in this circle should have something to do with RPGs in some way. They may be a designer, a writer, an editor, an artist, a publisher, a fan, an edition warrior, a blogger, a podcaster, etc. If you do grab some of these people you should take the time to say hi! The best way I've found to do this is put them into a "New People" circle, send a message out to that new circle and then split the people up into whatever circle system you choose to use.2014-01-09 22:25:56205213

Gabriel Fitzpatrick5,407Time for #followfriday ! This #circleshare represents everyone who has replied to or shared my posts since last #followfriday . Some of you have no doubt noticed, as I just did, that it's quite a lot smaller than usual. Perhaps my content was especially shit this week... or perhaps the fact that I'm getting ready to move has meant I posted less stuff. Who knows?Anyway, those of you who are reading this are probably following me, which means you probably share some interests with me, and therefore with them. So, add the #circle ! Add it now! Make your G+ world a better place! Thanks to everyone who commented. Have a great weekend, and don't do anything I wouldn't do... unless it seems fun. In which case, do it, and then tell me about it so I can do it. If you're being notified, you're in it! Share!)2012-05-11 22:23:154216114
Gabriel Fitzpatrick5,258It's officially 17 minutes into #followfriday which means it's time for my weekly #circleshare of the people who've contributed to my topics during the week just passed. I think this week in particular has had some great discussions, and I have these people (and, I think we can all agree, my own brilliant topics and shining discourse ^.^) to thank for that. So, thank you all! If you're reading this but aren't in the #circle , there is an easy solution - share this circle, or anything else in the coming week, or better yet contribute to the discussions which form a tiny piece of the amazing G+ experience. If you're being notified, you're in it. Today I am thankful for the air air flow through me and you and light that washes over me and you and smells that move through my and your nose into our brains. That's living. Drink deep of it.

Friends of a long time past are moving. Have moved. Left a place with a lot of history and took their daughter to a new home. The old place needed stuff hauled. Things removed. Cleaning. I had an opportunity to show up for some hours of honest labor.

Wasn't it convenient that there was this awesome park on the way? One that I had never stopped in before today? You would think in 24 odd years I would have stopped already. Nope.

I am so glad that I did today and that I can share images with all of you. Also, I'm happier that I could help friends do things.

Today I give thanks to the dreamers, imagineers, and storytellers of the past. Where would we be without imagination? Without tales to excite our minds and push us outward to explore? To advance.

(Today was a good day to spend in meatspace: errands, kid to doctor appointment, a hike to take some photos, a chat with a friend, and then dinner with one of my best friends and his new lady.)

Outside, today, I found rocks. Enormous rocks, tumbled down a hillside like pebbles. It must be where a glacier scraped and twisted to scratch an itch and shook rocks from its moccasins. There they were, moss-verdant and resplendent, attended by live trees and aging stumps.

How it looked like a giant must have put them there. Can you imagine? If you see the world from the human perspective, and think humanity did most everything, how do you explain rocks... more »

How it looked like a giant must have put them there. Can you imagine? If you see the world from the human perspective, and think humanity did most everything, how do you explain rocks too large to move? All left in a pile, waiting for the child at play to return, scoop them up, and take them home.

Our ancestors had imagination, developed dreaming, and found ways to invent stories that were not true yet rang true. And that ability propels us forward.

We could not have reached the Moon if we had not dreamed about it first. Surely if we do not kill ourselves and our world we will reach sites undreamt of yet.

I am grateful that the boy was content tonight. Liam had a swim lesson. Mainly, he moved in the water and ignored the instructor. She was young and excited to teach the two girls who had their noodles and really wanted to learn. So it all worked out.

Except I felt like I should have stepped in. That was SWLU's advice. As the child of two teacher's though I have a different expectation. Isn't that part of how the world goes? So many different patterns. Do they match up?

Well he went up to bed early and happily so there's something to be said for just getting him into the water.

Two more! As always, thank you for visiting. I do hope you like some of what there is to see here. For those of you who stop frequently, you may have figured out that I'm a much better at abstracts than at art. So today's two are in that family. The v-shaped one with the ovals keeps making me think "weird alien music". Heh.

Mathematical and visual analysis of the world's city patterns. It makes sense. I find it fascinating that Boston may be more comfortable to Europeans due to the "pre-auto" settlement patterns. Or in other words because it was laid out in a similar fashion.(Except the Back Bay is more like modern cities...)

Now mind you, I bet that I could do a FATE Core or similar RPG via Hangout, no additional platform needed. In fact, I'd love to. And I'm seriously thinking and when and how. Because gaming needs to happen, and there hasn't been enough lately.

