Brian Buckley54,529Sharing My July 19 Engagers Showcase Circle Happy Saturday. Here is my latest circle of engaging plussers. If you received a notification then you are in this circle! I curate like crazy.  _You don't get in just by doing the plus, comment, share  thing on this post._ I make this circle up based on interactions on all of my posts and from my go-to peeps. I follow a very special person who is not in this circle. +Pam Adger has such a wide variety of tastes. She finds a lot of people add her only to  remove her from their circles later. I would love for you to check out her profile. There is so much texture in Pam's posts, and she is such a kind person that I love having her in my circles. If you agree add her. If her tastes aren't for you, then don't add her.The Engagers Showcase part means that I would love for you to share a link to one of your own recent posts in the comment stream here. That is a unique feature of this type of circle and it's a lot of fun. It also gives everyone a chance to learn a little bit about why I like to have you in my circles, and if they would like to add you to your circles. You'll need to use a public post or Google plus won't give you a link to it.Sharing, commenting, plussing on this circle is all encouraged and appreciated BUT please re-share for your own reasons. Sharing won't get you in, not sharing will not get you tossed out. Its just not that kind of circle. If you don't want to add a link to one of your posts - that's cool. Sometimes people who are new to this circle aren't sure about that part. Maybe other members will check out your profile anyway. The idea is to have a little fun. My goal with this circle is to recommend you (the members) to others as awesome folks who engage.Today I am attending a 40th High School reunion, then I am travelling tomorrow.  It may be difficult for me to visit everyone's links and reply to each comment right away. Over the next few days I will get around to everyone. I promise. Thanks again everyone. Enjoy and thank you for your engagement :)#engagerscircle      #engagersshowcasecircle    #circleshare  2014-07-19 14:09:0826019335107CC G+

Brian Buckley52,864Sharing My June 18 Engagers Showcase CircleHere is my latest circle of engaging plussers.  It has been just over a month since I have shared a circle. I have been out of the country on a vacation. It's certainly a challenge to stay engaged using only mobile, at least for me. I really appreciate those of you who did stay in touch :)If you received a notification then you are in this circle! I curate like crazy.  _You don't get in just by doing the plus, comment, share  thing on this post._ I make this circle up based on interactions on all of my posts and from my go-to peeps. This is also my first circle with help from the newly released  +Circloscope  app and I found it to be a much improved and user-friendly interface. Thanks to +Christine DeGraff  +Craig Fifield  and everyone else who was involved in the effort to improve this valuable circle-management tool. I know there was a large group of Beta Testers who helped a lot, too.Sharing, commenting, plussing is all encouraged and appreciated BUT please re-share for your own reasons. Moe Tousignant6,227RPG Circle ShareI hadn't done these in some time but decided to start up in the new year. Earlier this week I shared my first circle, my A circle. What you have here is my B - RPG Gamers circle. These are all G+ users who's name they have chosen to use start with the letters B. Everyone in this circle should have something to do with RPGs in some way. They may be a designer, a writer, an editor, an artist, a publisher, a fan, an edition warrior, a blogger, a podcaster, etc. If you do grab some of these people you should take the time to say hi! The best way I've found to do this is put them into a "New People" circle, send a message out to that new circle and then split the people up into whatever circle system you choose to use.2014-01-09 22:25:56205213CC G+

Gabriel Fitzpatrick5,407Time for #followfriday ! This #circleshare represents everyone who has replied to or shared my posts since last #followfriday . Some of you have no doubt noticed, as I just did, that it's quite a lot smaller than usual. Perhaps my content was especially shit this week... or perhaps the fact that I'm getting ready to move has meant I posted less stuff. Who knows?Anyway, those of you who are reading this are probably following me, which means you probably share some interests with me, and therefore with them. So, add the #circle ! Add it now! Make your G+ world a better place! Thanks to everyone who commented. Have a great weekend, and don't do anything I wouldn't do... unless it seems fun. In which case, do it, and then tell me about it so I can do it. If you're being notified, you're in it! Share!)2012-05-11 22:23:154216114CC G+
Gabriel Fitzpatrick5,258It's officially 17 minutes into #followfriday which means it's time for my weekly #circleshare of the people who've contributed to my topics during the week just passed. I think this week in particular has had some great discussions, and I have these people (and, I think we can all agree, my own brilliant topics and shining discourse ^.^) to thank for that. So, thank you all! If you're reading this but aren't in the #circle , there is an easy solution - share this circle, or anything else in the coming week, or better yet contribute to the discussions which form a tiny piece of the amazing G+ experience. If you're being notified, you're in it. They take kids like her, and demand both academic and professional diligence, success and achievement. Every day her classes started at 7:30 and ended at 12:30. Then her music, dance and acting regiment began. That ended at 4:15.

