Seems that the Google Maps preview is restricted to Lite mode.  That's alright.  It'll be really cool when it's full WebGL.

... I figured out what's wrong with +Chromitude and why it's been bugging users... Google's API isn't returning a refresh token anymore!  Without being able to refresh the token, Chromitude has to prompt users to login again once the token expires!  For people with Multiple Accounts logged in, this becomes a very heavy burden!

I don't understand why the Google Hangouts app wants my phone number?  I assume this means it'll eventually replace SMS but it seems a bit early on for it to be requesting it since it doesn't do that yet?

The "Tutorial: OAuth" Chrome Extension Tutorial DESPERATELY needs to be updated.  For one, it's missing the onload.js that's required for v2 of the Chrome extension Manifest.

For Two, I managed to figure out what that needs and now the extension is getting to a "Scope requires OAuth2 approval screen" error and I don't know what to do.

My two-week review of Google Glass: it all depends on the price

This week I gave five speeches while wearing it.
I passed through airports four times (two more in a couple of hours).
I let hundreds of people try my Google Glass.
I have barely taken it off since getting it other than to sleep.

Here's my review after having Google Glass for two weeks:

1. I will never live a day of my life from now on without it (or a competitor). It's that significant. 
2. The success of this totally depends on price. Each audience I asked at the end of my presentations "who would buy this?" As the price got down to $200 literally every hand went up. At $500 a few hands went up. This was consistent, whether talking with students, or more mainstream, older audiences.

For those of you unaware, I am an officer of Japanese Club at my local University (Bowling Green State) and am also a member of the Hayabusa Taiko Ensemble at that university.

This is Hayabusa and Kaze no Dai'ichi Performing at Ohanami 2013.

If you've never heard Taiko (Wadaiko) before, you're in for a treat.  It is my favorite type of ensemble and I absolutely love Wadaiko music.

Gmail 5 for Android Concept

I've been imagining what Gmail for Android could look like in a post-Google Now world. After seeing the Gmail for iOS design, I was inspired to create a concept that adopts the best of both apps.

The basic premise of this redesign is new navigation, and more focus on people and content. I've been working on this in tiny bursts for a while, and wanted to get more screens done, but at this rate, the actual app will come out first.

I hope to, at least, get more done to show how the cards would work in the Conversation view. We'll see...

Note: These are just conceptual images of a theoretical version of Gmail. They were created in Photoshop. Google had nothing to do with this concept, and you shouldn't expect Gmail to ever look this way. :-)

I've woken up to the sad sad news that Google's beloved RSS #reader has been given it's marching orders and to exit the Google building. I am finding that I'm not the only person crushed by this devastating news, it took me ages to find a suitable replacement for Netvibes. The seven-year-old site is being killed off due to "declining usage", Google announced on its blog this morning.

People are taking to Twitter to mourn the death and possibly drum up some support to Save Google Reader! I'll join this wagon - #savegooglereader  

RIP Google Reader. You will be sadly missed. #googlereader
