With latest trends in healthy eating leaning towards growing your own produce, mushrooms are on the top of the list of food items to rather buy from a store. Besides being an expensive and technically challenging product to farm, there are also many species of mushrooms that are toxic, and identifying these is no simple task.

We all have our favorite can’t-do-without kitchen appliances or those we favor above others. For me, it is a kettle – I cannot be without tea, and it just doesn't taste the same if the water is boiled any other way.

For me, the fine line between vegetarianism and veganism is etched in cheese. Growing up, my love for cheese was limited to Sweet milk Cheddar and Gouda, slowly extending to Mozzarella when I acquired a love for pizza, but still not quite to Feta until much later. Only in my adult years have I ventured ankle deep into the vast expanse of cheese varieties.

In today’s rushed lifestyles of food on the go, the five a day recommendation for fruits and vegetables isn't always a standard for many. With children it can also be a little trickier. Starting the day with a freshly made smoothie is one way to bump up your fruit count for the day.

Tomato sauce, eggs, avocados, oats, milk and cucumber – sounds like the beginning of a shopping list. Rather it is a flashback from a twenty-something girls’ pamper evening, where the ingredients never quite made it onto plates, but instead were lathered into hair and smoothed across faces in an attempt at a D.I.Y. makeover – au naturel.

In an era where everything seems to have sped up and life is a constant rush, many of us turn to convenience foods to save time, but where we may be saving a few minutes now, we need to be careful we aren't robbing ourselves of years of health later on by the food choices we make.

With the Cape Argus Pick ‘n Pay Cycle Tour just around the corner on 10th of March 2013 we take a look at the preparation that goes into being ready to cross the finish line. When we think of preparing for a cycling event of this magnitude, we conjure images of furious peddling with hours on the road and rippling muscles. Many people have asked me why they do not receive what they pray for and this morning I have read the following scriptures.
1 John 3:22 - "And whatever we ask, we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing to Him."
The word commandments in the first verse is plural and not singular. It refers to many commandments and we need to keep all of them.
1 John 3:23 - "And this is His commandment, that we should believe in the Name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another as He has commanded us."
The word commandment in the second verse is singular and refers one of many commandments.
---
So based on the first and second verse we see the first three commandments:
1) Believe in Jesus Christ.
2) Love your neighbors.
3) Do things that are pleasing to God.

Today while walking home from work, I started pondering on the following thoughts...
"What is it that condemns the heart of man?"
If you do something and afterwards feel condemnation, then there is something that is holding you back from the full potential God has called you to. It's usually in the form of 'hidden sins' or unforgiveness. The moment you deal with it, you will no longer have that feeling of guilt and condemnation. It will become like shadows in your life vanishing away bit by bit.
Romans 8:1.
You are no longer under condemnation because of what Jesus Christ did for you. He paid the eternal price for you to be free but it's you that is holding yourself back. I want to encourage you to be the best you can be because you were uniquely and wonderfully made.
God, through His Holy Spirit gives us the power to overcome sin... more »