Once she started taking roles in plays, and acting, singing and dancing, Justine was there until 6, 7, 8 and yes 9 PM for many nights. Sometimes for weeks on end. And weekends. (When school ended for the summer she took a role in a summer theater.)

Yesterday was Sunday. Sunday we had a little party in the yard for Justine The Daughter. I was so thankful we were ready by the time people showed. And so grateful for their generosity to her.

Yesterday I was grateful that my daughter Justine graduated high school. Here she is with her young man John and her younger brother (photobombing). Her older brother wisely did not photobomb...

She's spent four years at one of the toughest, most demanding magnet schools in the country. It's also one of the best and yes, the brightest.

Throughout this she kept up ap... more »

This news broke today and there was no way to feel anything but grief and extended grief for the families of 300. Malaysia Airlines personnel, my heart goes out to you for a second blow to your spirit.

Humanity, you fail our noble aspirations time and time again. Let us hope we grow up faster. And soon.

Today I give thanks to my daughter Justine. For making dinner. That was so sweet and nice of her.

I ate it all - and half of hers when she realized that she was full.

Yesterday I was grateful for experimenting. And umbrellas and iPhones.  Of course, it all has to begin with picking up the boy (Liam) from a group session.

While waiting to get him, I noticed a drop of water on my phone. It had this neat electronic rainbow effect. I thought "I could take a photo with this and it would be so cool." Well I walked back out to the car with him after handing him the umbrella. Rain splashed and sashayed down upon my phone. Big blops lay down on the surface.

He got in the car. Surrendered the bumbershoot. I held it up. Activated the phone. Reversed the flow. Shot photos.

You would never know there were big water droplets on the surface of the phone. I did get this neat image out of it though.

189/365 - Sunday July 13 2014

Today I slept for 8 hours. Found the Room of Rest, returned, and dozed another 27 minutes. It gave me great peace. Thank you sleep. Thanks.

So I give thanks for sleep, SD chips that gave up, and serendipitous finds. The sleep I can't picture to you. Save words. A clever artist might, indeed, render it.

The chip? Ahhh. It's been with me since 2008. The Year of the Camera. She Who Lives Upstairs put great thought in that year and I have reveled in the use since. The chip, I confess, I bought rapidly after filling the tiny 32 MB starter that came in the Canon.

That chip has taken well over 10,000 photos. Possibly over 20,000. It served it's time. I called upon it for another 200 or so this past Saturday. A mere fraction. Yet the download time was severe. So to retirement it goes. I limp along with my phone. (How do you... more »

Yesterday I was grateful for solitude and shadows. These bright light spots are in the shadows inside an old stone church in Sterling Massachusetts. After staying over with friends post-board gaming, I had a few hours to spare before the next endeavor. What to do?

What to do.

Jumping in the car, spinning off into the unknown, and exploring became the plan. I made that decision about when I couldn't remember a turn to find I-290 and said "Hell, Route 12 it is."

Sterling to Lancaster to Bolton to Harvard to the highway. Route 12 > Route 110 > back roads > Route 70 > Route 117 > Route 110 again > Route 2 > I-490 > Nashua Connector.

I had a lot of time to think. Perhaps too much. Yet I still found this old place and acquired a lot of photos under the supervision of brilliant blue sky with... more »

Two days ago I was grateful for being in the moment, cooperative play, and shared experiences.

First, I got to head off to friends to play games on a Friday night. A rare treat for me. Tried out Seven Wonders, which is actually a pretty darned good, fast and fun card game. Like Puerto Rico, the winning strategy stares at me to mock my failure to grasp it. Still, I'd play it again.

Second, we played Pandemic with four players and six Epidemics. This is a cooperative game. The first cooperative board game we really played was the original Arkham Horror. This is the second. (There are a few more out nowadays.) As the epidemics appeared rapidly, and the options declined, we scrabbled for ways to maximize our efforts. They did not pan out. It was only just a game. Yet it's such a good lesson in life.

That day I was grateful for paint and projects and people. My friend Colin came over to work on his minis and I hauled out this. It's not done, but I made progress! Plus who doesn't love spraying chrome paint all over stuff??

But seriously Colin and I have been friends for a decade now, we're pretty sure. He's one of a handful of folks (like my buddy Kevin) who just came into my life one day and I'm damn grateful that he's still around. He brought his girlfriend Lucia over. I'm pretty damn happy that he's got a girlfriend, and a good one. It's also great that he comes by himself sometimes and with her on others.

