I just got a call from #GoDaddy. The rep said he noticed that I'd transferred my 60+ domains away, and wanted to know if I'd tell them why. I got to tell them that it was because of their #SOPA support, and that I couldn't in good conscience give my money to a tech company that would support legislation like that. I told him I was aware that they had reversed their position, but that their explicit support of it in the first place had cost them my confidence in them, as it is at the best viciously ignorant, and at worst, malicious. The rep was quite sincere in his apology to me, asked if there was anything they could do to win me back. He had a "We support IP protections, and now realize that support of SOPA is too broad" song-and-dance routine that probably came in from a PR memo today. I told him "no thanks", and that was that. A few days ago I wrote a post trying to correct a lot of the inaccurate statements I have seen repeatedly mentioned about how graphics on Android works. This resulted in a lot of nice discussion, but unfortunately has also lead some people to come up with new, novel, and often technically inaccurate complaints about how Android works.
These new topics have been more about some fundamental design decisions in Android, and why they are wrong. I’d like to help people better understand (and judge) these discussions by giving some real background on why Android’s UI was designed the way it is and how it actually works.

Yesterday +Dianne Hackborn posted to Google+ an article that dismissed the common accusation that Android is laggy because UI rendering wasn’t hardware accelerated until Honeycomb:

So I got a iphone4s nice device for what i do at work (ios development atm) but unfortunately Siri does not like my accent too much. Setting appointments work well same with reminders but smsing people is trouble also it has issues with non English names. Tried using it while running to work and results are hilarious.

I was warmly surprised to see how many people responded to my Google+ post about Dennis Ritchie's untimely passing. His influence on the technical community was vast, and it's gratifying to see it recognized. When Steve Jobs died there was a wide lament - and well-deserved it was - but it's worth noting that the resurgence of Apple depended a great deal on Dennis's work with C and Unix.
The C programming language is quite old now, but still active and still very much in use. The Unix and Linux (and Mac OS X and I think even Windows) kernels are all C programs. The web browsers and major web servers are all in C or C++, and almost all of the rest of the Internet ecosystem is in C or a C-derived language (C++, Java), or a language whose implementation is in C or a C-derived language (Python, Ruby, etc.). Route 11 Daiba Line, Koto Ward: Thank you for putting me in your circle. I'm feeling great that I've had so many people now, but I'm feeling a little odd because I'm topping some famous Japanese IT celebrities. Anyway, I have added a new photo to my favorite "Expressways" album. This is the last night expressway shot before the 3/11 earthquake hit Japan. I went onto the bank under construction at midnight to shoot this. I'm not sure if you can reach there now. The second Rainbow Bridge shot was taken at the same spot.
