Chris Chabot147,344Dave Powell from shoottokyo.com is in town and organizing a photowalk Sunday the 14th. Next to being an awesome person, and fantastic photographer he's also something of an expert at photowalks after having organized ones in Sydney, San Francisco, Tokyo, Beijing, Singapore, Hong Kong and Boston. *When:* Sunday April 14th, 2013 *Time:* 2PM *Where:*  Marina Green.  We will meet on the corner of Scott and Marina Boulevard.  We will shoot in and around Marina Green or wherever the road takes us.   After we lose light we will find a place to grab a bite and a few drinks. *Gear:* Pack whatever you are comfortable shooting with.  Remember, the more gear you carry the less photographs you actually take. We will be walking so don’t pack too heavy. *Who:* Photowalks are fun for everyone, and for all skill levels. From camera phones to  professional systems. It's all about the fun and about exploring and sharing with people with similar interests, so join us! Jeff Smith61,994Welcome to The Selfy Sunday Project for *December 2/12* _PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS EVENT IS NOT FOR THIS SUNDAY, NOV. 25/12._ Theme: *Bond, James Bond!* I want to see Selfy's that are inspired by *007* and the James Bond films. Lots exotic locations, action packed chases as well as numerous villains and sexy leading ladies to offer inspiration here. Or just stick to a more general "SPY" or cloak and dagger noire theme. Either way it should be fun. _Props may come in handy here!_ ________________________________ The Halloween SSP was the scariest, most ghoulish, terrifying Selfy Sunday ever. The submissions were amazing. Well done everyone. As always I want to thank +LaDonna Pride    for all of her hard work and she will be helping along the way as our co-host.  Thanks everyone we are all looking forward to some great Selfies. Doug Kaye64,235I'm still trying to catch this elusive gem. Moonrise is 7:52pm. Sunset is 8:18pm. From Hawk Hill the moon will rise behind the GG bridge and downtown San Francisco. We can't predict the fog. It's always a longshot in August. I'll get there about 7:45 after recording @110414918019803275342, so this will be a leaderless event unless someone (@102691005290181713701?) steps up. If it looks bad from Hawk Hill, we usually try Fort Baker (behind the big rock) just too see what we can get. The Park Service will probably close the gate above the roundabout by 8:30, so it's best to park below the roundabout and walk up as far as you need to get the best shot.Full Moon at the Golden Gate Bridge2012-08-02 04:30:0014

Sony a7RmkII Review -- All About the Gear

The Sony a7R mk II is already being heralded by many as Camera of the Year. While most camera “sequels” add a new feature or two, Sony has put their best-of-everything technologies into the successor to the a7R. Is it the ultimate do-anything camera?

At 42MP it’s competing with the new Canon 5DS for high-resolution. But the Sony a7R mk II also has great autofocus, dynamic range, in-body image stabilization and low noise. Gordon and I consider if it’s their new favorite of all cameras. Or not!

Leica Q -- All About the Gear

The Leica Q is the first of what could become an entirely new product line for the German manufacturer. It includes a non-interchangeable 28mm f/1.7 Summilux autofocus (!) lens coupled with a gorgeous full-frame sensor. At US$4,250, the Leica Q is hardly a camera for everyone, but that’s less than half what you’d spend for a digital Leica M plus a similar lens.

Frederick and I discuss the controversial lens/sensor combination: Purists are outraged that Leica is using the Summilux brand on a lens that requires processing the image, even for RAW files. I say, “Why not? The results are spectacular.”

For me, it’s a great street-photographer’s camera. (Full disclosure: I'm an unabashed fanboy and owns a Leica Q.) The controls and handling are terrific. I even use it in full-automatic mode, overriding aperture, shutter speed, focus and I... more »

Leica Q -- All About the Gear

The Leica Q is the first of what could become an entirely new product line for the German manufacturer.

I even use it in full-automatic mode, overriding aperture, shutter speed, focus and ISO only when he needs to. And the EVF may be the best and brightest I've ever seen.

Is the Leica Q perfect? Certainly not. And at that price one has to consider alternatives such as the almost-as-good Fujifilm X100T and Sony’s RX1R. But if street photography is your thing and you can swing the $$, the Leica Q may be for you.___

Local Girl

Pretty much straight-out-of-camera from the new Sony RX100 mk IV, which I'm reviewing for #AllAboutTheGear . Gorgeous natural light in San Francisco's Ferry Building. No color correction. (I previously tagged this as coming from the Leica Q. I was shooting with both cameras yesterday and got confused!)