Friends - good friends - are family that you get to choose.

Today I thanked the fortuity of the universe that we have a good orthopedic down the street. Actually, a great orthopod. Dr. B is fantastic. He sees my daughter when he says. He figures out what's going on. He tells you what's happening.

Why were we there? Well a little accident she had yesterday at her theater company rehearsing. Diagnosis is medial epicondylitis aka golfer's or pitcher's elbow. Not a fracture as they feared at the clinic last night.

I glanced down at Justine's folder today while getting her checked in and laughed out loud. It had stickers from 2007 to present 2014 (except 2010 hm). She's been into Dr. B. 7 times in 8 years. We used to joke about her annual fractures. Now I just think it's a nearly annual visit to the orthopedic to concern her parents.

Today is today. I am grateful for a quiet day. No doubt you're thinking "weird photo what is it?"

Yep. You are. I had a quiet day at work. I cleaned up more party stuff once I got home. Made dinner for those who live with me. And appreciated the big jug that I stuck the sangria in for the party yesterday.

It can hold a lot of water. Cold water. With ice and lime, lemon and orange slices. For days that family, friends and neighbors come over. The house is a lot cleaner. We have friends from Denmark coming in a short couple of weeks. Neighbors could come over for the next couple of weeks too. Small windows, big containers. Yep I'll clean 'em. Time and time again.

*I swear I'm more on track than this. Well if not no worries. Woohoo! Halfway through the Year of 365.

Saturday I was grateful for a few moments this old dog - Roscoe of the 19 Toes - and I spent together. I woke up and creaked downstairs - the usual routine. He was still in his crate where I had left him 6 hours before. Roscoe's tail doesn't thump so much anymore - it's either the cataracts or he's creaky like me?

I let him out. He muddled about the yard and sniffed. He took care of business. We meandered inside. I gave him breakfast. Got the coffee to brewing. It was time to get moving for the day. Oh and did I move.

First though, I brought him off to the kennel where She Who Lives Upstairs signed him up for some kinda doggie spa treatment. As Dickens wrote, "Ah, Jyp, a dog's life for me." Today I am grateful for lasting to another Fourth of July. Another holiday spent with family. In an unusual yet awesome Three Generation Race way.

The photo bears no resemblance to the event. It does express my love for my family in such a perfect way: a running heart, crafted when I'm sure I was no older than 6 or 7. As a child, our intents, our thoughts, our feelings are more pure, more innocent, and intense.

What was today? The Hingham Road Race in Massachusetts. This year's course was 4.35 miles of awesome. Not just because there were over 2000 people, but because there were a whole bunch of special people there: family.

Dad & Mom - Dad ran; Mom cheered from the finish line. He's 72 by the way. Came in 6 out of 10 in his age category. Not bad for a guy who never ran more than 2 miles before this year...

Yesterday I was grateful for so many things. This included a glass of wine with my brothers, aunt, uncle and parents around my aunt and uncle's kitchen table.* Cheerfully and irreverently poured - in case of a few - into Sam Adams glasses. My aunt was shocked for quite a few moments. We enjoyed the wine. And we told stories.

Stories about our kids, our friends, relatives. It was one of those moments when a lot of family stories came out to be told. All good, no bad just old moments long faded from the world, and many laughs.

One of the best parts was hearing a story about my grandfather Bob Collins. He was an electrician for the phone company after World War II. Bob drove a truck, installed phones for bookies on the side, and made enough to feed his wife Helen and six kids (and a bunch out of the neighborhood who would somehow show up for dinner a lot). He also... more »

Today I am grateful for lettuce and tomato. Specifically romaine. Why?

Because I have enough to feed my family, to offer healthy options*, and I like salad. Though spinach is a great option too, romaine is just a nice lettuce.

Yep.

Lettuce and tomato taste really, really good. Maybe I'm feeling proud of myself for getting some out this morning at 6:30 AM and slicing them up for sandwiches for my daughter and I.

Hm no. Mostly they're just colorful and vegetable matter that tastes good with dressing.

*Yike. So few of them take the healthy option.

Today may I offer thanks and appreciation for the following: eggs, textures and camera chips?

Eggs are wonderful treasures. As Tolkien said, inside a golden treasure is hid. (I had and egg salad sandwich for dinner - half mayo, half mustard, add a little ground coriander to zip it up.) They are hunger controllers. A diet heavy in eggs and butter for breakfast helped me lose 30 pounds a while back!

