"Why so many, Robin? … are you really as crazy as you seem?!!" –– yes ... I am ... read on ...

I had a vision for this shot and 49 shots in total (all here in this one image) is what it took to realize the final result relative to the limitations of the equipment I have. I shoot with a small camera and, because of its small sensor, I get a lot of ugly noise in my images. To combat noise, I shoot multiple shots of the same frame and exposure and stack them in layers which reduces the noise pattern while retaining image sharpness––7 per seems to be my magic number for success with noise reduction. 

"But that should make this shot made up of only 7 images, right?"

OK, I'm offering up a little re-edit to try to the scary upload thing here please don't delete my album, please don't delete my album –– so far, I see no option that it is going to the album I have selected to upload to more scary stuff and I am wondering what kind of workaround I'm going to have to employ to put it in the album I want … let's see ...

I've sent feedback on this, but I actually want help, if anyone knows the actual answer.

I am following the instructions on the "Highlights" Google+ help page here: https://support.google.com/plus/answer/3125309?p=photos_highlights&rd=1 .

I clicked on "Highlights" on an album page. There, under "Remove photos from the Highlights" text, it says to "Hide from highlights from the  dropdown menu next to Share." I've selected the photos I want to hide from highlights on the page I am working on, but no dropdown, nor the option "hide from highlights" appears, nor is available at any time, anywhere near "Share".

"Hide from highlights" is not available as an option in the regular dropdown menu on the upper right either.

I'm still absorbing the new changes here.
One thing to note, if you are a photographer and you've done all the "enhancing" yourself and don't want someone else deciding what your images should look like: Auto Enhance and Auto Awesome are checked ON by default. If you don't want that, go to your Settings from the dropdown at the upper left (Settings option is at the bottom) and scroll down to uncheck them.

I am currently trying to find out how to post an image to one of my albums ... reading the stream last night, I saw some folks having difficulties getting their image to post to a specific album properly and in some cases having many images auto-delete ... eek!

If you are having any difficulties, remember there is a "Send Feedback" option (from the same dropdown menu on the upper left.) I've never had a social network... more »

A Mother's Love

I'd meant to share this for #Caturday  --and my apologies to everyone for being absent for a while, if I've missed a notification or message from you––a "cold" Thursday morning turned into full-blown bronchitis and it's been nothing but fluids and sleep for me the last few days.

Is That Photo Real?

That's a question someone left in the comments of one of my images. I haven't answered yet. I couldn't think of the "short version". 

Let's leave off with the pithy comeback that first danced across my mind, "Do you mean, as opposed to a figment of your imagination?"

Nah … let's not go there. 

How about, "Do you mean, did I process it myself on my own computer, as opposed to letting the computer in the camera process it?" Since that's what we are talking about here. Because, you know, what comes straight out of a camera isn't any more "real" than what an artist envisions for a capture, after the fact.

Truth is tendency. Reality is relative.

"Our actions create our life… Agree? Our thoughts create our actions…. Agree? Our thoughts are communicated to us in the form of language…. Agree? So…how can we live our largest, most expressive and most loving life if we are using vocabulary that makes us smaller, weaker and discouraged.

Do you know anybody, maybe even yourself, who loves to use phrases like: “This only happens to me”, “Life’s a b*tch“, “I caaaaaaaaan’t!”, “Never!”, “I just can’t win”, “I’m damned if I do and damned if I don’t”.

The biggest problem with these phrases is not that they are negative or self centered, it’s that they stop you from taking action. Phrases like this paralyze us and fool us into thinking that we have no power and no choice. Which is nonsense.

What if our words always made us and who ever we are talking to feel inspired, empowered andre-energized?"

I started photography in 2011. It was about a few months after I got my DSLR in the middle of 2010. In the first months of 2011, I used to use the DSLR as a Point and Shoot. Stay in Auto mode and fire away. While I liked what I saw, it was never quite what I wished to do. Somewhere in the middle of 2011, I pushed myself to learn photography properly, and got myself an account on Flickr and started posting images. I came across so many Pros there and I was floored by their images.

I finally took the time to work on my cover montage for here and my website. 

I uploaded it here at a large resolution, in case any of you have too much time on your hands, a penchant for wandering through junk shops … ;o7 … and are curious about the details.

I'm having the dickens of a time trying to get my robingriggswood.com homepage to display my galleries on a second page instead and all the tutorials out there are so outdated, their suggestions don't work. It's a SmugMug site, so if anyone out there knows about SmugMug and getting the code to work in the way I want, you'll have my eternal gratitude for any help you can offer … :o)

As an adjunct to my "stolen work" post yesterday (http://goo.gl/GaznB) … I offer some more thoughts on the subject.

I like to push the creative envelope with my images, just to see what is possible. It doesn't matter, I can always shoot more or process again.

Too many artists fall in love with their work, their "children", and can't move past the idea to just do MORE. 

These "children", like real children, need to be let go of eventually. Then the new create can come in, which has the potential to become something much greater.

Wallpaper, WALLPAPER!

The other day, I found one of my paintings (http://goo.gl/3STnp) strewn around the Web on "free wallpaper" sites. They had gotten it off "CGSociety" (notorious for having works stolen from), cropped my signature off the bottom and ran it through a pixel bending program, stripping my copyright and generally uglifying it. Some even had the audacity to plop their copyright logo over mine.

Not that this is anything new.

What did I do?

I was reminded on something a girlfriend, one of the great teachers in my own life, said to me one day, "When you make something, give it away … then you'll just have to make more."

When you start to think of the works that you do as too important or significant you start to lose objectivity––the one thing you need for honing skills.