Today was a good day.

Two more doodles. One was inspired by the evolution of knowledge transmission and stored wisdom. From clay tablets through CDs to ? The other was a tree. A tree with long dangled leaves like a willow, but not a willow. This took me a long time to do. I did leaves on every branch except where I went all artsy and just made it look like a kid had stripped a lot of leaves off a few withies. That was fun to do. It truly made me appreciate how much work goes into art, and how valuable artists and creators are.

Today, I was grateful for waking up. Consciousness. Awareness!

If you think about it, there is a tiny, but finite chance, that you will not wake up.

Today, I was grateful for waking up. Consciousness. Awareness!

If you think about it, there is a tiny, but finite chance, that you will not wake up.

I was so grateful for friends who have a cozy home where you drive away from the sunset to play board games. I don't get up there often enough, however I have been able to get there more this year.

It's the company and the camaraderie and the using your brain part that thrills me. The night goes by quick - even when I'm yawning at midnight and the last game hasn't ended. Catching up with people is so nice. Actually winning one round was a bonus - my brain kicked back in and I found a winning strategy that confirmed some ideas I had before. Given all the nonsense with every little mistake at work, I am delighted to be amongst friendly folks. I wish it could have gone on longer, and yet it may have gone a bit late. Heh.

So a new album begins. I started this 8/22/2014. Finished 10/5/2014. There's a long gap in there where the bi-pap wasn't working. And other things were going on. Well I try to have a "splash page" start which is more effort than usual. I wouldn't call the first one more effort than usual. It is neat though. The second one is neat. I'm happy with it. And I realized I may have a slight obsession with drawing shield shapes. That may be too much. Let's call it a theme?

Today I am grateful for company. Okay, the photo is of a tad risqué wine bottle art label. I do think women's bodies are beautiful. Anyway, today I got to go out running with a co-worker. And that beats going alone any day. Okay, he wasn't built like this, I'm straight and we had to shout over the rain yet company is still grand.

Fast forward to when I get home and well, sometimes you have to be your own friend right? Fortunately, I found a little wine to sit down and talk to. Then a poem flashed out of my head. So here you go.

    roaming erotic commas,

Where do we end?

You enrich my tongue.

Enfold me in warmth Veritas! I take you. Do you take me? All that you need to be? Take me slowly. Take me slowly, lavishly, richly, caressingly, consumed.

The glass is empty.
Taste buds quiver with delight when you splash down,
Buss the glass,
Wait for your last breath of my air.

I raise my lips to you.
I taste you.
I salute you.
I devour you.
Devoutly.

I linger.

Yesterday, October 15, 2014, I was thankful and so happy for tools like pen and paper and glasses. Here's a true story.

I went out for a run on lunch - missed all my runner buddies but it was good try try to find them. Over the levee I went toward the HPD firing range. You can't make it up. There's a sign on top of the levee "Pistol Range in Operation When Lights Are Flashing." I've only seen them flashing once and I steered clear.

For some reason, I thought going down the other side of the levee to run on the trails would be good. There are rocks on the side. I started down, footsure in the ways a kid who grew up hopping marshes and jumping on jetties can be.

My durn glasses slipped off my head.

Clatter. Bounce.

Bounce bounce into a hollow between stones as the temples on the frame folded up. Yes. There they were without a scratch nestled in between four rocks, pointing down like they were back in their glasses case.

My heart thudded long for a moment. I need my glasses. Then I laughed, took them back up, cursed the light and too thin frames that probably also stopped them from breaking, put them back on, and ran on my way.

Today I am thankful for keys. They are wards of my estate. Heh. Contain wards. Todays keys are passwards. They give you discounts. And track you. And sell your personal information. They still give you access to things. We could not live in our houses and apartments and go to work in our cars without keys.

They let you loan your resources to others. Need to borrow my car? Have my keys. They keep those resources a bit safer too. Not a lot but a bit.

Think about how many keys you have in your life?

Today I was thankful for getting into the office early. Really early. The storm clouds moved out as I drove into Hartford. They had spent themselves before I awoke at 6:06. And got Spencer to his transport, and checked on Liam getting on his bus.

However, it was really the fact that I had time to get my work done that enabled me to appreciate the beauty of early morning. I breathed in the air and stared at Hartford's skyline. Into the building I found my desk. Hours later a friend said "let's go running" and I did.

That was the best thing about the day. Six miles. Yakkity yak. Chat chat. How bout this? How bout that?