The eggs came out of (one of) these boxes. They are regular shaped, lovingly textured, and easily recycled. I love the design, how it carefully cradles the golden treasure - almost every time - to let you get it home. We don't exactly live close to the chickens anymore. Except for a few friends of mine anyway. And texture to my eye is a delight, treat and treasure. See how it ties together?

Now think of the chip in your camera. It has textures, colors,... more »

Today I am grateful for my past. It has made me who I am. It echoes in me. It shows me that themes of our life get repeated time and time again - for good or for bad.

These are snowflakes. At least that's what my childish handwriting says. They can have been drawn no later than 1976, when I was 10. Context suggests that I may have been 8 or so actually - so more like the winter of 1974.

My Mom is a retired teacher. When I was younger, she taught us how to make snowflakes one winter. I remember being enthralled at learning how to snip out a shape from a conical folded piece of precious paper that my Dad had brought home from school. (White, crisp, unlined loose paper was rather valuable on Cape Cod in the 70s you know. That's my contention.) Years later I showed it to my daughter and my younger son - before the older son came to live with us. We clippedo... more »

Today I offer two photos. This is to explain my thinking. One counts against my 365 project. :)

As part of cleaning up the house for The Daughter's graduation party, lots of stuff gets thrown out. Screaming ensues. Small children run upstairs to ask adults to stop. They do eventually and get down to the business at hand. Cleaning, sifting, sorting and disposing.

A few years ago my Mom surfaced with a bag of childhood school projects. Mainly 1971-1976 but who knows what's at the bottom? I started to photograph them tonight to get rid of them. The majority are old, made of destruction construction* paper, and take up awkward space. They are my past. Yet they still inform me.

So I happened across a tracing of my hand from 1971 or 1972. I've grown up a little since then. Not a lot. Yet a little. And I'm so happy that I've had that... more »

So the critter you see on screen is about as large as in life. It was tiny! I suspect a grasshopper relative. However I have not tracked it down.

There it was on the wall of the house after my return. After the inevitable argument. After cleaning ramped up to full speed.

It seemed tiny. And earnest. I really do wonder about it. The day was okay for sure.

Today I give thanks for getting out the door and running! Here's a silly pre-run face for you all.

I haven't gone since Sunday. The new role has some timing requirements to get used to. So I've been in the Bunker from 8-5 (or earlier; or later) every day.

I really needed to run. I chose the hard route for a tempo run. Out the door, to the end of the street, add in the .2 mile extra jag left, then up the tall, tall hill for a solid mile. No stopping, no whining, and yes quads complaining silently.

An ice cream truck passed me slowly. That was odd. I heard it processing way back. The driver nodded at me as he passed. Funny. Nowadays the driver's side has a sign saying you have to go to the other side to get served? Srsly??

So I made it to the top a mile from my street. And pelted down, leaping and jumping the sewer grates as I... more »

Monday I was grateful for projects. Stuff to do and make for things in my life. It was a hard day at work. Transitions can be a little tough. All's well now if you're wondering. Thanks.

So I found this at Michael's. It's supposed to be a bird house. I don't think most self-respecting birds will use it. So I bought it, pulled the too-short perching peg out, sanded it smoother and started priming it.

I have... uses for it. Heh heh heh. That's the joy of being creative and inspired. You can have a bench full of half finished projects. Yet the stuff you actually get done works in some way. Maybe it brings a little joy to someone. Or you get the satisfaction of actually finishing something.

This one will have a use. I just have to decide on the rivets. Really, a good problem to have.

On Tuesday I was grateful for working more on projects for upcoming adventures. Mainly because my buddy Colin came over. So I made dinner. He painted minis. I painted terrain. It sure beat sitting in the house alone in front of the Internet! :)

Colin comes over a lot. Not as much as I think either of us would like, but we manage to get a couple games of Warmachine in most months. Time to time we do other things like work on terrain, ramble on about our lives, or work on adventures. On an occasional weekend we go hang out with other friends for a drink, a really good meal and a game.

Today I was grateful for a continuance of yesterday. The air was warm. Just right. Cool breezes played tag. Clouds gathered and roamed and smiled serenely down upon the northern hemisphere.

After a full 8 hours, my eyes cracked open. I laid in bed for a while, then arose. Coffee, breakfast, getting the house moving. Except it's summer! I needed do nothing except rouse myself. Oh what a relief of responsibility.

Ideally, I should have gone to run before 11:15 AM. Ideally. That didn't happen. Three stops with at least two minutes of walking did happen over the course of 12.5 miles or so. I didn't care. I had my gatorade and water. My breath rasped from time to time as my chest tightened in inexplicable stress, and yet it was still glorious to be out and moving.

This was somewhat of an idle thought yesterday, however I was certainly the beneficiary of safe, fast roads passing from a friend's Solstice Party to my daughter's friend's graduation party.

I was also the beneficiary of some amazing skies. Here's just one photo from Interstate 91 heading south. This is the Pioneer Valley in Massachusetts where I've lived and still visit frequently. A beautiful place indeed as this may help you see. Yesterday was another treat to be able to visit.

Today I am extremely grateful for Liam finishing 6th grade. He moves on to Middle School next year! And his Dad won't ask to take his picture in bright light that he dislikes again for a while.

This winter was really tough for Liam. He missed almost the entire third quarter. He also missed some time in the 4th quarter. Thankfully he's still only in 6th grade. If he can demonstrate proficiency in the core - he can; he's quite bright; he can - and make up a little work he's set for 7th grade.

So I'm really hopeful for the fall. Even while I start to think about strategies and ways to help him through an even harder grade. I was really happy and proud to sit there and watch him get his certificate.

Today I am grateful for avocados. Okay avocado pits. I have a lot of them on my kitchen windowsill. I rescue them before they hit the garbage. I let them dry out. They go really, really dry, almost stoney.

Once I carved one into a tiny box. With mechanical tools. I really like the little thing. I keep wanting to clean off my bench in the basement to get back to it. The task eludes me. There is, of course, much going on around home.

So tonight, while working on a totally different project for visiting friends, I happened across a few of these with the skins still on. (When you remove an avocado seed, the skin turns slowly dry and can be peeled off. Sometimes it just falls off.) So I removed that junk. Cast it down trash ward. Here's what was underneath.*

It looks like it could be something...different?

Today I am grateful for the clouds and the sky. It rained all last week. It was a long week. I got down about a few things happening out of my control. (This happens.) The sun broke back out on the weekend and the skies appeared again! Life returned to sunny, upbeat ways on Saturday.

Today I forgot to take my daily photo. After finding my Canon on Sunday while it languished for a week in the trunk of the car. I realized as I was driving north to get my oldest son from his extended stay away that indeed I would not have a shot.

Then I saw this swirl in the clouds in the sky.  It was delightful! I snapped picture after picture with my phone, finally stopping to pull off an exit and get a few more. (This is the action shot from the car just for amusement.) Safety dontcha know.

It was a marvelous sky. Despite gulping a coffee and dropping fast food on my... more »

Today I am grateful for peonies. We have two plants in our yard. I've neglected them both a bit I'm sad to say. One still bore a flower today. It's amazing looking! The plant came from my father-in-law.

Dick is a complicated man. And he's from two generations ago as the world measures things. Still he brought us these bushes because they came from his yard, where he planted some because his wife loved them.

Dick took care of Melba, my mother-in-law, over the years as she declined into Alzheimers then passed on last year. He's got my respect for doing that. It was hard work. I think it's apropos to salute not just your own father (and my Dad is awesome) but anyone else who you might think deserving of some recognition today.

And yes, I feel bad for those single moms who have had the fathers of their children leave them. And fort... more »

Yesterday I was grateful for tools and materials. They let me create something. This is a graduation card (minus the name element in red which I added at the top after taking this photo.) It went to my daughter's young man, who is an amazing, upstanding and awesome fellow. He treats her right, and they have a great time together. When we got an invite to his graduation party, I decided that I had to do something a little more.

We headed over to his folks for dinner and a party and hung out all night. Or rather I did because I stayed. (The young people took off mid-party because there were others!) The hosts were kind enough to give me a lift home late, which was really terrific. It was one of those groups where you feel like you're just part of a big family, like another cousin or distant relative who showed up on the door to get welcomed in.

I miss that... more »

This is so cool. This is also the first time a private concern has commanded a satellite. A really excellent rescue mission and a good example of how private can sometimes be much more effective than public. Pointing out that without NASA's public efforts this would not of course be possible.

#fivedayquest  Day V of V

Five Day Quest Guidelines: we share a photo and narrative about our daily lives for five days, tagging someone new to participate each day, if they are so inclined. :) Hashtag optional above.

Let me begin where I ended - with my work bag. Except today I was at the bus stop at the end of the day. End of the week. Friday the 13th. Tired, a little sore, accomplished, looking forward to the weekend.

So it was hard to guess who I'd like to tag in. I like so many photographers here. I will invite +Darryl Woodbury