After running pretty much solo for four years, it's amazing to have a buddy to go with.

Today I am grateful for cleaning supplies, food supplies, and getting up a little earlier.

Have a look at this lamp. Do you see the kitchen grease on the left? I cleaned the right hand side. That took a good while and ammonia. Pfaugh! It smelled. And was greasy. Do you know it's been 3 years since  I tackled this? About the time my daughter's high school events became really active.

While cleaning I made dinner. And started gathering and preparing supplies for meat dust. Cracking black pepper was tonight's chore. And delight. The smell of the pepper. Oh! It sauntered into my nostrils, tickled and settled down to purr while I ground on.

How was this all possible? Company coming this weekend and my oldest changing from cab transport to bus transport. He had to be at the town library by 6:40. AM. Dad was of course elected. I goth... more »

How was this all possible? Company coming this weekend and my oldest changing from cab transport to bus transport. He had to be at the town library by 6:40. AM. Dad was of course elected. I got him there. Which meant I was at work by 7:15 and gently teasing co-workers who get in at 7:45. So I left at 5:05 and stopped at the store for dinner and tomorrow's dinner on the way home and found the time to try to do all this. Then helped with homework, cleaned up after dinner and tried to catch my breath.

The one tiny regret is that I'm here blogging about this 365 project and I'm not keeping up with all of you. Still GSD is important and this is a big week for family visiting. Hope you're well all of you! Get some shit done, cook some good stuff, and have family and friends time.

Today I am thankful. Thankful for waking up. For river mist. For confirmation that my daughter will return home Thursday. That my younger son got up and just got moving. And that the older has an alternate transportation solution even if he's been weepy about it all night. Sigh. What can you do?? Well we had some great laughs over dinner, especially since Spencer surprised me that his friend would be over for food.

I love cool mornings with temperature inversions. This one made the day quite bearable. Hope you had a moment in your day like this.

Tis fall here. And here are photos. Maybe I ran 8.9 miles today. Maybe I've been busy as hell. I'm thankful I'm still here. How about a poem?

A Salute to Autumn

Slam the summer door coolly in my face
And begin the pavement pounding heart race
Into fall
With every Breath
Runchilled icewater quenches.

Down hill then up
Leaf litter down

Slipfoot surefoot
Leaf foot cur foot
Runfoot sureslip
Slipleaf runsure

Rumbletumble golden gal leaves shower down.
Heavy breath for the fourth hill
Home is on the crown

It's perfectly plausible. Good linguistic evidence however it's based on one source. It would be nice to have some better evidence. The really interesting parts of the article?

1) A group called People of One Fire has attempted to document pre-European life, including trying to translate all native american languages transcribed by the Spanish when they first arrived. This is valuable insight into the past and an awesome thing to do. I wonder what they found?

2) I concur with the comment that DNA evidence is the best evidence to show if Europeans reached the New World, or vice versa, before Columbus. The second best is physical evidence. One of the best examples of this is the L'anse aux Meadows site. Clearly, the Vikings did get here. And, unlike later Europeans, they did less violence to the native inhabitants. http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/lhn-nhs/nl/meadows/index.aspxmore »

I disagree that they mystery of the Reinhardt Boulder itself has been put to rest. Similarities in rendering carvings 1000-5000 or so years ago in places thousands of miles apart is nice documentation. It does not confirm that a) the two had a common origin, b) that if they did have a common origin that the carving methods originated in Europe*, and c) that everything has to have originated in Europe. Spirals and whorls are a very, very common, primal design. If they had found chevrons, diamonds and triskeles then I would tend to think that there was more to the common origin.

*In my middle age I have come to really despise the Eurocentric bias in history and related studies. It has set us back so far in terms of knowledge. I do still love Europe and European history.

Hey folks! I hope you're all well. It would be grand if you all could come over sometime so I could make food for you? People come together around a table and it's grand when you get to have company. Hopefully you have company tonight.

I had a really great catchup with a friend last night. My friend and I got through the high points of 24 years or so over a few hours last night and another this morning. (In about four more visits we may be about current.)

When I got home, I made dinner after getting the youngest his ubiquitous peanut butter toast. He retreated to his laptop. I offered. Scallops? No. Fennocchio? No. Ah Liam. Perhaps someday?

Food. It's so primal. Such an experience. I felt like +Michelle Beissel was lurking there, tapping at the back corner of my brain as I threw things into pans, whispering encouragement, smirking as I threw in hot peppers.. If you have food in plenty, or in enough, that is a good thing. I have to give thanks for that.

The hot peppers - pepperoncini - really worked.

So, for the cooking blogosphere, here's what you need.

a third or more of a pound of scallops
fennocchio
pots and pans and stuff
Hawaiian red sea salt
cracked black pepper
lemon juice
other salty bits: like capers but you ran out so it's chopped olives, a clove of shallots and "fresh" salty preserved garlic cloves that fricking make homemade pizza bad and...
pepperoncini

Preparation Dice up all the veggies. Or slice thin! Get out the oil and the salt that sat on the counter when something went bad. Yeah I had olive oil and salt that coulda been thrown out. Nope. Cheap Yankee to the rescue.

Cooking Get a skillet hot. Throw in olive oil. Crack black pepper and salt over the scallops while the pan heats. I used the red salt after a tomato-related incident at the dinner table the other day. (It was moist still because I put it in a bag. While I feel this is relevant it's not related.) When the pan is hot, toss the prepared scallops in and sizzle them on both sides. Not too much! They are delicate sea creatures begging to loll on your tongue.

Meanwhile as they are about to finish, put a bunch of butter into a larger pan. Pull the scallops off before they get hard. (Yes, this happens. It bears no relation to where your brain just went.) Cover them up so they rest a bit while you contemplate each and every one passing over your tongue.

Now. Once the veggie pan's on the verge of hot butter - bubbling and shimmering and there's this creamy bit holding hands and singing in the center but it ain't smoking and turning brown yet - toss in the fennocchio and your other salty bits to taste. Turn it at regular intervals. Walk away too. Let it get a little dark gold in bits and lightly translucent in others. Keep turning till the fennel is translucent and you're fucking hungry.

Pour a glass of wine. Take a sip and let it slide slowly down.

Smile.

Back to the stove man.

Pull the vegetable mass off, toss it onto last week's baby spinach - oh the humanity! - and whip around to find the scallops still warm under a big stainless steel pan lid.

Ooh burn for the reader. Like a cookbook from half a century ago. Did you read all the way through?? Where did that stainless steel lid come from Inspecteur?

Scrape them fennel slices onto the lettuce. Inhale gently. Push the scallops down over them. Regard. Take a food selfy. Email it to your parents vacationing in some amazing region of France. Pour another glass of wine as you dine with savory delight under the waning rays of the sun on the last warm Saturday - you think but have no fricking idea - of September.

The pepperoncini - oh such a little amount in the vast array of food - added that little jazz to the dish in that moment.

Pour another glass of wine.

Cheers!

Well there was a frustrating thing. I had this idea. I came close. So very close to drawing what was in my mind's eye! It's hard for me to get there most days. I'm still happy with results, just not with the process how I got there.

So thank you for viewing. I hope you got a chance to do something doodly today.

Here are two more! One unfinished, one minimalist finished. I am finally learning to let go of ideas that I don't get back to. Yes, I could really push myself to go do a few tiny things to it here or there, but is it worth it if I've lost it? Probably not when it's just for myself. Life lessons from doodles. Good stuff.

And thank you for your kind words and thoughts and acknowledgements. It's great that you visited.

New blood test for depression. Hope for a better treatment IMO.

Identification of new RNA markers is one of the most amazing finds. I have several people in my family who suffer from depression. (Hell it spills over onto me such that sometimes even I feel like it's getting to me so that would be a neat side study.) I think that this is such a great finding, and I really like that it's so cost-effective and more available. It will also help further reduce the stigma. As if Robin Williams going wasn't enough to give us national awareness.

Two more for the doodles. Well the photo here appears to cut off the sea serpent's head. Well no matter. That's a doodle that became more than a doodle. I am no artist, however occasionally I can render something. This one really pleased me that it came out like I intended. (Getting the island in there was a bonus round.)

So thank you for your plusses, your visit and your appreciation. DO please share any of your art, doodles or work with me if you have any! Thanks.

Album continues. I had a huge spate of creativity at the end of June/beginning of July. This led to mixing up months. Both were drawn in July. Maybe it was celebrating my daughter graduating, and looking forward to her going to college, and moving to a new role and office. I dunno. I just know that there was stuff in the notebook almost every day. Thanks for viewing and I hope it entertains or pleases you. :)

Here are two more. The color one is pencil. A rare thing for me in my notebooks. (I prefer pen.) That is the "artist's impression" of a sunrise. +Amy O did I ever circle back on that discussion? Anyway, I hope you like these two new additions and thank you again for visiting and viewing!
